About Over The Moon Cafe
We are a small 38-seat, family, scratch kitchen boutique-style restaurant and it is our desire to bring you a warm and welcoming dining experience. I strive to keep our menus fresh and updated for every season, while rotating customer favorites. We source local products as much as possible, and it is my belief that real food is the best food and I cook what I love to eat.
Dinner features various entrees , starters, salads and desserts. There is a heavy emphasis on both Italian and French fare, along with my love of comfort food. I do my best to provide wines that are of good quality, are affordable and approachable.
Turn in to the Alley and experience a truly unique fine dining experience in an atmosphere of understated elegance. "Cafe" -- An unpretentious restaurant.

Over The Moon Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Been here in the past and everything was great however, did not have a great experience on Valentine's Day, was given a table for 4 although it was just my husband and I, I asked to be reseated in the many available more personal seatings but was told would mess with other reservations whatever that meant, my entire stay most of the seatings remained empty. My braised beef pasta was watered down maybe new chef, maybe it was because of my complaint ? Idk but service was rushed and not great and my food wasn't great so won't be back anytime soon especially for a special occasion.
I just lost all my hair to chemo and have not been out since December. I am a foodie and my husband insisted he take me out for a romantic lunch on Valentine's Day. Was I happy he did! The energy is this place is amazing. Thor, our waiter, was amazing. Most of all the food was amazing. My husband scores big with me! Take a date, you'll be glad you did.
This was our first time at Over the Moon Cafe and it was phenomenal. We were celebrating an early Valentine's dinner and found it to be cozy, romantic and quaint. The food was fantastic. My fiancé said the Chicken Caccitore was possibly the best meal he's ever had. The crab cakes were also one of the best we've had. The waitress was very accommodating and attentive. We will certainly be back!
We love it when an event brings us from our home in Sammamish to Tacoma so that we can include a dinner at the Over The Moon Cafe!
The passion that the restaurant has for what they do is apparent in every aspect of the dining experience .
As a small business owner myself I really appreciate the attention to detail that is delivered on every level
We can t wait to come back again!
Lucky enough to find Over the Moon on an Internet quest to find a place to celebrate a special occasion with my wife. Without making any puns, the Over the Moon café far and away exceeded our expectations.
We do live two hours away, but we WILL find a reason to return for dinner on Saturday night so I can request that we be served/entertained by Jennifer. She is charming and I understand why she stay on he job for 10 years. Who would want to leave? :) We described what type of wine we enjoy, and Jennifer picked out a bottle that matched perfectly. She listens.
My gluten-free wife LOVED the lasagna made with zucchini so much that she refused to share more than two bites. I had the special for the evening, an amazing pork chop. But my favorite dish was the beet stack. Fabulous
From our appetizers to the homemade vanilla ice cream, this was one of the BEST restaurant dinners we have enjoyed in several years. Glad we arrived early (5pm reservation) because the place filled quickly.
BTW-- We also found the flagship store for the local coffee we were served on Sunday morning and bought three pounds to take home. Best souvenir from a wonderful evening.
We also enjoyed walking the neighborhood before we can in for dinner. The shops (and the shopkeepers)and the charm of this corner of Tacoma changed many years of poor reputation that had kept me away. My loss
Not bad, but expensive and possibly a little over-rated on here. That's my general impression.
First - they do not have a bar. It is wine and beer only. Somehow I missed that part in researching the place. I was looking forward to a martini cocktail to start the evening, but no bar. We reserved a table for 2 for my birthday celebration and indicated that in the reservation. The restaurant made no recognition or acknowledgement about the birthday whatsoever. I wasn't expecting anything in particular, but at least some recognition or mention of the occasion would have been nice. It must have slipped through unnoticed. The decor is nice, eclectic and not too crowded tables. The house music playing was a bit misguided for a small more intimate/romantic setting - we sit down and Led Zeppelin is playing - not the best music for a dinner in my opinion. Staff was very friendly. Food overall is very good, large portions - but way over-priced for the quality. Not the best value for the cost. Yes, I would eat there again but with the knowledge it's not the best value or food selection and quality for the expensive costs and no bar. It's out of the way on a quiet street in downtown Tacoma - not a lot going on in the area on a Saturday night.
This is a great restaurant, our server was best ever. But the vegan cheesecake is a disaster. Take it off menu till you learn how to do it. The toppings were great, but the main thing tasted and felt like over cooked mush that has set all day long. My daughter in law makes a great one, so do some homework on this. Overall we love OTM.
We have dined at Over The Moon for special occasions. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is cozy. However, on the last visit the service was not as good and the prices have increased. We were given a small portion of bread upon request and our water was not replenished until after the meal. I ordered a small plate because of a recent illness and the waitress was not impressed with the order. Also the small plate was well presented but overpriced. I will dine here again because of the good food but if I am disappointed again this restaurant may be off our list!
Our last visit was during a busy period and the people next to us was extremely loud to the point we could not hear each other when we tried to talk.
The only other thing was that the Salmon glaze of Bourbon was changed to a white balsamic .
Not nearly as good as the Bourbon glaze.
Absolutely darling setting in a little alley - cute, charming bistro/cafe. Warm and inviting.
Service was good, not great, but looked like one person was handling all the tables and in that case she was pretty great!!
Wines by the glass are priced very fairly and nice selection
Food: I had the small plate, Jumbo shrimp sautéed in white wine and butter sauce with lemon, shallots, Italian parsley and red pepper flakes and the Arugula and mixed greens tossed in our white balsamic, blackberry and thyme vinaigrette, with roasted butternut squash, sliced granny smith apple and dried blue berries, finished with roasted walnuts and parmesan. Both were really good. My friend had the Cesar which she really liked and the crab cakes which she was very disappointed in as she searched for the crab. She sent it back.
Prices are high for the food - entrees are pretty up there.
I thought for one small plate, a salad and a glass of wine total of $41.00 with tip was a lot.
Nonetheless I plan on going back when I can afford it!! Loved the ambiance and I thought what I ate was delicious.
If you love amazing food and value the perfect balance of ambience, impeccable service, and an aura of refinement without being pretentious, then you have to check out this little gem of an eatery. We had the crab bisque, mussel and clam linguine, duck breast and a side of lobster mac and cheese. Yes it was too much food, but it was worth every bite.
