About Ox & Fin
True to its name, Ox & Fin is both a seafood and steak restaurant. It is open for lunch and dinner and offers many seating options from high tables and bar stools, to curved benches for large parties. Along with its popular dishes like scallops and filet mignon, Ox & Fin often features special dishes like braised rabbit and corned beef on Sundays.

The menu selection was awesome; however, our server or cook did not prepare some items as ordered (ribeye was rare vs med. rare and kids hamburger was chared and they forgot to add cheese to the cheese burger). When reservation was placed I indicated this was a special birthday celebration which they did not acknowledge or prepare for. Bread, salads and beverage selections were great.
Ox & Fin has a stable menu so you can be sure of what is available from visit to visit. Food is good and served in an appealing manner. Service is good with attentive servers. When the Eugene weather is warm and dry, outdoor dining is a pleasant change among the tall oak trees.
we made a reservation and got a table--right by the entrance, therefore not EVEN seeing the whole restaurant. I still don't know what the rest of it looks like. The service was excellent, at least 4 different servers and hostesses came to our table at various times, and that was nice. The prices were a bit pretentious, so we probably cannot afford to go back. I am sure that there are plenty of people in Eugene who can afford an $82 dinner--no dessert...but we simply cannot. The food was pretty good, but I can make a good pork chop too..and not charge $28 for it...sigh...anyway...it was a good experience, but one we cannot afford to do twice.
It was nice and the food was pretty good. There were 4 of us....my wife, two daughters and myself. Of all the meals mine was probably the most discouraging. I ordered the rib eye steak and horseradish mash potatoes. I prefer a medium steak and it was closer to medium well. The potatoes would have been better if they were garlic mash.
We liked the dinner more than the couple we brought who felt it was overpriced. We went on Valentine's day and the menu was somewhat limited. We still enjoyed the entrees which have become familiar as we have continued to frequent the restaurant over the years. They do change regularly, but their overall quality has remained higher than that of most restaurants in Eugene.
We've eaten here twice now and this time the service was not great. Seemed like our waitress forgot about us until it was time to bring the bill. Food was pretty good but the filet was rare despite asking for medium ( we'd been warned by our previous waitress to order more done than we normally order).
This is the first time we have eaten here. It was a special occasion and we were headed for the Hult Center for a show afterward. The service was very good, the server both friendly and responsive. The food was extremely good. It wa a great evening - food and wine together with friends - can't beat that combination!
One of the nice things about OX & FIN is that the menu is more or less fixed. They do offer some specials, but the basic menu remains stable so you know what you will be offered when you dine there. Some adjustments to the basic menu are made but don't take away from what you are expecting. Food is good with a modest set of options. Service is friendly and attentive. In warm weather, the outdoor patio dining is very pleasant.
Very nice place and very friendly. The ribeye was very small lacked favor. The mashed potatoes were luke warm along with the steak. I asked for medium rare but hard to get it due to being so thin. It has a great atmosphere but for the cost o would have rather had Ruth Chris. Sorry for the poor review. The staff and our server were great just over priced for what you get.
We've had mixed results with this place in the past, but this last visit was nearly perfect. The only thing I thought they could have done better were the croquettes. They were a bit doughy, and not that flaovorful. BUT, the calamari may have been the best I've ever tasted, our server was incredible, and the burger rivaled Marche which I believe has the best burger in the PCNW. The soup was excellent, and the drinks were perfect. I would like to see more variety in their menu I guess would be one thing.
We were seated at 8:40pm on Friday night and it took MORE THAN AN HOUR to get our food. Our server was pleasant, but the kitchen was way too slow. The manager was indifferent and didn't seem to care at all when we expressed how unacceptable the timing was. She offered to comp our desserts, but it was SO late by then, that we declined dessert. She made no offer to compensate us in any other way (comp one entree, for example). We left tired, frustrated and disappointed. Oh, and by 8:40pm, they had already run out of mash potatoes! Very puzzling.
The burger was given to me wrong and my boyfriends pasta was undercooked. The waitress also spilled a fork on his jeans and didn't apologize or anything. My burger was supposed to be a cheeseburger but instead I got a bacon burger with pepperjack cheese...?
Drinks were ok.
Once again we had a good dinner. The choice remains narrow for non meat eaters, even those who eat fish. The mozzarella rigatoni had a good tomato sauce and was plentiful. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The octopus hors d'oeuvre had been good in all its permutations over the years.
I booked a party of (3) to celebrate my Mom's 73rd birthday and the Ox and Fin didn't disappoint!
My father said the beef pasta was some of the best he had ever had...I loved my salmon and Mom got 3 desserts and a warm birthday wish from the manager.
I've been going here since they opened as finding "big city" quality restaurants are few and far between in Eugene.
On our first visit to Ox & Fin, we found some of the dishes to be very good; i.e., the pear appetizer dish, and the bread. The appetizer tacos were not so good, and my caesar salad was okay but bland with very little dressing. My entree of grilled salmon with a side dish of linguini with mushrooms in a cream sauce was very good. My husband sausage and rigatoni was not very good. The pasta was tough and under cooked. The sauce was bland and one note. We found the service to be very good. The decor was modern and comfortable. However, our table was noisy because of the children outside playing and yelling. The wine I had was very good. My husband also enjoyed his beer. We would probably go back to have an appetizer and wine.
A couple friend of ours, my wife and I visited Ox & Fin.
Arrived at our reserved time and the host had our table ready and he came by our table several times to ask if there was anything he needed.
Then Rebecca was amazing, describing the menu, very friendly and pleasant in conversation, we all ordered different plates and food and service was outstanding!!
It was our 58th Anniversary, so used Open Table to make reservations and let them know it would be a special night and it was. We were made to feel special the moment we walked in till we left. We both had steak that was done perfect. Floor manager constantly checked on us and the waitress made us feel at home. We were not rushed, but courses were spaced perfectly. Nice free dessert with 58th written on it. Our first time at Ox and Fin, but won't be the last.
We let them know it was our 39th anniversary when we made out reservation. They sat us in a U-shaped booth that felt very private. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Everything we ordered was delicious. My first bite of their braised lamb exploded with flavor and my eyes got big. Mmm-mm. Our deserts were on the house. We could not have asked for a better celebration.
Nice restaurant in busy mall, casual yet elegant dining. My wife and I have eaten there many times, even before it became the Ox and Fin. Since our last visit, menu has been revamped and pared down, still offering a variety of choices to select for your meal. Food as good, prepared well, and ample portion sizes. Though not quite to the standards of previous visits, hopefully just an off day in the kitchen. Nice place for lunch, will try again soon.
Simply one of the most, if not the most Extremely disappointing Dinning experience!! Establishment just extremely Pretentious without even a remote basis. Despite the excellence of Leslie our waiter the extremely dissapointing experience is not one we would duplicate...We just will not return.
Was expecting more of a gourmet food experience but was letdown with French fries with the hanger stake and the very small portion of octopus appetizer. The writing was on the wall when my party of 4 was wondering why a cheese burger was also on the dinner menu. My 15 yr. old and I took my husband out for Father's day. And, like my two prior experiences, everything was perfect.
Each dish was delicious and the desserts were divine. Servers were attentive, friendly and prompt.
The next time I want to take guests out for a wonderful dinner, Ox and Tail will be first on my list.
I did not intend to have a burger and beer for dinner, but for $10 (vs. $16.50 regularly) on a Monday night, the bargain hunter in me overcame the steak hunter. I ordered the burger medium, it came out medium well to well done. The bun was no doubt great before it got cooked, but was served so crisp that it fell apart while eating the burger. I enjoyed the super-thin pickles and pickled onions on the burger. The rest of the plate had a mountain of fries. The top fries were fresh, hot and tasty, but below the veneer was a pile of losers from the bottom of the fry basket. I didn't eat those cold stubs.
The restaurant was not especially full, nor busy, but I did hear the table next to me complain that they waited ½ hour for their entrees to appear. They said the dinners were tasty, but they were not happy waiting so long and a staff member suggested 'the cook is new'. Whatever.
Don't know that I'd return and spend full price on menu based upon my first-time visit
There are few 'upper end' restaurants in Eugene to choose from, but the Ox & Fin is at the top of the list. They have a very nice menu and beverage selection. My wife and I have never been disappointed in the quality or presentation of the entrees. The noise level is normally quiet enough so a normal conversation level may be used. Great service.
We very much enjoyed our special occasion meal. Our waiter was attentive, our food was excellent, both the squid ink seafood pasta and the other pasta we ordered. There are limited but sufficient seafood options. The wine, a Columbia Valley cab was wonderful and the markup modest. Dessert and coffee were also quite good.
Ambiance & food was good. Restaurant was not very busy and service was slow. Also, it took a long time for food to arrive. Finally, as a trendy place, the serving portions were small. It was fine for most of us, however, when your feeding starving college students it may not be enough. It's not a good feeling when you get done with a nice dinner, and you hear "I'm still hungry..."
