Ouzo Bay Ratings and Reviews
We were there for my husband's birthday. While Ouzo Bay is not a restaurant we can afford on an everyday occasion, it made a celebration very special. He doesn't eat meat and neither do I so the seafood selections are wonderful. The complimentary dessert was lovely. We both had a good time. He is such a good cook that it can be challenging to take him out as he isn't often impressed but he was at Ouzo Bay. We had a lovely time.
this restaurant is not for vegetarians, even with advance notice. i indicated my food preference when i made the rez. i was dining with 3 non-vegetarians and was told by other veg friends that they could make me a vegetarian entree if i asked. what i received was so boring and unimaginative-- linguini mostly with hard barely-cooked carrots in a thin tomato sauce that had too much cinnamon. clearly my request was a nuisance and given little if no thought. then they had the gall to charge $18 for it. i can't speak for the quality of my companions' meals, but "way overpriced" came up once or twice in the conversation. we all agreed that none of us needed to dine at ouzo bay again.
Far and away the best spot in Baltimore. The high energy compliments the best fresh seafood in town. Superb wine list that enhances the menu to a tee. We will be back. Hopefully the construction will be finished soon at the outdoor seating will be an option again.
I visited Ouzo Bay on a chilly wet night and was greeted warmly by both the hostess and a terrific bowl of Maryland crab soup. I received excellent advice on both wine and portion size and restaurant favorites. The branzino was excellent; the fish was perfectly cooked sitting atop a wonderful assortment of vegetables and potato with a delicious broth. I'm glad I took my server's advice on portion size as the fish was a generous serving, but I still saved room for Galataboureko. I love this dessert, but Ouzo Bay put its own spin on it and it was the best I've ever had.
Found Ouzo Bay about 2 years ago and have become regulars because the food is absolutely outstanding. The noise level can sometimes be a little louder than you would expect for a restaurant like this but it certainly isn't too much. The service is always excellent, they give you plenty of time to enjoy your drink, browse the menu, order some apps, then serve your dinner, and order desert. They in no way rush you, are always quick to refill your water and are very attentive. The food may be a bit pricey for some but it is absolutely worth it. Have tried several of the fish dishes along with the lamb, everything has been cooked and made to perfection. For desert, the Baclava is INSANE!!! Its a must if you like Baclava even a little. They also have an extensive selection of hard liquor, wine, and cocktails. If you like Old Fashions, try the Typhon, you'll be hooked.
I'll start with the two issues and then I can only praise our experience. The acoustics are pretty poor. It is very noisy and have a nice conversation with one's date. The other is completely out of the establishment's hands. Construction... :-(
Now... The service top notch! The staff was friendly, on top of their game and clearly customer focused. It was great to see and hear from the staff that they enjoy working at/for Ouzo. The food, again, was awesome! I have Celiac Disease and if I found something that wasn't already Gluten Free, they did everything they could to modify the offering to not just fit the bill but make the offering very appetizing! Very successful! My date also praised everything as well. The wine selection is also very nice. I strongly recommend Ouzo, hands down!
My first experience at Ouzo Bay, and first of many! Fun, upscale ambiance reminding you of the beautiful Greek countryside. Loved the Greek inspired menu. There were several entrees we wanted to try and the dishes passing by to nearby tables tempted us even more. My husband is gluten-free and had no problem finding options to choose from on the menu. Highly recommend to starting out with the grilled octopus and smoked eggplant salad. Although the zucchini chips looked delicious too! Service was attentive, and we were not rushed. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and a relaxing meal. Worth every penny!
The food quality was inconsistent. The fish while delicious was still full of bones. The baklava had a soggy crust, while lower priced baklava elsewhere can maintain a crispy crust. There were plenty of waitstaff, the restaurant was not full, and yet we had to request water, our plates cleared, etc. The mezza was the best part of the meal, but the hot items were room temperature at best.Lacked the attention to detail that would have made this a great experience.
The food was good but not great. You would kind of expect more for the price.I ordered the grilled bronzino which once again, was good but not great. I've had better at other restaurants. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside. Because of the construction it was extremely loud. We were able to tune it out, but if you're looking for a quiet evening do not sit outside! The service was OK but twice we had to ask someone else for assistance. That was a little bit of a letdown. I would go back and try something different, but I think that there are other restaurants that are as good if not better in Baltimore.
We had an excellent dinner here. The food was outstanding, the service attentive. My only complaint was the noise level - we had to shout at each other, and still sometimes couldn't be heard. It contributes to a lively feel, but don't come here if you are looking for a more laid back vibe.
It was nice. A little loud and the octopus was fishy. Other than that it was a very nice and well built venue. The staff was nice and the everyone else loved their food. Heavy compliments on the lemon chicken soup, scallops and heirloom tomato salad. Thank you for a very nice evening.
The food took a little long to arrive but they gave us an appetizer to make up for it. The couple that we dined with had a bad experience at the bar while waiting for us. They sat down at the bar the women bartender did not even greet them, she just handed them menus a walked away. The couple was African American and we were wondering if the cold-shoulder given by the bartender was racial. Either way very rude!!
We went on Saturday to celebrate a birthday and we spoke to restaurant several times to confirm. The service was not good; had to ask several times about our dessert and they brought it without utensils or clearing the table. We requested leftovers be boxed and that was botched too. It took a while to get the check too. Most enjoyed their meals but frustrating to keep asking for bread; to order more drinks, etc. We felt ignored and when spending several hundred dollars you expect better service.
I took my girlfriend there for her Birthday and we met two friends. From the beginning to end - the service was top notch! The staff were VERY attentive and the manager was constantly walking the floor. I even commented to my girlfriend our water glasses never got below 3/4 full.
The atmosphere is cozy and very inviting. For not eating the Greek cuisine too much, I was impressed with the food especially the Calamari. The presentation of the entrees were spectacular and I'm surprised I didn't take pics!
They even brought out a large piece of Baklava with a single lit candle at the end to celebrate the birthday but there was no singing (which was nice) instead a simple presentation to my girlfriend with 4 complimentary shots of Ouzo for the table.
It wasn't cheap but definetly worth it for the atmosphere, service and the food!
Great Job Ouzo Bay!
My wife and I have been going to Ouzo Bay few times. We went there on Friday, September 22nd for our five year anniversary. The waiter was very respectful, quick and on top of everything. He made sure that my wife was happy with trying out different cocktails. The food is superb and we loved the service, the food, the atmosphere of the restaurant. We will plan on returning there very soon!
Probably the best seafood restaurant in Maryland! You don't find the traditional blue crab smothered in old bay here. This place is upscale and swanky, has amazing seafood dishes cook with a Greek flair. The two main apps are a little pricey but were absolutely amazing in taste and presentation and our group of 6 loved it. We all had some fresh fish, which is sold by the lbs. craft cocktails were good and the Greek wine (nice wine list) was the perfect with the seasoning of the dishes. Had to pay for valet parking but being in downtown Bmore, why take a chance walking around.
It was so noisy, it was almost unbearable. I was there because I was in Baltimore and wanted to eat with a friend who had recently moved to Baltimore. I hadn't seen her since change of a job, so I wanted to be able to talk. It was way too noisy for real conversation. And was also very 'young': super-driving techno beat music, bunch of youngish people with money and not much to say that couldn't be shouted at each other. I would NOT recommend it as a splurge for anyone over forty, and wouldn't recommend it as a splurge for anyone under forty who wanted to have a thoughtful conversation.
My husband and I in town for a get-away weekend and wanted seafood. Although the decor is very pretty, I thought the menu was fairly overpriced. Each of the whole fish selections that are cooked on a charcoal fire were way overpriced. And even if I wanted the scallops, that was more and very expensive as well. In addition, now adding all of the a la carte sides turned out to be a very expensive meal. The Oozo(sp?) for each of us at end of dinner was a nice gesture had it not been watered down. For the price of the meal, it could have at least been the real thing. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
