The menu was great, the food and drinks were excellent which almost made up for the service which was a disappointment. Despite the reservation, we were seated in the doorway and were right in the line of traffic. Initially we asked for alternate seating and the hostess was really annoyed we asked, maybe she was having a bad night. (btw: be prepared to sit European style at most tables, and by that I mean most tables are very very close together)
We waited over 10 minutes for someone to come to the table, got menus and then waited another 10 minutes for the waiter to come back to take drink orders (after we asked another wait staff if we could order drinks)...so by about 25-30 minutes we had drinks and were able to order food.
Again, food and drinks were excellent...just be prepared to wait.
Always a pleasure dining at Out of the Blue!
This is a warm, cozy neighborhood restaurant. Food is always reliably good with fresh fish and seafood. Quite a few dishes have an italian flare to them with great pasta and flavorful sauces and dressings.
Great location in Somerville. Easy walk to Davis T Station and Somerville theater. Unpretentious. Seafood lovers paradise.
Best seafood! Enjoyed the food and the waiters. Nice people and great restaurant. Can't wait to go back!
Was annoyed that we would not be seated until everyone was present, especially since the place was crowded. Service was efficient and selections were well explained. Servers were not rude but certainly not overly friendly. There were few smiles. Entrees were served simultaneously so the food was hot. The food was very good and reasonably priced especially for Square. Everyone in our party was able to hear one another which can be challenging on a Saturday night. The group was satisfied and would return again.
One of my favorite restaurants in the Somerville area.
We had heard about this restaurant awhile ago but never seemed to make it over to Davis Square. Finally we went and were so happy we made it in. The food was delicious all three of us loved the meal including my 13 year old niece. The service was excellent as our waitress anticipated everything to perfection.
I can't say enough about what a great experience we had and we are looking forward to returning.
Very good Italian style seafood. I went with a group of 5 and we hit the seafood pretty hard, in total ordering the whole Branzino fish, scallaps and linguini, frute de mare and lobster fra diavola. All wonderful. Lots of seafood and pasta. The Lobster Fra Diavola was basically a Fruita De Mara but with a lobster on top. Nice meal. I could have skipped the pasta all together but I suppose that is a matter of taste. Quality of the seafood was very good.
We have dined here many times and the food is always fabulous-- best linguini and clam sauce around, and everything we've had is delicious too. Prices are reasonable, and the service and environment all relaxed and enjoyable.
Out of the Blue is terrific! We have been regular patrons there for a number of years and it NEVER fails! Great food, great service and pleasant atmosphere. Seems to be very noisy on Saturday night....but still god atmosphere.
Out of the Blue never dissapoints ! Great menu and the owners are always there helping out and making sure everything is perfect. Had really great sea scallops grilled with fresh veggies it was amazing.
Great choice for seafood. The grilled Cajun swordfish was excellent!!
Overall great experience. Our waitress was great and very friendly. Food was very good as well!
Great priced, quality seafood in Davis! Enjoyed everything we ordered. Save room for dessert and get the flan!
Amazing food amazing place amazing staff
Best food around it's relatively small so at peak hours when it's busy it can get load but manageable so you can have a conversation. I've been here a bunch of times and everything I've gotten has been perfect. I always look forward to doing back
Delicious food. Service was good. There was a large party near us that was noisy but I think on another night it would be fine. Will dine there again.
Out of the Blue was amazing! The servers were attentive and kind, and the food was very good. The shrimp scampi was perfect! Highly recommend this family owned gem!
Food was excellent and service was perfect. Staff friendly and helpful.
Just an excellent overall seafood dinner. A great value. Friendly, efficient staff. The woman who seated us, I feel was an owner or manager, was just the nicest! So glad we found this place. We're from out of town, I'd go back...I highly recommend.
Food was wonderful but service was lacking...I feel bad, as they were understaffed.
Wonderful place for seafood...great food...efficient and pleasant service...good prices
Caring attentive wait staff. Delicious lobster Fra diavolo and great tiramisu.
I would have to rate the food as average. The bread was stale. We got crab cakes for an appetizer. Very soggy. I had shrimp scampi that I was pleased with. Daughter had fried calamari plate. Seems like fryer oil needed to be changed. The food was fried dark and rubbery, not light and crunchy. Husband had baked scallops, he said were just OK. Prob won’t return.
Out of The Blue affords diners a great seafood meal without the higher prices of downtown. We have been there four times now and each time the experience gets better. Service is friendly and attentive without being intrusive. This time my wife had the grilled salmon- done just the way she likes it and I had shrimp scampi over linguine. I try something different each time but this shrimp dish will definitely get visited again. Hopefully this time I will be able to finish it. Davis Square is a nice place for a dinner and a film and Out of the Blue certainly meets the requirement for good food and a pleasant dining experience.
Great food and service
Never disappoints. Wonderful food particularly if you like seafood.
I knew this would be a good meal from previous experience. Food and service were very good. Friendly staff and nice surroundings. Would recommend.
Wonderful space and fantastic service! The bread served before the meal was fairly mediocre, but our arugula salad was very fresh and perfectly dressed. The pasta special I ordered had great flavor, but the shrimp and scallops were over cooked and a bit rubbery. My friend’s swordfish was also over cooked, but with good flavors. Overall, it’s a wonderful spot, but maybe on this particular night the cooking wasn’t at its best.
One of our favorite restaurants. Seafood is always fresh and delicious.
SO Pleased with this gem! Walked past it a million times and assumed it was expensive, but was pleasantly surprised. The food is AMAZING and they are so accommodating if you want to customize your own meal. The wine was super affordable. Our waiter was super friendly and even offered to take a photo for us. The atmosphere is casual and cozy - 10/10 would eat here again. A true North End meal in Somerville.
We go here often and love it. The food is very good and affordable, it is the kind of restaurant that isn't easily found - warm, friendly, good seafood and a loyal following.
This great neighborhood seafood restaurant is terrific. The service is excellent, a good and reasonably priced wine list, and a great menu. The fish is fresh and well prepared. The kitchen area is open so you can see the chefs at work and smell the wonderful aromas. The prices are food are reasonable and affordable. I think Out of the Blue is as good as any seafood restaurant in the Boston area. It's now on my list of "go to" favorites.
Absolutely delicious. The whole fish (Branzino) was amazing!
Nice place. Good food at good value. Pretty quiet--able to have a good conversation. Service, well, was OK--nothing great, not bad. Wine list well priced.
A warm, welcoming neighborhood restaurant. It features a broad and interesting menu and friendly, helpful yet unobtrusive service. There were four of us; both appetizers and all of our meals were terrific. As was the freshly made cannoli we shared for dessert.
I was picking my husband up at the Boston Airport at 4pm on Sat night. He suggested we go out to eat and didn't care where. I tried to pick a place that would be on the way home for us since we live in NH. I picked Out of the Blue in Somerville MA. It was a great pick. It is mostly a seafood restaurant. We had PEI mussels for an app then Scallops and Salmon for our dinner entrees. It is in a part of Somerville called Davis Square. The parking will be your only issue. I made reservations on Open Table for 5pm so we didn't really have a problem. Hope you will give it a try.
I was very pleased to have a meal that was cooked to order and not over cooked. I was suprised to see OUT OF THE BLUE as casual as it was.
Really enjoyed our entrees - Cajun Swordfish and Sesame Salmon - both were delicious! Staff and owners always very welcoming - great place for hot meal on a cold night.
