A warm, welcoming neighborhood restaurant. It features a broad and interesting menu and friendly, helpful yet unobtrusive service. There were four of us; both appetizers and all of our meals were terrific. As was the freshly made cannoli we shared for dessert.
I was picking my husband up at the Boston Airport at 4pm on Sat night. He suggested we go out to eat and didn't care where. I tried to pick a place that would be on the way home for us since we live in NH. I picked Out of the Blue in Somerville MA. It was a great pick. It is mostly a seafood restaurant. We had PEI mussels for an app then Scallops and Salmon for our dinner entrees. It is in a part of Somerville called Davis Square. The parking will be your only issue. I made reservations on Open Table for 5pm so we didn't really have a problem. Hope you will give it a try.
After receiving a gift card, my husband and I made a late (7:45) dinner reservation. Right from the hostess greeting I found the service to be prompt, friendly and extremely attentive. The restaurant is not very large and longer than it is wide so it’s cozy but comfortable. There is plenty to select from the menu and I found the specials quite tempting. We shared an appetizer of calamari, ate way too much fresh Italian bread (basket was refilled before it was empty) and each ordered an appetizer. The waiter was patient answering our questions and sincere in offering recommendations. My husband had the seafood platter and I had the Frutti de Mare, fra diablo style (you have choice of sauce preparation). Though completely stuffed, we saw the tiramisu pass by and split it. We will definitely add this to our local favorites as it’s just a 10 min drive from the house with decent parking options nearby.
When we arrived for our reservation, they only had a table by the door and it was quite chilly that night. As soon as another table opened up, they moved us to a more comfortable location so that we would not be chilled every time the door opened. That was very thoughtful. The food was very good and the seafood was fresh. The waiter was attentive to our needs. Overall, we had a nice experience for our first restaurant in Somerville.
Food was excellent. Cooked exactly as ordered. Wait staff was attentive and friendly without overdoing it. The fan was blowing either air that was too warm or too cool. That, along with the noise level (too noisy to have normal conversation without raising our voices), made the dining experience rather unpleasant. But the food was good enough that we will return. Maybe we'll go earlier before it's too busy or on a weekday night. We were there for a 6:00 reservation on a Saturday.
Fabulous experience from start to finish! Our shared mussels in white wine and garlic was a perfect appetizer and so was every entree on our table. Bronzino, the roasted whole fish is surrounded by perfectly roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomato w a touch of capers and perfectly prepared fresh green asparagus for a divine dish , as good as I have enjoyed anywhere! My son loved his Seafood fra diavalo , nice and spicy and my husband's monkfish was fresh and memorable as well. Their bread is just the way Italian bread should be and the wine , I had a Pinot Grigio from Italy , was served by the glass and very affordable. What professional effortless service by super attentive , knowledgeable wait staff! These guys know exactly what they are doing at Out Of The Blue!!
First time here for girls night out and a show at the Somerville Theatre. Service was fast and very friendly. We ordered the calamari and scampi for appetizers. Very tasty. For dinner, the salmon, swordfish, monk fish, halibut stew, and chicken parm was ordered. We were all extremely happy with our meals. Cooked perfectly. Very nice meal and will return.
We ate here when in Boston visiting colleges. The staff here were wonderful in spite of it being a very busy Friday evening. The drinks were great (especially the lemonade-vodka drink) as was the food. We all loved their homemade chowder and the oysters also.
The food was great. Lots of fish selections at decent prices. Some non-seafood items, too. My Arctic char was great and my husband’s seafood platter was really good also. Our waiter seemed like he had had a long day, but the man who actually served the food was delightful. Good wine and beer selection.
Calling all seafood lovers! This place is the perfect spot. The feel and ambiance is nice, warm, welcoming, casual but surrounded by a good family vibe. All of the staff are super attentive and helpful. The value of the food was great too. We got the stuffed clams, stuffed calamari, and oysters for our app (everything delicious) and then for dinner my fiance got the grilled scallops which was a very plentiful portion, and I got the weekly special Tuna dish in a horseradish red sauce. Finger licking good.
Came here for dinner on the busy Tufts parents weekend. We had not made a reservation anywhere ahead of time and were excited that Out of the Blue had a 730pm reservation. I think someone had cancelled at the last minute. We really enjoyed our dinner. The Cajun swordfish was excellent and the shrimp scampi tasted so fresh. Walking into the restaurant a wonderful aroma hit us. Very inviting.
I chose this spot for a quiet Birthdsy dinner... the food was for the most part excellent!....best halibut my husband ... very fish fussy....has had anywhere... loved it. My son's swordfish was excellent. My daughters fish with pasta was delicate and perfect. My steak and shrimp earned the four star as opposed to five star as it was somewhat tough... the veggies and shrimp were delicious tho. Note that no oil/herb dip is offered with bread... you make your own at the table if you want it... the bread is beautifully crust-crispy. My Caesar salad with anchovies and home dressing was delicious!!
Highly recommend ... lots of great items to choose from, very relaxed atmosphere. Lots of patrons in the restaurant even tho it was a Sunday evening and pouring rain!!!..., says a lot for the restaurant and food!!!
