The food was good. The service was excellent. I was hoping for daily specials, but I did not see a list and the waitress did not say anything about having daily specials. This was my first time for dinner there. The restaurant was not crowded. We were seated immediately upon arrival. They seem to have more of a breakfast crowd than a dinner crowd.
We chose outdoor "Biergarden"seating which was pleasant enough. We have been going here for over 30 years. This review is very uncharacteristic of our previous experiences.
Service - terrible. There were a total of 3 occupied tables and 1 at an inside table. It took about 20 minutes to even get a menu and then more time to get a drink before dinner. The restaurant had 1 waiter covering everyone.
Food - Our reservation was Sunday 7:30 PM. We chose the $21.99 buffet which closed at 8:00 PM. They already removed the sterno heaters for the food trays. Everything was dryed out, heavily dried breading that rendered those items tasteless. The selection was unappetizing and sparce in my opinion. We will return, but never order the buffet. The desert was uninspiring.
Our waiter told us that the manager or person in charge simply left but not before closing out ALL our waiter's checks. So, he had trouble entering our credit card into the system.
It was a an uncharacteristically disappointing night at Otto's. This dinner was a one-off. Ordinarily, I would have given 4-5 stars.
Friday night had band music and they were excellent (though nothing Germany about music). Food was not impressive. Had sausage sampler. For a German restaurant, they were very lacking. Server never came back to refill drinks. On outside patio, they still allow smoking and that was annoying.
We have been coming here for my husband's birthday for many years and I have to say this was the worst experience. I had to get up and get our drinks from the bar because they were just sitting there. I ordered a salad but never received it. My husband ordered a prime rib medium rare and it came out well done. We were kept waiting alot. To say the least it was disappointing.
Food was horrible horrendous and disgusting. They will never see our faces again. Waiter was excellent. He should go elsewhere to make a living and they beats out of our 100 points on Open Table because nobody knew how to use the computer. But it’s ok cause if I don’t get my points, it’ll be the last time I use open table too.
If you're constipated, this food is a cure-all.. went because we had a Groupon, but it wasn't valid on day we went.
Service was a little slow, but to be expected, since it was Father's Day
Fast seating on the outside deck. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was delicious.
The selection of German beers on tap is extensive with many of the traditional, hard to find in the US, German brands, for example Spaten Optimator. My meal of an assortment of German and Hungarian sausages with red cabbage and a salad with very good. However, my wife's roast beef sandwich was not as warm as she would like it. She sent it back. it was warm when it returned; probably microwaved. Overall Otto's is a great place to sit at the bar and enjoy a German beer. The food is secondary
Under staffed, mediocre food. No where near the old times
We love the outdoors and I grew up in Germany. We really enjoyed the platter. I miss spaetzle!!!
Our waitress was great! The food was awful. Had the buffet and everything was dried out and over cooked. They didn't even have anyone carving the prime rib, you had to carve it yourself. I won't go back.
The restaurant did not recognize our reservation and did not see it ok their side even though I rec’d a confirmation text and email a day before asking if I was still coming.
No reason to have a reservation if they don't hold the reservation.
Delivered wrong order; another order had salad dressing poured over salad when on-the-side was requested; crab cake on third order was greasy and no sides were served; no refills of drinks were offered. Ladies room was disgusting. Felt generous tip was a charitable contribution. Otto is rolling over in his grave!
We had a very delicious meal.
We love the Greman specialties they serve. The employees are so friendly, and great food.We always enjoy Ottos.
Were here many times. The years go by, but remain unchanged: excellent food, beer for every taste, excellent service. Thank you.
Otto’s a nice restaurant. The service was good, however, I was disappointed with the spaetzel, it was salty and I really look forward to having it as a side dish for my dinner. ( maybe it was the gravy) I don’t know. It wasn’t as good as I have had in the past.
Been here a few times and It always has been pretty good. But this time it was outstanding. Great meals for me and my friend. The waitress was very attentive. As good as you can get, Sauer Braten. I will be back again.
We've passed by here many times but never stopped in. It was convenient to be able to reserve a table on Open Table. The building is old and layout a little confusing. You have to enter through the bar and walk through seating area to get to hostess. The staff was friendly and our waiter great. The food had great flavor and was priced well. We will be back.
Decor is outdated and looks like it needs a scrubbing. Cafeteria type seating is not optimal for conversation. Food was ok, not great. I had lamb chops, which I asked for medium and they came out rare and bloody. I do not mind red or bloody, but this was really bloody.
The prices were super high and the food was not very good. I will never go back to eat at this restaurant!
Much has changed since our last visit. Friday is now a talent(less) nite of sorts. Having a quiet conversation over dinner was out of the question.
It’s just not good. The meat was dry and too salty and everything else was too salty. I’m not one for ambience if the food is good but the ambience is not good either.
We ate at Otto’s on Valentines Day. Our table faced the fireplace. We had a great meal and great service.
Relaxing and cozy 'mid-afternoon' experience with excellent, much-enjoyed real German food...sauerbraten, bratwurst, and homemade red cabbage, plus awesome homemade apple strudel with vanilla ice cream...Marvelous !! We certainly enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, glowing fireplace, and good, polite service from a lovely, experienced waitress...If you love German food, you'll never be unhappy ordering it here !!
Excellent authentic German food with a great selection of German beers on tap. A great dining Experience!
The waiter did NOT know how the food was prepared. Some in our party ordered a certain dish on the description of the waiter. What was plated was NOT as described. We waited quite a while for our food. Now this is expected with a larger party, however, once the food arrived, it was COLDl The rolls were raw inside and the strudel served for desert was also not cooked through. The restaurant is older and could use some updating
If you are looking for authentic German food give Otto's a try. Their red cabbage is delicious and the pork melts in your mouth. They also have a vast selection of American favorites.
Veal was VERY TOUGH!!!! Hard to CUT and hard to chew!
Never disappointed - food is very good and portion are large. Staff is very friendly and you never feel rushed. We at a 1 year old with us and there was no problem finding something on the menu she could eat. We skipped dessert this time since the portion were so big we had no room.
We stood at the door and while there was no one seated at the table & only 3 people at the bar, not even the barmaid acknowledged that we had entered. We stayed for a bit & left without eating. The "ambiance" is poor - it looks like a corner bar in the inner city. We will not return. There may be more to this place but we didn't see any reason to stay. It was unwelcoming & uninviting.
would recommend for everything. Only thing we didn't like is it was too bright, they should lower the lights a bit
The sauerbraten was delicious. Portions are large, and we brought some of our meal home and had it for dinner in a couple of days.
Please have spaetzle next time. My absolute favorite
Had a great time with friends. The noise level was high. Great service!
Small group of women went for lunch. Food selections were decent for lunch. I had the salmon which was very good. Service was attentive and they didn’t rush us at all.
Very very good. Appetizers were quite large portions.
The dinner was delicious.
The soup was absolutely amazing.
will definitely be returning.
Great German restaurant in Horsham. We all ordered the Weiner Schnitzel and various sides. Loved their cream of spinach. Service was good!
I was more than disappointed by my dining experience at Otto's. I was looking forward to our dinner. It had been many years since we had gone to Otto's. We used to go there often, as we know the former owners. I first ordered a small garden salad. The lettuce was yellow iceberg, yuck! My dinner entrée was supposed to be a veal dish. I am not even sure that's what it was. Half of the meat was so overcooked that I could not eat it. My husband's entrée was a sampler of German meats. It was enormous plate of overcooked sausages and chops. The side dishes were also awful. The mashed potatoes had no flavor and the carrots looked like they had been cooking for a week. Our server had absolutely no personality, which was never the case years ago. The place just feels like a (bad) diner, but the prices are at the fine dining level. It's a real shame, because Otto's was such an iconic restaurant with great food and a great staff.
