Ostra at Mokara Hotel & Spa Ratings and Reviews
I initially was looking for a restaurant that could accommodate 9 people within 2 hours. This was the only place that showed up. It’s on the Riverwalk and it was within walking distance of our hotel. It was so good I booked it the next night for a group of 8. The food was again great. The fish fresh. As we were sitting outside the next night a group of people we knew was walking by and I told them it was really good and based on my recommendation their group of 8 went inside and had dinner! I am surprised that the restaurant isn’t busier.
Service was great...order taken promptly...food was served hot...we both enjoyed our meals...seafood pappardelle and ahi tuna...serenaded during our meal by wandering singers...enjoyed this....waiter recommended bread pudding for dessert which the 2 of us shared and enjoyed....highly recommend!!!
Fabulous, we were in San Antonio three nights. Our first night and our last night we had dinner here. Fresh oysters and clams, wow. Lobster tails, Alaskan King crab legs, mahi-mahi all excellent. Desserts were soooo good. Service was great. Expensive but worth every penny!
I had never had Barramundi fish before but it was well prepared, mild, white, flakey fish with pork rosutto and charred green onion emulsion and crispy Brussels sprouts. My wife had the blackened red with converse gristmill polenta, wilted spinach and roasted tomato all done to her liking. Good presentation and a delicious meal.
Situated on the river walk with that touristy feel we should of known that the restaurant expects one and done" meaning you eat here once and then never go back. This is probably the case for many visitors to San Antonio. In our case it was due to mediocre service with a 10 minute wait for Coca Cola and I'm not kidding an Oyster PO Boy presented with one half sandwich with three fried oysters and cold French fries. To be fair the sandwich was replaced with a new one containing two halves. The manager did apologize with words and not deeds. Paid the check and left. Never to return.
We are visiting San Antonio from Oregon and wanted a nice dinner for our last night. We picked Ostra off the internet, the menu looked good, but we did not read any reviews. We sat outside on the patio next to the Riverwalk. This was the best dinner we’d had in months and we have recently been in Spain, New Zealand and France. Our party of four had Mahi Mahi, red snapper and pork tenderloin. Without exception, the meals were delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly without being intrusive. Highly recommend Ostra for a special evening.
Ostra was a wonderful surprise. Being a hotel restaurant, you never know what to expect. We had breakfast and dinner there, both meals were delicious, and the service was exceptional. Definitely recommend the Migas for breakfast, and the steak, snapper and bread pudding were all so good, we look forward to dining here again. You can have a quiet meal inside, or sit on the Riverwalk and enjoy the strolling mariachis.
We were there during hurricane Harvey. We had the place pretty much to ourselves. We were never rushed. The food was amazing and our server was great and attentive. We were celebrating our nephews engagement and the restaurants attention to detail made it a memorable night.
The food was pretty good but the drinks were way over priced which comes with the River Walk. Service from the waiter was poor. Our waiter was very kind but wasn't attentive. We had asked for a couple things and never received it from him. The guy who helped out but wasn't a waiter was good, they honestly should have him as a waiter instead. Manager was great, he greeted us as soon as we walked in and also checked on the tables periodically. For the Riverwalk it's not a bad choice but there are still a couple others that I would recommend first.
The location is great! We received impeccable service from John, who was an all around nice guy. We ordered the Gulf Seafood Plateau and it was amazing. Very fresh! My wedge salad was delicious as well. The entrees were just ok. One entree wasn't hot when they brought it and the other was just bland. The desserts were good, but not great. We did have a wonderful time and John took superb care of us. Overall a pleasant experience.
We love seafood and were heading to a weekend in San Antonio. I googled "Top seafood restaurants in San Antonio" and Ostra was the top rated one in the Riverwalk area, near our hotel. We had the scallops which were amazing, the tuna tacos appetizer, the gumbo, and the Ceasar salad -- all fantastic and expertly made. We split everything so our waitress Cynthia had the chef split the plates for us, which was nice. Oh! and the homemade bread was to die for. We sat inside in the air conditioned dining room which was quiet and elegant, off of the hot, noisy and crowded outside seating area, which we preferred.
Outstanding seafood! I found this place on Open Table a couple of years ago when I was dining alone and I was excited to bring my wife this time. She was pleased with the scallops. I had the barramundi, which included very tasty roasted Brussels Sprouts on the top.
We shared a delightful South African Chenin Blanc from Ernie Els winery.
Being right on the River Walk makes it interesting for people-watching.
Very disappointing. The food was bland - no taste to the crab gumbo & no crab. The calamari was over cooked. The seafood tagetelle was supposed to be cooked in wine sauce - no sauce to be found. This was a horrible dining experience. It was as if they gave us someone else's leftovers. Horrible....
