Otoro Sushi Ratings and Reviews
We have been going to Otoro for the past four years. Consistently good, although this time our service was a bit off with some forgotten items. Prices seem to have inched a bit higher and fish slices have gotten a bit thinner but it is still a nice place to come when enjoying a dining experience in the city.
Overpriced for subpar sushi.
Service is off. Not enough attention to tables or dedicated servers per table. Host is not just attentive, friendly. "Just business" attitude.
I wouldn't go back.
Especially since I had mentioned when making my reservation that it was my bf's birthday dinner. Nothing special at all. I felt bad for it not being as special as it could've been.
When we walked in, they had our table ready to go. I was thankful I made a reservation. Little did I know, this would be the highlight of the evening. We waited almost an hour to get our food, which took us all of about five minutes to eat. The service was just horrible. The food was average at best, and even with the waitress knowing that the service was bad, there was no discount offered. A simple 10% off would have gone a long way with me.
Otoro never disappoints and that's why we keep coming back time after time, especially with friends and family eager for an authentic sushi experience where we can test there limits but also tickle their fancies. Cozy setting with great cuisine featuring the freshest seafood and excellent sake list makes for a winning combination.
Otoro's selection for sashimi and sushi, and izakaya-style tapas was pretty good. However, on average, I felt a lot of the fish to be overpriced for its quality and presentation. Unfortunately, there were a lot of miscommunication with our server (I asked for sashimi as an appetizer but everything came out as nigiri, and she didn't seem to understand the difference, nor did she ever apologize). Had the quality of service been better, I would have looked forward to going back, but probably won't be invited I'm invited.
Great sushi, asian-fusion inspired food! I love how intimate the restaurant is and yet they can seat small parties easily. We ordered about 6 small plates which were excellent (cucumber salad, black cod, eggplant, fatty tuna, spicy hamachi roll, fatty tuna nigiri, and asparagus wrapped kobe beef which was my favorite). My only wish is to have more affordable prices BUT it was worth it. The prices is the only thing that keeps me from coming here more often. But for a special occasion, this was awesome!
This was my second time here. The food was good but comparable to many sushi restaurants in the city. My only problem is that they charge way more for their sushi. One example, I ordered 2 pieces of nigiri toro, cost, $12! I can get the same quality of food at many other spots in the city!
Solid sushi spot right near Civic Center and City Hall and all the theatres over there. It's pretty small (not much seating), but the menu was big and varied (both sushi and sake) and it was relatively cheap for such nice sushi. I had a great sake and a bunch of rolls. The Spider roll was big and flavorful. The special "lollipops" were veggie and fish wrapped in cucumber then cut into slices and skewered so they were like little lollipops! We also had a spicy tuna and mango roll that was awesome (and very spicy and sweet). And I had barracuda nigiri for the first time and it was firm, flaky, meaty, a bit fishy, and very very tasty.
My friend and I have eaten here four or five times before evening Symphony programs, arriving at 5:30 or 6, when the restaurant is not crowded. Apparently, it can be later on. The space is quite small, but the large window facing Oak Street makes it feel more spacious. We have never been disappointed in dishes we ordered; the black cod and tempura vegetables are favorites. Raw fish is not our thing, so no comment on that. Service is attentive and friendly. Good vibe. Otoro is one of our favorites in the area.
I took my 19-year-old son here for dinner before taking him to his first opera. We both liked our meals quite a bit! The service was good. The ambiance was good. The sushi was fresh and good. Our drinks and all parts of our meal were tasty and served in a beautiful way. I would go to this restaurant again and bring my husband!
