Over The Moon Cafe
Dinner features various entrees , starters, salads and desserts. There is a heavy emphasis on both Italian and French fare, along with my love of comfort food. I do my best to provide wines that are of good quality, are affordable and approachable.
Turn in to the Alley and experience a truly unique fine dining experience in an atmosphere of understated elegance. "Cafe" -- An unpretentious restaurant.
Dinner Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday, 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Dinner Friday - Saturday: 4:30pm - 10:00pm
Danelle is an amazing, attentive server. Our dinners were out of this world, over the moon delicious. This was the perfect birthday gift date night. A big thank you to everyone.
Perfect spot for a date w/ great food and quiet enough to hear the person across the table.
Very good and fresh food with excellent service. The beet stacks are a great value for an appetizer, highly recommend. Paired well with the two different types of entrees we enjoyed.
This place is the perfect combination of everything you look for in a dining experience. If you have not been, you must go!
Just awesome! Great food wonderful table side service!
Our waitress was just the right combination of friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Food was perfectly prepared--just right for a quiet 65th birthday dinner. We had a lovely time in this historic spot. We'll definitely be back soon.
Awesome! We thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I would eat here everyday if my budget and heart could handle it. You can't go wrong eating here.
Good service and good food! They serve specific dishes no changes to what they make. Mostly seafood. Price was a little high as expected. Really cute place for a date though!
Food and service were both excellent. Highly recommended.
This was our first visit to Over The Moon Cafe, but it surely won't be our last! Some friends took my wife and I out to dinner, and they suggested the venue as one of the couple is Gluten intolerant. Lots of GF options, as well as traditional dishes. I enjoyed the best caesar salad I've EVER had! The dressing was perfect, and the addition of thin strips of prosciutto is a creative and delicious touch. My entree was the shrimp pasta; loved the many-flavored cream sauce, the shrimps were plump and tender, and the linguine was exactly al dente. Wife loved her salmon, and our friends raved about the duck breast. Fresh-baked bread was complimentary, and excellent. Their dessert menu is extensive; I broke my usual "Skip the Sweets" rule, intrigued by OTMC's take on bread pudding...and it was well worth the indulgence! Apples and ginger strips made this dish unique, and the bourbon sauce took bread pudding to a new level of awesome!
By the way, OTMC features some craft sodas, including a killer root beer, perfect for a designated driver like me!
We dined at 6pm on a Tuesday, and there was free on-street parking in front of the restaurant. Weekend diners might have to resort to a pay parking lot half a block away, but still convenient.
Over the Moon is a special place, and a place my family has gone to for years for special occasions. This time it was my daughter's 18th birthday. We took her boyfriend and her best friend since kindergarten and had a wonderful meal and a delightful time. One of many memorable evenings here.
Frank Sinatra cooing in the background, alternating with 90’s Indie rock, perfectly punctuated the “Hole-in-the-Wall” ambiance of Over the Moon.
Service was friendly; our server offering thoughtful opinions, all spot on, and attentive.
We enjoyed fresh, perfectly prepared steamer clams swimming in opulent wine-butter sauce accented with garlic, small diced pork (European bacon or pancetta?) and parsley. Really delicious.
The crab bisque almost made me weep and, caused me to consider bathing in it: perfectly seasoned broth, abundant fresh dungeness crab, and a generous “cup”-serving allowing me to share with my date.
The Duck breast entre we split, beautifully seared and lightly pink inside, melted in my mouth. The creamy, rich, decadent mashed potatoes with a side of roasted vegies and haricots were gorgeous and delicious, together with the duck made a stunning presentation of this French country-style meal.
I could live here, never to leave, eating their wonderful food til my last days. Yumm.
Food was excellent. I ate the duck and my wife had salmon. Fantastic flavors. The crunchy, tangy green beans(!) were out of sight. Service was a little slow.
We love Over The Moon! It has been our favorite go to restaurant for the last 15 years or so! Always a delight and delicious!
Excellent atmosphere and food. Glad we tried and will definitely be back
This was our first visit to Over the Moon Cafe (OtMC) after moving to the Pacific Northwest. We were pleasantly surprised with the food and service. Our salad was great and so were our main entrees (jumbo shrimp pasta and Cioppino). There was a mix up in the dessert but they made it right by not charging us for what we were given and gave us the correct dessert as a to-go item. We clearly will return as it is a place you can dress up (not many of those in Tacoma/Gig Harbor) and have a good meal.
By the way...the decor is pretty awesome!
The cioppino was outstanding, the best that I have ever eaten. The pear salad was divine. We have made the mistake of ordering the vegan delicious-sounding (long description) berry - coconut dessert in the past (it didn't fly, it was quite disappointing), so instead this time we chose the apple bread pudding. This was amazing, and definitely enough for four people. Or three very piggy people.
We were sat at a table which had a box of comments, which was at times romantic and hilarious, from previous diners. There were also two beautiful little prayer/inspirational books at the table which we enjoyed as well.
What a lovely experience!
Good place for lunch near Tacoma Muncipal building. The food and service was good.
The shrimp and linguine was superb... and Danielle continues to be the BEST! Our fave go-to place in Tacoma!
I get together with friends here, the atmosphere is eclectic, warm, cozy and original. Food is excellent and the waiter, Thor was wonderful! He makes you feel like a long lost friend... wine list is good and reasonable. Lovely place, highly recommended!
This is our favorite restaurant in Tacoma. Quirky but high-quality. Great food and friendly, efficient service. Highly recommended.
This place is great...very attentive wait staff and the food is excellent.
The food was amazing! The owner Deanna called me to reschedule my reservation as she wanted to close to give her staff a long weekend for the 4th snd it was our Anniversary. She apologized and changed our reservation and offered a free bottle of wine for the inconvenience. I appreciate the hospitality of the owner and staff and will definitely be back.
Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful, Very cordial and we enjoyed her very much.
The atmosphere was nice and the food was decent, not amazing. Maybe I’m too picky. Crab bisque was great- a few too many shells for me. My wife liked the cod and she is very picky. The crab cakes seemed over spiced or the pepper hid the other flavors.
We had a wonderful lunch celebrating a friends birthday....great food, great service & great fellowship.
Great food, interesting menu, wonderful service, quiet, intimate atmosphere.
We LOVE Over The Moon Cafe. The food is amazing. Tonight there was a little box sitting on our table and when we opened it to peek inside we found it was full of notes that previous patrons had left. It was wonderful to read through those notes and enjoy everybody's happy moments. We made sure to leave a note of our own.
Celebrated my birthday with my husband. Everything was beautiful.
Excellent experience....good food, wonderful staff.... plan on returning soon....
We met friends there because the location was good and the reviews were, too. We weren’t disappointed. Great location, service, menu and food.
Over The Moon is a hidden gem. It's in a neighborhood that is up and coming, but they've been serving excellent food in an intimate setting for a long time. This time was no exception. I look forward to more special evenings here.
Very eclectic and romantic getaway! Definitely recommend!
Great place to eat, excellent menu, superb service , treated like they appreciate our business and they do not rush us through the meal. Plenty of time to visit with those at your table.
I've never had anything that wasn't delicious when eating at Over the Moon Cafe. They specialize in seasonal, regional, organic foods and these are prepared to be nothing short of mouth-watering.
For the light eater, there are small plates. The dinner entrees offer variety and are just the right amount of food. The desserts are so good I would go out of my way for just their dessert and coffee. One of the best treats, not to be missed, is a trip to the ladies' restroom - gorgeous, over-the-top - it is practically a travel destination in and of itself. Clearly, I love the place and make certain my special guests and special days are marked to a visit to the Over the Moon Cafe. And did I mention ? It is just 3 blocks from the wonderful Grand Theatre so treat yourself to a film and remarkable food.
Four the fourth birthday in a row we headed north from Portland to Over the Moon once again, they did not disappoint. We special ordered crab bisque for lunch (one for both of us, plus a serving to go). It was (as expected/usual) delicious - lots of crab in a well seasoned bisque.
The Thursday special was a French onion grilled cheese - think French onion soup between two slices of sour dough - perfectly caramelized onions with the right amount of gruyère cheese.
Dessert was a "cheesecake" with no dairy. Picture a piece of cheesecake that is purple because it is made from coconut oil, berries and other fruits with a crust of dates and coconut with a whipped coconut milk topping. Fabulous.
Always well worth the drive north and we are encouraging anyone who asks to do the same.
Excellent place, Veggies were fantastic! New Your Steak was slightly cooked uneven but still wonderful.
Over Moon Cafe is our favorite! It's well worth the drive to get there from Seattle.
This was our second time in 2 weeks and the experience was just a wonderful. The eclectic ambiance sets the scene and the food is outstanding. Delicious, fresh and presented well. The service is beyond expectation. Jennifer went above and beyond. The owner came around to the tables and actually remembered us and even remembered that we had told her that our son had been a chef in small unique restaurants like this one. We will be back again!!
This is such a wonderful find!! Great small neighborhood place. Food was excellent!! You won’t be disappointed.
