About Otto's Restaurant and Bar
A locally-owned Madison favorite, Otto's is set in a beautifully restored 1870s stone farm house with two dining levels. The menu features creative, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, fresh seafood, Certified Angus Beef steaks. A friendly lower-level bar serves classic cocktails and fine wines, and half-price appetizers from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesday – Friday. Outdoor dining and live jazz are featured on the deck during the summer. Otto's is not recommended for parties with children under the age of 7. Otto's is now wheelchair accessible.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Otto's features live jazz performances Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30, on our canopy-covered deck. Deck reservations can be made only by calling the restaurant directly.

We had three great meals for Valentine's Day. All were excellent. The salmon wrapped in grape leaves was a standard favorite and lived up to the flavorful taste we have come to expect. For the tasting menu, one of us had the lobster tail and one had the short ribs entree. The lobster was done perfectly and the short ribs were delicious along with the potatoes and mushrooms. As part of the tasting menu, the duck confit salad and tiramisu dessert were both exceptional. Quinn was our server. It was a joy talking to her, and she always takes good care of us. The before dinner cocktails did the job getting us relaxed for the excellent dinner that we had.
Four of us attended on a Friday night. The specials were very good along with our cocktails. Our server was very attentive but not intrusive. This is a great place for special occasions or just when you want to treat yourself and your spouse to a different dining experience. The menu is very diverse without being 8 pages long. A great time was had by all four of us attending.
We were celebrating my Mom's 70th birthday. Our waitress was great and the food was delicious. Salads left something to be desired, at our table we had both the house salad and the caesar salad, and neither were anything to rave about. Our meals were prepared and presented well. Drinks were delicious. Deserts were also excellent. All in all a wonderful experience. The only true "negative" would be the design of the building and the bitter cold Wisconsin weather. Even with a space heater near the front door I was VERY glad we were seated in a far corner upstairs, as I noticed others needing to dine with their coats on.
Another fine Evening at Otto's, the ribeye is better than at most steak restaurants, the rest of the menu is top notch, service is great and the ambience is outstanding -- no intrusive music, so you can have a conversation without yelling at your dining partners, not as common as one would like in Dane County restaurants these days. Do stay for the excellent desserts, especially the chocolate truffle cake.
The restaurant has a lovely dining room. The menu is varied and enticing. I had the shrimp cocktail for a starter. The shrimp were tasty and I would definitely recommend it. My caesar salad lacked a little something. I added the anchovies (two filets). They improved the salad, but I would rather have a more robust dressing. For my entree I had the 12 oz. ribeye. It was excellent. The vegetables served with it still tasted strongly of wine, which didn't pair with what I was drinking for dinner. Sadly, I skipped those. Overall the food was delicious and the portions are very generous. I definitely recommend Otto's and will be back again.
Described as a rustic farm house ambience with Mediterranean food. It was indeed a farm house but so simplistic in decor that it felt stark. There was no warmth to the room at all. Service was very good, there was only one other table occupied on a Saturday night. The mushroom soup was superb. Very hot and full of flavor. I had the sea bass they are known for and while it was good, not great for the price. Other than some appetizer choices, there seemed to be much more American fare than Mediterranean.
Delicious food in a beautiful setting. It is always consistently delicious. I like that main dishes come with salad or soup. The only thing that was odd was that my son ordered a steak and the waitress asked if he wanted mushrooms and fried onions on it. What came to the table was a pound of mushrooms and enough onions for 6. We wish we had been made aware of that as he would have declined.
We had a wonderful meal at Ottos, as we always have. The lamb chops were delicious and my husband's ribeye was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Best part of the night was the young couple getting engaged right next to us! A memorable and fun evening all around! Oh, and of course our server was top notch...
Friday was our first time to dine at Otto’s. Even from the outside walking up, I knew I chose wisely for our date. When you walk in, the bar is warm and welcoming. The main dining room upstairs was beautifully decorated for Yuletide. Our waitress and support staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and handled our evening in a very timely fashion. I was impressed with the creative menu, which was superbly executed. We had a wonderful night!
My wife and I had dinner at Otto's with friends and it was just ok. My wife ordered scallops and her reaction was they were overcooked. I ordered the Seafood Trio that included scallops and they were burned on the bottom. The meal also included salmon and it was dry.......it was over cooked as well. We have dined at Otto's a number of times and this time may have been the most disappointing meal we've had there. Having said that we did have great service. Quinn, our server, was very pleasant and did a great job with the service she provided us. Even though our meals weren't the best, the restaurant may have had an off night and we will return.
Beautiful place, impressed with decor and ambiance. Nice wine list. Very friendly for those with gluten free needs.
Not impressed with the seafood dishes - we ordered mussels (only 9 on the plate) and they were very rubbery and overcooked. Ditto for the scallops.
I had lamb chops that were very tasty, and the house salad was good too.
I will return for the other interesting items on the menu, but would not order seafood here again.
The food was excellent & Erica, our server, couldn’t have been any better. We celebrated a birthday & family visiting from out of state. We were allowed all the time we wanted to sit & visit. It was a perfect evening & we are telling everyone-& can’t wait to go back!!
Otto's always delivers a great dining experience. Quiet, a touch of elegance but comfortable, gracious service, well-prepared food, excellent bar and good wine list. It's one of my favorite places to eat with spouse, family, and/or friends. If I had to offer any criticism, it would be for a fairly limited menu for those who do not like lamb or scallops but would like something other than beef. A special thanks to "Erica" who served us and graciously took family photos on the occasion of my wife's 75th birthday.
Ottos is a hidden gem. Food is always excellent and the bar is a great place to grab a drink before dinner. It was a little noisy on Saturday night but most of the time it’s an easy place to talk around the table. We always say we need to come back more often because the food is always great. They were doing a prisoner wine company special so that is always a bonus!
