Contemporary American
Otium is a contemporary restaurant that draws from the rich culinary heritage of Timothy Hollingsworth. It is designed to be a social restaurant with a dramatic open kitchen merging indoor and outdoor spaces. The restaurant’s name, Otium, has its roots in Latin. A word that is meant to emphasize a place where time can be spent on leisurely social activities, both eating and drinking; adjacent to one of Los Angeles" most important cultural streets—Grand Avenue—and next to its newest, most vibrant addition, the contemporary art museum, The Broad. The restaurant draws inspiration from the 100-year-old olive trees planted in Broad Plaza by utilizing rustic cooking with live fire and sustainable ingredients grown in the garden of the restaurant’s mezzanine. Otium strips away the rigid formalities of dining while focusing on the quality of food, warm service, and relaxed casual ambience.

Otium was really on its game tonight. The food was fantastic. The new menu items like the stone crab and chestnut pasta were wonderful. The service was excellent. Great meal.

Burrata on toast with quince needs to be tried with your hands to achieve the contrast crunch and nice taste of the quince.

Otium has a small menu, and though the servers say they can accommodate dietary allergies, I found their selection for what they're willing/able to modify to be very limited. As well, the dishes that had the components I couldn't eat, it was as if the kitchen never saw the request for separation because everything touched. Thankfully I am not as sensitive as I was a few years ago, but I would caution anyone who has allergies or restrictions to avoid Otium.

Not sure I will go back. High prices for limited menu. Sandwiches have only one kind of bread. I’m allergic to it. Service was excellent. No parking validation. Ready to find other restaurants.

Great food, nice atmosphere, and most importantly they honored our requests in the reservation for a quieter table against the window. Really appreciated that. Food also came out pretty quickly.. wait staff is friendly and fairly attentive, although there was delay in being offered a refill for ice tea. All in all, a very nice dining experience and would highly recommend Otium.

Been three times. Dishes are hit or miss. When they hit, they are delicious! The service felt rushed and inattentive at times. Ambience is beautiful.

Love Otium usually but they sat 5 at a table for 4 and it was just not comfortable and not enough room for food. The odd thing is that when asked if we could move they said no but we could have made a reservation on open table. The manager said something about the reservations really go through square 7 or something like that. Didn’t make sense and she admitted it didn’t. Need better handling of patrons when we are repeat diners and let’s be honest...this place is not cheap.

Me and my wife was really excited about this place and I decided to take her here for her 30th birthday. As we got in we were wowed by the outside and inside decor. First up came naan and we added duck liver mousse with it flavor was amazing but after we finish the naan we were hoping we can get some more since we still had a lot of the mousse and truffle butter. Next we got chi toro tartar but when the server dropped it off there was no psa on it, granted it was a straight forward dish but it would’ve been nice. The server was really nice and I can see he was very busy so we just let that go and till this point everything was still going great. But after that it took awhile for our entrees to hit the table. the aged duck breast came first but that was my entree and the scallops came after the duck breast was finished. I wasn’t expecting an as-ready kitchen if I knew prior it would’ve ordered everything a bit differently and to be shared. On top of that the seared side of scallops was heavily salted and was over powering the sweet potato purée and not once had the server came to check on whether everything was okay. But being in the service industry myself I understand that it can be hard at times but this being a fine dining restaurant I would’ve hit every table regardless how busy it was. The server attitude was great but I hate to say that he at times was inattentive. I don’t how birthday service was done there but stated during reservation and confirmation that its a bday and would’ve been nice to be offered something for my wife’s birthday. I watched on as other table service on birthdays as they got desserts and stuff and I couldn’t hold back as a manager grabbed our check and I just had to ask maybe if we can get something for her birthday, but what we got was a cookie with a candle. Again I come from a service industry background and have a lot of fine dining experience but nothing other than the exterior and interior design of the place really stood out.

Loved Otium! We started with cocktails- Post Melon and Lil' Sebastian, both were excellent. We ordered: naan with chicken liver mouse (mousse was so good), the rigatoni (waitress said it's her favorite on the menu, I now agree- has a good citrus kick to it), the chicken and potatoes (generous portion, potatoes were good but we couldn't finish), and the black cod (chef's winning/famous entree, cod melts in your mouth). Overall food was great and staff helpful and attentive. We got there 20mins late for our res and were still seated right away.

The food was amazing! Portions were rather small for the price though. Additionally, need to keep eyes on drinks as I ordered a Kettle One specialty drink and I saw the Bartender put in Svedka instead. Definitely going back...
