Lovely menu but fish was way undercooked and inedible. Waitstaff not very attentive so we were not provided with an opportunity to report our experience.
Elegant with superb service. It was a lovely evening topped off with great food.
Great seafood and raw bar. Great meal. Server a little too attentive telling us we can take the wine to our room if we do not want to finish it here.
This was our 2nd visit to Ostra. We had to send our fried oyster appetizer back because the oysters were a bit under-done. Now, some of you might not mind that, but for our taste, we prefer them well-done. The server very politely offered to have another serving cooked for us, and they were perfect. We had the blackened redfish which was very good, and the sweet potato fries were very good too. They have a wonderful list of wines by the glass which is unusual. Most restaurants only have a few offerings by the glass. I'm sure will eat there again on another visit to San Antonio.
Great setting on the river with al fresco dining available. Enjoyed the parade of people streaming along the riverwalk. Had breakfast as well as lunch (separate occasions). Selections are adequate with some special meals. Excellent salads, receptive to alterations, friendly staff. Lobster roll was very good! Will return
Fine outdoor dining on the Riverwalk—what could be better? Excellent ambiance, good selections, and food well presented and tasty. Our only issue on this occasion was the crab addition to a salad didn’t taste fresh to my wife. The service was leisurely as well. The lobster roll was excellent. Will return.
Mother’s Day Dinner...! My mother loves red snapper and Ostra has the best!! Service was superb and the ambiance? ...well, it’s on the San Antonio Riverwalk...need I say more??!!
The food was great and quite nice to sit outside. It was s great Mother’s Day!
I was so disappointed in this restaurant. The only things we had that were good was calamari and ceviche. The kale salad is just big chunks of kale with dried apricots thrown in, the fish tacos are dry and very unappealing. Service was terrible....we had to ask for silverware twice, servers are very inattentive. Love the location on the river, but that’s about it! We would not go back.
Always enjoy this restaurant on the river. Food and service is great and the people watching is always enjoyable.
Oysters were shucked ok. Half of them had grit but thats on par for san antonio. Im not one for salt but risotto was horribly under seasoned. Scallopes appeared seared nicely but where raw in the middle. Coconut curry was very unbalanced in spice. Good restaurant for the riverwalk but i wouldnt go there again. To many better options in san antonio.
Great restaurant on the San Antonio Riverwalk . Excellent food, service and oyster shooters (if you're a fan). We had a great evening there with friends and will return!
First time to San Antonio and wanted good food and relaxing/enjoyable atmosphere- we were skeptical due to mixed reviews, but what a great decision!! The food, service and ambience were all A+!!! Highly recommend!
Wait staff seemed uninterested in making requested accommodations. She came off as distant and somewhat passive aggressive. Food was good, although the value just wasn’t there. Definitely not worth a $150 meal for two people. Nice ambiance because it’s on the river-walk.
We were a bit cautious due to 1) the fact it was on the river walk and the associated tourist trap phenom 2) the mixed reviews on OT. but decided to try it out anyway. We were pleased we that we made that decision.
Our bartender, Patty, was great. She crafted a fine cocktail and shared some local insight on things to do in the area, which worked out great for us.
Our server, Cynthia, was polite, warm, and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. She made some great food recommendations and did a nice job with the wine pairing.
The food was tasty, properly timed and presented nicely. We really enjoyed the Civiche.
All in all this was a much better experience than we had expected and would recommend it to others.
Our server was prompt and knowledgeable . We couldn’t have had a better table - right on the Riverwalk and the meal was excellent.
Really good, tasty food. I had the Ahi Tuna and my wife had the Salmon. Prepared very well!
Staff was wonderful and the food came out fast!
Whenever we go to San Antonio Riverwalk will make it a point of having dinner at Ostra! The service is always great as well as the food!!
I will say that the New England clam chowder was the best I’ve ever had. The Mediterranean Sea bass was incredible.
My expectations were higher than what we had, not a fancy less far than elegant but the name!!!
What we ordered was not the best quality of seafood☹️
Food was mediocre, not worth the price. Service was slower than average.
It was fantastic. And our waiter, Jorge, was the best!!
Fantastic Meal, Fantastic Staff. Beautiful venue. We ordered the Seafood tower ans it was impressive as it was Delicious. Had an immensely enjoyable evening. Thank you!!
We were seated promptly at our appointed time. Service was attentive. We ordered a nice bottle of wine. I told our waiter that we wanted a leisurely dinner. This request was honored and we never felt pressured to give up the table. We had wine, starters, main course dessert and after dinner cocktail. Total of 2.5 hours. Great people watching on the river walk.
Excellent service, incredible ambiance, average food, though others have had a better experience than we did. I had the Gumbo, Tuna Tacos, and Crab Meat; my colleagues had a whole fish and a fillet Mignon. All of us thought the food was pretty good - but we expected more for the price. The service was outstanding - Candace was delightful and attentive - and the outdoor dining on the RiverWalk was excellent. Other reviews rave about the Oysters and other raw offerings and Scallops, and maybe that's the way to go.
Great food, but service was eh....
Great meal. The server was a tad bit inattentive but it was a great meal overall.
While normally fantastic, on this occasion our food took a very long time to come out, our waiter disappeared for long periods and bugs were flying around inside restaurant. It was a Thursday night and the restaurant was close to empty, so I’m unsure why our experience was so different from previous ones. We would have mentioned this to a manager but no one came by our table like in the past and we didn’t see anyone that appeared to be a manager.
The staff and food were exceptionally good, we had a great birthday dinner here.
It was very busy yet we were seated on time. The food was terrific. Our waiter was very helpful.
We were in San Antonio for the NCAA Final Four and chose Ostra because it was highly recommended by AAA. It certainly did not disappoint. We had a wonderful meal. Started with Oysters on the 1/2 shelll, followed by a cesar salad and I had Barramundi and my husband had a filet. We each had a drink and a glass of wine. The service was very good and the food delicious. A fun atmosphere also.
We had a group of 8 and had an awesome table in a side alcove which was great to catch up with our friends we were with as it wasn’t noisy. Our server was great and the breakfast buffet was awesome!!
Easter and final 4-
I had booked through opentable and we were seated at 1100-they were busy but not overly so-were not given the option of ordering off the menu even though others at other tables were. We then went to the buffet where there were slim pickings-no sausage/meat, no potatoes left, the omelet station had few things to add to eggs-unbelievable.
We had to ask for juice, coffee refills-I was paying for the meal treating our friends so I was pretty embarrassed, needless to say.
Won’t go there again.
The service was not great, did not write down the order and messed up with multiple orders, we were a party of 6. Mahi - Mahi was good, not great and the sides was just ok as well. Calamari I do recommend though. It is set up well for a business dinner.
Had a reservation for 6, which they only had down for 5. They wouldn’t seat us because they didn’t have enough menus, even though they weren’t all that busy. The waiter left us for quite some time and didn’t come back. He did explain they were very busy and the food would take a long time. He bought us a bottle of wine due to the wait. The food was top notch. Definitely worth the wait.
Food and service were excellent, but the restaurant was too loud for our dinner meeting.
Hostess was rude, slow, aloof, inept. We had a reservation, half of restaurant was empty still took 10 minutes to be seated.
When finally seated it took 20 minutes to speak to a waitress. There was a waitress assistant who brought water and a basket of bread. Waitress attempted to take entree, drink, and appetizer order upon first conversation. Before putting in the order she explained the entire menu to another 6 top table. All told it took 45 minutes before we got drinks. We did complain to a manager but the service did not really get any faster or more courteous. He did comp a round of drinks but it’s beside the point for me. The service was TERRIBLE!
As for the food? I ordered the snapper with some sort of mushrooms. There were a couple people who ordered the scallops and pasta, and others who got the seafood papardelle. None of it was seasoned properly, the snapper was dry and yet somehow mushy, scallops were seared only on one side and had textural issues. Appetizers were not great either, the oyster selections felt like they were an attempt at appeasement for people who actually like seafood, not selections made based on a love and understanding of the mollusk. They also brought chimichurri, mignonette, hot sauce, horseradish, but no citrus with the oysters.
This place was incredibly bad. Regardless of the price, I’d rather eat Long John Silvers than the food I got, and the service/managers reaction was garbage.
This experience is executing a con job on tourists walking by. They should start over, retrain the kitchen and wait staff, redecorate, change the name, and get a new menu, because what they are doing is terrible.
Always love coming here. Seafood plateau is great seafood meal for one person even though it says two. Oysters were good. Love gulf coast style ones the best. Clams were ok. Calamari was awesome, almost a sweet maple syrup hint. Seafood pappardelle was good, chunky lobster and crabs meat. Scallops were buttery and thick. Great place to people watch since its right on the riverwalk. Only river restaurant that is actually good, most are below average tourist spots. I always come out of there with a higher bill than I think it should be but I guess thats the tourist tax and location rent I’m paying. Id come back more often if it wasn’t so pricey.
Food great, nice place, but need more servers. Service was really slow.
The sea food papardelle was fantastic and the service was outstanding.
