Otium is a contemporary restaurant that draws from the rich culinary heritage of Timothy Hollingsworth. It is designed to be a social restaurant with a dramatic open kitchen merging indoor and outdoor spaces. The restaurant’s name, Otium, has its roots in Latin. A word that is meant to emphasize a place where time can be spent on leisurely social activities, both eating and drinking; adjacent to one of Los Angeles" most important cultural streets—Grand Avenue—and next to its newest, most vibrant addition, the contemporary art museum, The Broad. The restaurant draws inspiration from the 100-year-old olive trees planted in Broad Plaza by utilizing rustic cooking with live fire and sustainable ingredients grown in the garden of the restaurant’s mezzanine. Otium strips away the rigid formalities of dining while focusing on the quality of food, warm service, and relaxed casual ambience.

Very surprised at how mediocre (even terrible?) my last dining experience at Otium was. Having been once before many years ago and reading reviews that Otium had "finally found its groove," I had high but I thought reasonable expectations. Food was still good, though I found the signature black cod to be tough. But service as a whole was very off. Waiter was very friendly, but our final course did not arrive until at least twenty minutes after our prior round was cleared. New plates were hot when put down, cold when the dish finally arrived. Then, waiter brought us a check with what looked like two tables' orders combined, charging us for twice what we had actually ordered. Perhaps hoping to defray frustration at the situation, the waiter made a joke about the mistake, but did not apologize. Not cool.

A friend and I went for an early dinner before a performance. Service was really exceptional, knowledgeable and friendly. We shared four dishes, all delicious. I had one of the best martinis I’ve ever had. Highly recommend, looking forward to returning.

Food was excellent. We had grilled fish and farro salad that were delicious. Expensive.

I have eaten there many times and have thought the food was fantastic. However we told server we were going to the theater, and our entry took an hour and ten minutes. When it came it was not what we ordered, and awful. They comped us (we didn't have to pay) but what an incredible disappointing experience.

Wowzer...I had the Duck Confit for lunch. It was amazing! So flavorful and cooked to perfection. And the service was also outstanding.

Chicken was not as well cooked compared to previous visits. However, the potatoes are still amazing.

Everything was amazing. The service was incredible and the food unforgettable. Spending my 30th bday there was the best choice I could’ve made.

New Year’s Eve celebration. Pre-fix dinner a little pricey with wine paring but very good. Service was excellent! Would definitely return for dinner. Great ambiance and location near DTLA.

Me and my daughter came here for a NYE lunch after visiting the Broad museum. We arrived a little before our reservation time and was seated fairly quickly. One of my pet peeves is going to a high end restaurant and things not being clean. Underneath our booth were utensils and food still left from the last diners and there was something on my napkin.
The lunch menu is extremely limited in my opinion so it was a disappointment when we found out they were sold out of the two things my daughter wanted for lunch. There weren’t many things my daughter could enjoy since she doesn’t eat meat.
We both ordered a pasta dish that we enjoyed and shared the truffle fries. Initially they were extremely salty so our waiter was kind enough to replace them for us. I do wish for the gnocchi dish the truffles were shaved on top because for the price I didn’t feel I got enough truffle essence. I wouldn’t come here again for lunch but I would like to try them for dinner before giving a final consensus on how I feel about the food here.

Had a great lunch at Otium a couple months ago and was excited to have dinner there. Ended up blowing a lot of money on one of the most underwhelming meals I’ve had in 2019. Small portions, little flavor. Was given a different wine than I’d ordered. Servers kept trying to clear plates that weren’t finished and then dessert took forever to come to the table. Super disappointing.

We were a party of 6. We ordered drinks which took more than 30 minutes. We each ordered appetizers. Four appetizers arrived together with the other two not arriving for more than an additional 15 minutes. Additional drinks took 30 minutes. The bar is incompetent. Food is good but way overpriced!

Felicidades
