Over The Moon Cafe
Dinner features various entrees , starters, salads and desserts. There is a heavy emphasis on both Italian and French fare, along with my love of comfort food. I do my best to provide wines that are of good quality, are affordable and approachable.
Turn in to the Alley and experience a truly unique fine dining experience in an atmosphere of understated elegance. "Cafe" -- An unpretentious restaurant.
Dinner Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday, 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Dinner Friday - Saturday: 4:30pm - 10:00pm
Food and service were incredible just a little bit loud on a busy Friday night
We have always had a great meal, with great service at The Over The Moon. We had the chicken and the short ribs with pasta. Both were very, very good. The service as usual was spot on. We each had a glass of wine to accompany our meal. Our only suggested improvement is to fill the wine glass a "little" fuller. Other than that, make this place a choice for a Date Night.
The food and ambiance at Over The Moon is sublime. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. It's small and precious located in Opera Alley and an easy walk from our home. I think of it as a quiet refuge with divine entres and offerings. Lovely wine selection. I love to dine here and choose items from the menu we never have at home. The food is thoughtful and delicious, sourced as locally as possible. Highly recommend this place for all the reason above as well as its intimate setting ideal for actually having a conversation. So many of the popular restaurants are open and LOUD these days.
Great work guys!
This a great neighborhood/destination restaurant. Everything about it is spot on.
Lovely place. Service was great. Food a little salty. People have left notes about their experience, life in general, advice etc. These are kept in a box at each table. They were fun to read
I consider this a hidden gem that’s a welcome change frim the plethora of restaurant chains. Food is amazing, the restaurant has personality and charm. Prices are more than fair. If there’s ever a lull in conversation, (or even if there isn’t!) its fun to read the notes left by previous diners, stored in eclectic containers on each table.
Wonderful server and the duck is always excellent. A quiet and intimate place for a lovely evening.
Such amazing food and atmosphere ! Love wine and everything else!
Some of the best prepared seafood I’ve had coupled with very friendly, attentive (but not intrusive) service and a really cool living room-like vibe. Rotating menu and a nice wine list too. This is a great special occasion dinner spot.
Lovely and romantic place with great food and service. An awesome gluten-free, vegan, and sugar-free dessert on the menu.
My vegetarian friend found only 2 possible choices on the menu. One included white flour pasta which is not something she likes. It was underwhelming. The prices are too high. The bill was hard to swallow especially with the portions so small. I love the location, but it needs to be more diner-friendly.
We decided to try Over the Moon as a special treat for our anniversary. We had a little trouble finding it, but once we arrived the service was great and the food was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. While it is a great place for a special occasion, it is a little pricey for a frequent dining experience.
This was my second visit. I was disappointed because they hadn’t updated their online menu so was disappointed to find I couldn’t have what I wanted.—which was why I chose that restaurant. Waitress was less than attentive.
One of my favorite places in Tacoma, and anywhere! The food is amazing. The restaurant is so eclectic and fun. Service is always awesome. Would recommend to anyone near or far.
Wow, this was my first time and I was very impressed with not only the service, but quality and value of the food. It is Italian with some French influences, a lot of comfort food with a good choice of seafood options as well. All deserts are made in house. This has all the charm of a boutique restaurant. I highly recommend this gem
What a great find!! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner!
The service was phenomenal. The food less so. My steak was pretty fair (but not worth the price tag), but my husband made a mistake ordering the seafood stew on a Saturday (leftover seafood) and was sick within a few short hours, ruining the birthday event we had immediately following dinner.
Not the end of the world and of course there isn’t any way to prove that it was the fault of the seafood stew, but for a man who has been sick less than a half dozen times in his 41 years and he had no other symptoms of virus, or other culprits, it’s a good bet the seafood made him ill.
I might still recommend the restaurant for the service (with the warning to stay away from seafood) and ambiance alone but we won’t be returning since that is a pretty spendy meal that may not stay in your stomach long haha.
Danelle is an amazing, attentive server. Our dinners were out of this world, over the moon delicious. This was the perfect birthday gift date night. A big thank you to everyone.
Perfect spot for a date w/ great food and quiet enough to hear the person across the table.
Very good and fresh food with excellent service. The beet stacks are a great value for an appetizer, highly recommend. Paired well with the two different types of entrees we enjoyed.
This place is the perfect combination of everything you look for in a dining experience. If you have not been, you must go!
Just awesome! Great food wonderful table side service!
Our waitress was just the right combination of friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Food was perfectly prepared--just right for a quiet 65th birthday dinner. We had a lovely time in this historic spot. We'll definitely be back soon.
Awesome! We thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I would eat here everyday if my budget and heart could handle it. You can't go wrong eating here.
Good service and good food! They serve specific dishes no changes to what they make. Mostly seafood. Price was a little high as expected. Really cute place for a date though!
Food and service were both excellent. Highly recommended.
This was our first visit to Over The Moon Cafe, but it surely won't be our last! Some friends took my wife and I out to dinner, and they suggested the venue as one of the couple is Gluten intolerant. Lots of GF options, as well as traditional dishes. I enjoyed the best caesar salad I've EVER had! The dressing was perfect, and the addition of thin strips of prosciutto is a creative and delicious touch. My entree was the shrimp pasta; loved the many-flavored cream sauce, the shrimps were plump and tender, and the linguine was exactly al dente. Wife loved her salmon, and our friends raved about the duck breast. Fresh-baked bread was complimentary, and excellent. Their dessert menu is extensive; I broke my usual "Skip the Sweets" rule, intrigued by OTMC's take on bread pudding...and it was well worth the indulgence! Apples and ginger strips made this dish unique, and the bourbon sauce took bread pudding to a new level of awesome!
By the way, OTMC features some craft sodas, including a killer root beer, perfect for a designated driver like me!
We dined at 6pm on a Tuesday, and there was free on-street parking in front of the restaurant. Weekend diners might have to resort to a pay parking lot half a block away, but still convenient.
Over the Moon is a special place, and a place my family has gone to for years for special occasions. This time it was my daughter's 18th birthday. We took her boyfriend and her best friend since kindergarten and had a wonderful meal and a delightful time. One of many memorable evenings here.
Frank Sinatra cooing in the background, alternating with 90’s Indie rock, perfectly punctuated the “Hole-in-the-Wall” ambiance of Over the Moon.
Service was friendly; our server offering thoughtful opinions, all spot on, and attentive.
We enjoyed fresh, perfectly prepared steamer clams swimming in opulent wine-butter sauce accented with garlic, small diced pork (European bacon or pancetta?) and parsley. Really delicious.
The crab bisque almost made me weep and, caused me to consider bathing in it: perfectly seasoned broth, abundant fresh dungeness crab, and a generous “cup”-serving allowing me to share with my date.
The Duck breast entre we split, beautifully seared and lightly pink inside, melted in my mouth. The creamy, rich, decadent mashed potatoes with a side of roasted vegies and haricots were gorgeous and delicious, together with the duck made a stunning presentation of this French country-style meal.
I could live here, never to leave, eating their wonderful food til my last days. Yumm.
Food was excellent. I ate the duck and my wife had salmon. Fantastic flavors. The crunchy, tangy green beans(!) were out of sight. Service was a little slow.
We love Over The Moon! It has been our favorite go to restaurant for the last 15 years or so! Always a delight and delicious!
Excellent atmosphere and food. Glad we tried and will definitely be back
This was our first visit to Over the Moon Cafe (OtMC) after moving to the Pacific Northwest. We were pleasantly surprised with the food and service. Our salad was great and so were our main entrees (jumbo shrimp pasta and Cioppino). There was a mix up in the dessert but they made it right by not charging us for what we were given and gave us the correct dessert as a to-go item. We clearly will return as it is a place you can dress up (not many of those in Tacoma/Gig Harbor) and have a good meal.
By the way...the decor is pretty awesome!
The cioppino was outstanding, the best that I have ever eaten. The pear salad was divine. We have made the mistake of ordering the vegan delicious-sounding (long description) berry - coconut dessert in the past (it didn't fly, it was quite disappointing), so instead this time we chose the apple bread pudding. This was amazing, and definitely enough for four people. Or three very piggy people.
We were sat at a table which had a box of comments, which was at times romantic and hilarious, from previous diners. There were also two beautiful little prayer/inspirational books at the table which we enjoyed as well.
What a lovely experience!
Good place for lunch near Tacoma Muncipal building. The food and service was good.
The shrimp and linguine was superb... and Danielle continues to be the BEST! Our fave go-to place in Tacoma!
I get together with friends here, the atmosphere is eclectic, warm, cozy and original. Food is excellent and the waiter, Thor was wonderful! He makes you feel like a long lost friend... wine list is good and reasonable. Lovely place, highly recommended!
This is our favorite restaurant in Tacoma. Quirky but high-quality. Great food and friendly, efficient service. Highly recommended.
This place is great...very attentive wait staff and the food is excellent.
