Oxford Exchange Ratings and Reviews
Always love coming to Oxford Exchange, but especially when I can bring out-of-town friends with me. They were so impressed by the food and coffee/tea selections and have already asked to stop in next time they're in town. Our table of 5 was perfectly content with good company, caffeinated beverages, and delicious food.
I set a reservation for 12:30 this past Saturday. I knew it would be very busy, but it was the perfect timing to have a date with my girlfriend.
When I walked up to the desk, 15 minutes early, the receptionist told us they would come get us when the table was ready. While perusing the shop full of quality coffee table books, candles and various items the receptionist came up to us to show us to our table. We were showed to a table at which I hadn't previously sat. Usually, we sit in the well lit atrium by the fountains. This time, the table was set up between two large double doors. She got to face the indoor restaurant while I faced the well lit section. It was nice to have such a change in our experience, and the change in atmosphere wasn't at all off-putting.
The place was completely packed (keep in mind the time and day we went). Even with every seat filled and all staff busy, our service was prompt and professional. The waitress was knowledgeable on the coffees, teas and food. She took our order, put out our appetizer (a smoked salmon with thinly sliced, long pieces of toast and an interesting aioli), followed towards the end of our appetizer by the main course. My girlfriend had the club sandwich (which was so good it had her rolling her eyes and making happy noises), and I had the omelette (which had well balanced ingredients, and a version of home fries I'd never tried. Much more like chips.)
I recommend this place for anybody looking for an upscale breakfast or lunch date. It's affordable, with a fantastic atmosphere and an attentive staff. It's even finished off with the check displayed in a vintage book. Mine was one written by Betty White in the early 1980's.
What a treat!
We were visiting Tampa for a wedding and chose Oxford Exchange based on good reviews and its proximity to the Plant Museum which we wanted to explore. It's much more than just a restaurant, with the retail shop, tea counter etc. However, the concept works since the components are well integrated and curated.
Lunch itself was delicious, service was warm and friendly, and the atrium room bright and pleasant even on a cloudy gray day. Both the Chicken Paillard salad I ordered and the Fish Tacos my husband chose were very tasty and came with yummy sweet potato fries. Of the two entrees, the fish tacos were the stand-outs.
They claimed to lose my reservation. I had a note in there to request the sunny side of the restaurant, so they “lost” that too, trying to seat us directly behind the host stand. Days later I get an email from OpenTable saying I missed my reservation. SO THEY DID GET IT.
The breakfast sandwich was essentially a grilled cheese with egg on white bread, the granola is a plain bowl of granola with no milk... overall, not too exciting. Server was good, but I was so put off at the host.
Elevage at the Epicurian does an amazing brunch at the same price point... that’s where I’ll be.
PARKING WAS A DISASTER. People trying to take $10 to park to eat at a restaurant? Not complimentary, No valet. Come on. Ridiculous. It added massive unnecessary stress. The food is great and the place is nice BUT IT'S NOT WORTH THE STRESS OF DEALING WITH PARKING.
This time was the fastest the food has ever arrived! And it was very busy- the restaurant was full. Whatever change they made, it definitely is a positive improvement. I always have a wonderful time at Oxford. The staff is nice and professional, the food is always good. I love coming here. I've been coming here for about 5 years now.
I have been to Oxford Exchange many times. Always enjoyed the food, tea and vibe. But today was different. We went for brunch today. We ordered Fried Avocado Wedges for the table $12. There was one left and I went to try it and noticed something coming out of the fried part. I pulled at it with my fork and it was a LONG strand of hair! It was wrapped around and into the avocado slice. Disgusting. So bad I won't even post a picture. I showed the waited and he immediately took it away and said he would send over the manager. No manager ever came over and the waiter said they were making us another order. Needless to say we didn't want another order-just wanted to see the manager. When he finally did come to us he wasn't at all apologetic. He was smiling as if he thought it was funny!!! He didn't offer to comp us any of our meal. I was totally disappointed with the managements attitude toward this total lack of personal hygiene in the kitchen. I have to believe it happens more that I would imagine and he wasn't phased. Needless to say-I would not recommend Oxford Exchange or will I visit again!
I had Sunday Brunch at Oxford Exchange this past weekend with a few friends. The service and food were excellent. I had the Grilled Steak Salad with contained romaine, bacon, Gorgonzola, crispy potatoes, pickled red onions, red wine vinaigrette, not a fan of pickled onions, but the rest of the salad was fantastic, the portion was pretty big so you'll have enough left for a small meal the next day. Other food honorable mentions are The Brunch Flatbread (crispy prosciutto, 2 eggs, caramelized onions, white cheddar, roasted grape tomato, arugula) YUMMY. The location has a really cool vibe and the restaurant area is really pretty, with an indoor fountain, be sure to check out the bookstore and get some loose leaf tea from TeBella Tea Company or grab one of the many tea drink options they have, I promise you won't be disappointed.
This is my new favorite place to eat in Tampa. My friend and I have been going before shows at the Straz. It is helpful that we can make reservations. We are usually seated right away or within 15 minutes of reservation. Steven ,the host is charming and very fashionable in his colorful jackets. He always looks great.
We have had good service each time but have been requesting Nate. He makes excellent suggestions and is pleasant and attentive in his service.
Favorite foods include the Flatbreads,Brussel sprouts, fried avocado and simple breakfast sandwich.
We will be dining here in a regular basis.
I’ve eaten here a few times and love it! I do recommend making a reservation as it’s always busy. This place is very unique and the closest you can get to the charms of London while staying in Tampa. Definitely a geek’s paradise (a refined geek) and wonderful place to read and sip coffee or unique teas. Great for bookies and brunch!
