We went for Happy Hour, because we thought we could enjoy margaritas with our dog on the bar patio, but dogs aren't allowed. We tied her up outside the patio rails. Margaritas were okay, good price, but other visits have proven the food and service to be substandard for the area.
Food over salted.. Cocktails below standard. Service terrible. Tables dirty. We had to ask twice for knives, forks and napkins.
Great food. Nice staff. Easy to find parking.
They did a great job serving our large group for our daughter's special event. The service was fast and friendly. All the orders were correct and everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. Excellent!
Bad food. Worse service.
Great Food at a Great price Nice place We will go back real soon
I have been trying this restaurant ever since it opened - I used to really like the food there and most of my friends still do, but I think the food is a little sub-par from when they first came into Alameda. However, many people I know do not happen to agree with me and it was crowded enough, so I guess many people still do enjoy it.
We were not able to eat there. My reservation for 12 was accepted on Open Table but when I called to slightly change my reservation, I was told they don't take reservations on days like father's day. We had to scrable to find another place. Very disappointing unprofessional.
We took our group of 8 here after graduation from Berkeley because out of town guests wanted good mexican food. We had margaritas all around and a variety of different items from the menu. Everyone was very happy with the food, drinks and service. The cost for the meal was super reasonable... A Hidden Alameda Treasure
Love this place. Great. Margaritas & incredible fish frajitas. Love their chicken tamal with salsa verde and chicken enchilada with salsa verde.
Dined here again....it was absolutely wonderful. From the food to the atmosphere to the service....all good!!! Definitely would recommend to all.
Had my birthday dinner here with about 25 friends and family members. The dinner was very good, service was good, accommodations for our large group was great...I will be returning very soon!
Food was great & portions were big. None of our entrees cost more than $10. Margaritas are super stong. Service is a bit slow. There is a little parking lot in the back if this helps since its on the main street of Alameda.
Sunday Brunch buffet was good. Margarita was great. Retaurant needs to put name of food signage in front of each dish. I bypassed a few dishes because I didn't recognize.
I have been an enthusiastic customer at the Otaez restaurants for over 25 years. Recently Our family has regularly visited the Alameda restaurant (8-10 times per year since it opened) it's our "go-to" place for out of town guests holidays and just a good "almost: home cooked meal.
On 9-16-14 went wanted to enjoy dinner and celebrate Independence day (Mexican), so we made reservations and arrived about 5:30 pm. we found only one waiter, he forgot us!. We ordered mixed drinks which came in glasses that were broken and chipped on the bottom (my 3 yr. old granddaughter almost cut her hand but my 88 yr. old mother in law grabbed the glass out of her reach), I told our waiter and he said they were just like that.
Very sad/bad experience.
I have come here a handful of times because we can walk from our house and the food is quite good (especially the chicken mole!), however each time the service has been incredibly slow and the waiters do not frequent the table.
We've come for the monthly Mariachi music, a favorite of my husband, but I didn't have high expectations for the food; the other reviews were so mixed. After two visits, this is my take on the food: If you come for a platter of enchiladas, don't expect anything special. But if you try dishes that are more interesting, it's like the food is coming from another kitchen! Fresh fish, great vegetables, light broth or sauces. My daughter said her steak fajitas were the best ever! In our neck of the woods (Danville) these dishes would cost $21-29. But here they're $15! And there's plenty for two people, without factoring in the rice/beans. We gave up ordering pricey dishes at Mexican restaurants because they don't measure up.
Just fresh, satisfying Mexican food! We would definitely return.
Great mariachi band! Very busy and hence rather slow service.
Great food, good service, brunch and regular menu has a variety and is very tasteful. Eat here, yes!!!
Otaez is a good neighborhood restaurant in Alameda. My husband and I eat here often. Their carnitas is amazing. They have good vegetarian options. Great, fresh tortillas. I met friends here on Cinco de Mayo and the place was packed. Sangria is the best. Beer selection is good as well.
Been here several times. They always mix it up for Sunday brunch Very low cost and a good value. Was surprised to find some kind of sweeted sweet potato and cupcakes for dessert. Yum good for families
First time. Pleased with parking. space. service and the menu. We enjoyed a good meal.
We often come to this restaurant since it is close from work. The food is ok (not bad bit not particularly amazing) and the service is great. I like the fact that there are many options in the menu and the prices are not too high.
Authentic and delicious Mexican food in a fun setting. The staff is very fast and friendly. Great prices for large portions.
Food was a bit bland on this occasion. It's usually better, but we were there for an early mid-week lunch this time. Staff very friendly and service was good, as usual.
Otaez is among our favorite restaurants because of its delicious Mexican food and friendly employees. Prices are low, quality is excellent and portions are big.
This restaurant is awesome. Authentic Mexican Food. Great service. The salsa is out of this world. The food came to the table hot and delicious. I wish there was a location where I live.
Friendly, relaxed, sunny, and spacious. The food was traditional Mexican. Big plates come with creamy beans and moist, flavorful rice and tortillas. Delicious!
Great South of the Border Flavors! If you need a real Mexican Food fix this is this place! They use fresh ingredients and the Margarita's are fantastic!! This is the go to place for real South of Border Mexican Food!!
Some of the food was tasty and some was inedible. The wait staff we're not well organized, the food was late and very inconsistent. On the positive side, the Margaritas were good but slow in coming.
Newer building, appears clean. Decent food at reasonable prices. Margarita was good even though I ordered "blended" but got "on the rocks".
Food is great. Price is pretty good. But sometimes its kinda hard to find parking.
We hadn't been here in awhile. They serve very good Mexican Food. Huge portions, but we would have preferred a smaller plate. Loved their Margarita's! We will be back.
