About Over The Moon Cafe
We are a small 40-seat, family, scratch kitchen boutique-style restaurant and it is our desire to bring you a warm and welcoming dining experience. I strive to keep our menus fresh and updated for every season, while rotating customer favorites. We source local products as much as possible, and it is my belief that real food is the best food and I cook what I love to eat.
Dinner features various entrees , starters, salads and desserts. There is a heavy emphasis on both Italian and French fare, along with my love of comfort food. I do my best to provide wines that are of good quality, are affordable and approachable.

Over The Moon Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Took my wife here for our anniversary. The food he was excellent! We had the croutes des fromages, beet salad, duck breast and prawn pasta dishes. Really wanted to get a dessert but we were both stuffed by the time we finished dinner. While the wine and beer selection is respectable, there's no hard liquor here but the food more than makes up for it. We will definitely be back in the future.
Service and food were both great for our friend catch up lunch. My friend loves Monte Cristo's and you rarely see them on the menu at other restaurants. So pleased to have that here. Wine was great, server very attentive. Love the ambiance as well. Will be back.
Over the Moon is one of my favorites--definitely top 3. I've been there twice in the past seven days and would go again today if I had time. There are so many wonderful choices that ordering a meal is always interesting. I am allergic to wheat and never have a problem finding many options that work for me.
We wife and I took our daughter and son in law out for my daughter’s birthday. It was a great experience. The menu is diverse and creative. Two of has the Dick , which was excellent as was the beef ragu bowl. The crab bisque soup was exquisite. This was our first time but we will go back.
We were looking for a romantic evening to share a nice dinner and a bottle of wine. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed the restaurant so much, we will most definitely be back. The service was incredibly friendly, the ambiance was fun and romantic, and the food was fantastic. The pricing, while not necessarily inexpensive, was fairly priced. The portions were generous and we found for the two of us, that sharing a steak entree was perfect with an app and wine.
We were disappointed this visit. The food was not prepared as well as previous visits. Over peppered pork chop and undercooked duck breast that also came with too much salt in the rub.
Sitting in the downstairs section should come with a 20% discount as it's ambiance and seating are vastly different then upstairs. Uncomfortable chair or hard wood bench.
Lack of choice on the sides is what it is, but the veggies and mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal.
This is one of our go-to places in downtown Tacoma—small, intimate, with every bite manifesting uncommon care in preparation. We started with the impeccable Dungeness crab cakes, pan-crisped and profoundly meaty. I went with the beet salad and my wife went with the Caesar; both were delicious (the only thing we lacked were additional anchovies on the Caesar, which is our common request). The chef's technique with duck breast (served with roasted root veggies and a perfect cherry reduction) is probably the best anywhere—medium rare breast but with a reliably crispy skin. Mmmmmm. We also had the cioppino, also a winner; if I were to tweak the cioppino at all, it would be to add a hint of fennel seed to the stew. We'll go back again and again, regardless.
Over The Moon Cafe is my favorite Tacoma restaurant! The food is excellent every time and the chef is very creative. The only negative comment I have ever made is about the location. It is located in an alley with no view whatsoever, but if you want to concentrate on your date or group you are with with no distractions, this is the perfect place. My husband and I keep coming back because the food is fabulous and the ambiance allows us to focus on each other. We have come with other couples and everyone loved what they ordered. We have tried several of the restaurants in Tacoma including those along the waterfront on Ruston Way, and Over The Moon Cafe's menu beats them all!
Great food, decent service, nice ambiance. Overall, an excellent place to eat. We celebrated our anniversary there. First time to visit, and we will certainly return. Service was a tad slow, but definitely didn't feel rushed. Perhaps they were short staffed during our visit. Regardless, A very nice experience.
One of my wife and I's first dates and still an amazing quiet little gem years later. Food is great, environment is fantastic. The little touches of the place make it the home away from home of romantic dining. Recommend to any couple on their first date to the couple celebrating their many years together.
Wasn't sure what to expect walking into the restaurant, but once inside I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was a cross between whimsical and casual elegance. The service was impeccable and very attentive without feeling rushed. The best part of the experience was the food....delicious. I would definitely recommend this hidden treasure.
We had an amazing time at over the moon. Cute and quirky and charming place - but oh my, the food was fantastic. My husband was hesitant, but had the New York, he is not a huge fan of balsamic, but he loved it. I had the duck, and it was the best that I have ever had (I grew up eating duck, so I have plenty of comparisons) but this was cooked to perfection! The veggies were also very fresh and tasty. Because our protein was so amazing, the mashpotatoes just didn't stand a chance, they faded in comparison, but weren't bad, just not over the moon amazing like the other 2/3 of the plate.
We shared the crab cakes - also amazing, and they had a very good wine selection as well.
You get what you pay for, and I was sad that we didn't have time for desert, because I am convinced that it would be fantastic as well!
We will be back and highly recommend over the moon cafe.
Remarkable! A true Tacoma institution devoted to fresh, local, and cooking it right. Very intimate dining, with the right amount of attention. Great wine list (I don't drink wine, though, this comes from my dinner mate). Note: This a wine and beer establishment, which will give you the excuse to check out a near by lounge before or after dinner.
2nd time here. We stumbled on this place 4yrs ago and dreamed of coming back to tacoma just to eat here. We are dreaming of going back because the food is just that good!! You must also check out the women's bathroom it's just fun because you don't have to do what they did but that's kind of the point of this place, they do what they do because they want to.
Nice ambiance if sitting upstairs. Food quality was very good except crab cakes tartare sauce had too much vinegar and the desert whip cream was very tart, as if no sugar was added. Not the taste one would expect. The chicken dish (noted as a staff favorite) was excellent.
We visited this restaurant prior to a theater event a few blocks away. Staff was accommodating when traffic and parking made us about 15 minutes later than our reservation. We were greeted and served by a very friendly and accommodating waitress who showed us great patience and concern in ordering with very specific dietary needs. She even knew what vegetables were Night Shade and asked us if black pepper was ok! We ordered a salmon entrée and the Ling Cod entrée and both meals were beautiful as well as tasty. The vegetables particularly were beautifully fresh and perfectly cooked. The sauce on the cod had some wonderful spices such as turmeric and the mashed potatoes were divine. If we are in the neighborhood again we would gladly return for another great meal!
