I do not understand the bad reviews that I read, especially for the service. Our server, John, was outstanding! We explained that we had to be at the theatre at 7:30 and that we would count on him to make sure we ordered our food in time, and he took his job very seriously. He was incredibly accommodating, keeping us well stocked with wine, warm bread, and butter; giving us his recommendations for and description of the menu items, and allowing us to share both salads and our entrees. The food was absolutely delicious. If I have one complaint it is that the wine was overpriced -- but that did not keep me from having two glasses! All in all a wonderful dining experience which we will definitely repeat in the future.
Everything was very salty. Instead of letting the ingredients speak for itself, there was too much salt added. Seafood come with natural salt inside them, no need to add extra salt.
Very nice restaurant, tasty food, great atmosphere, and outstanding service! Took my girlfriend here for our 1 year anniversary and we absolutely loved everything about it! Our dishes were superb along with our server David who was the embodiment of customer satisfaction and service! Highly recommend this restaurant for that simple date or special occasion!
Every thing was great except food took longer than expected. Saw people who ordered after us receiving theirs before but no explanation of why are food was taking longer
New Year’s Eve dinner on the river walk. Of course, very busy but service did not suffer. Food was good, not great. Some seafood items a bit over cooked. Overall, we were satisfied.
New Years! Great food on a fun night.
Overall I enjoyed the experience. Like many things on the river walk I feel that it's over priced. We enjoyed the two person chilled seafood entry, but I wouldn't recommend the oysters Rockefeller or the calamari. They both left a lot to be desired.
Steak wY under cooked. Had to wait almost an hour for a replacement
Food not worth the $150 bill for 3 people.
Delicious food and excellent service! Outdoor eating on scenic riverwalk!
We were anxious to find st this restaurant. The reviews were good. Unfortunately, our dinner took almost 90 minutes for our entrees to reach our table. Food was average and “warm” not “hot”. Server was very apologetic. Restaurant was not particularly busy, not sure what the problem was. We will not be back.
The location and ambiance is awesome, however, the cocktail, food and service were only fair. Wedge salad was dry, gumbo lacked flavor, salmon and bisque was probably the better items. Food was definitely sitting for a bit before it was brought to the table.
last minute meet up with my sister and mother for Christmas day and wanted to try something on the riverwalk. We were finding several places that were sold out already since we were searching the day before. This is where OpenTable came in hand showing us several options for us. Being that one of us is a vegan but will eat seafood the menu at Ostra looked perfect.
Seated on the patio, which is next to the riverwalk and was fun since many people were dressed up for Christmas. We all spied cocktails that we wanted to try out and decided on an appetizer to start with.
We started with the ceviche which was fantastic, loved the avocado combo and it was a good size that the 3 of us could share. My sister had the redfish dish and mother went with the seafood pappardelle, and I was going to share with them both. The food came out perfectly and our service was good with the waitress not being over attentive and allowing us to enjoy each others company.
I enjoyed the experience and will plan a return trip next time in SA.
Very good overall. Eggs Benedict were not as good as I am used to, but still good.
Looking forward to a Christmas eve special night out on the Riverwalk; however a few things took the 'special' away. Our reservation for 2 was for 6pm & we were seated at 5:50 our server was extremely personable & advised us of the chef's special. I ordered it & was advised about 5 minutes later that it was no longer available! To me, that's pretty early in the dinner service to run out! I was told that a different fish would be substituted & I agreed. Our appetizers were very good as were the house margaritas. My wife's entree arrived & I had to ask for bread & butter (which was not served as it was supposed to be). The server was not as attentive as he should have been because his stations were both inside & outside the restaurant & I had to relay my requests for him several times. My wife ate slowly waiting for my entree which was finally served by the maitre'd after a long wait & his apology. It was good but certainly not 'special'. I ordered a cappuccino which was extremely watery & hardly tasted of coffee. I sent it back & was rewarded with a fresh good tasting cup. All in all, just a fair experience. The staff apologized for it & not only provided a free dessert (excellent creme brulee) but took 25% off the bill. I may be willing to give the Ostra another try, but I'll think hard about it.
One word. Awful. Every aspect.
Service and food were outstanding. Our waiter was very attentive. We never felt neglected. The drinks, appetizers, and main course were delicious.
The food at Ostra is outstanding and the service is just right. While their prices are higher than most on the Riverwalk, it is well worth it for such great seafood.
The evening was absolutely perfect for a date night! Staff and Miguel our server performed at the level expected from this five star hotel. His mannerism and expert knowledge of his experience in cuisine and wine were exceptionally above par. The Tuna mini tacos and Crab cake appetizers were absolutely Devine joined with the delicious Malbec (Septima) brought the dishes alive. Exceptional pairing if you ask me, the evening was particularly beautiful with the seasonal Xmas light and ambience was enthralling due to the vibe ongoers were passing through the air! In conclusion
If your date night had become somewhat drab, please revive it with night out at the Ostra and experience a journey in which you and your partner can relive for many years to come!
The food was very good, with one exception: the grilled redfish was overly charred as was the Spanish octopus appetizer. The service was pleasant enough, but the wait person seemed overly concerned with the much larger table nearby, and we had to ask to get things served: I had a fish dish in bouilabaise sauce that was crying out for bread to soak up the delicious sauce, but we had to ask the wait person to bring bread about half way through the meal. The menu was fairly complete, but somewhat overpriced for what we got.
Food was fantastic and excellent service. No complaints at all. Will be back
Lekker eten. Leuk gezlschap. Goede sfeer. Goede bediening. Goede wijnkaart.
Nice ambience , faulty heater, overzealous service.
Food was pricey and fair quality.
Ordered salmon. Waiter said it was served medium, upon arrival it was very well done basically over cooked. Nice decor but wouldn’t rush back.
Underrated. We had the best meal of all restaurant at Ostra.
We were celebrating my wife’s birthday. Our server greeted us by name, and remembered us from the last time we were there for dinner while our daughter and son-in-law were visiting from out of state. There are many fine dining establishments on the Riverwalk, but Ostra has become our “go to” choice for visitors and special occasions. Ostra gets everything right.
This restaurant is nicely decorated and the ambience is great. My wife and I enjoyed a great dinner and I highly recommend going to this restaurant
We dined at Ostra on an unusual night - The Ford Holiday River Parade, so the noise level was loud with a three-piece band playing holiday music on the bridge that spanned the river close by. Gaiety reigned. It was really the perfect place to be on such a night. Even though the menu was limited, and the price for the three-course menu fixed, the offerings that I chose were tasty, well prepared, and delicious.
My first course was Charred Spanish Octopus, Chorizo, Spanish Papas, and a Soft Poached Egg. Never having had octopus before, I felt that Ostra probably was a good place to try it, and I was right. It was tender and the flavor was perfect. The chorizo was some of the best I had ever tasted. The soft poached egg brought the entire dish together.
The Applewood Roasted Salmon was perfectly cooked and I loved the Sweet Corn Puree that accompanied it. The Classic Creme Brulee with Fresh Berries was a delicious ending.
I am anxious to return on a night when the full menu is available.
The food was delicious! And you sit right on the riverwalk. It’s wonderful!
So good!! One of the best Riverwalk restaurants by far. Beautiful outside seating and delicious food. Gumbo, ceviche, redfish tacos and oyster po-boy—all perfect. Very nice margaritas. We will be back!
Ostra in right on the riverwalk, but in one of the most pleasant parts thereof. Food on the riverwalk is generally poor, but Ostra is actually quite good. I had a redfish ceviche, which was very good, and the octopus, which was also very good but perhaps with too much chorizo. My wife had the mussels which were very good also. Her only complaint was that the sauce was VERY rich. Cost of food is quite high, but typical for the location. Portion sizes were very large, which was why we both ate two appetizers. Overall, a good choice for San Antonio.
Service was quick and friendly without overstating. Food was well prepared and presented.
I’ve been to Ostra before and it was really good. This time it was awful. I was treating my best friend to a spa weekend before her upcoming wedding. We decided to stay close and just go to the restaurant in the hotel. The service was horrible. We had reservations and they weren’t that busy. The waiter hardly checked on us. I had to ask for more water twice. He never came back to see how our food was. I had to flag him down because the pasta dish we ordered was cold. The plate was piping hot, but the food was cold and the pasta was undercooked. I had the steak and scallops which was good and prepared really well. The service was so bad and the food was mediocre. Not worth $150. We didn’t even have dessert we were so displeased. I’m always a 20% tipper, even when service isn’t good, but it was so bad I only left 15%. They need to step it up!
Were very pleased with our recent visit to Ostra. Service was outstanding, with answers to all our questions, and good attentiveness. It was a lovely setting on the Riverwalk, and quieter than most...we were able to converse and feel relaxed and unhurried. Loved the food, as well. We enjoyed the scallops with coconut curry, and the featured dish of seafood, rabbit, and creamy sauced orzo. Calamari were crispy and loved the batter! I love the BLUE glasses and pretty margarita glasses.
We had an excellent meal at Ostra this past Friday. I had oysters and the blackened Redfish and my wife had the ahi Tuna. The food, the service and the wine (a bottle of the Rioja Reserva) were all excellent. And, we had a great table outside even though it had just stopped raining and they weren’t serving outside. We asked when we arrived and they made it happen.
Menu has not been updated. The lobster on the lobster roll was over cooked.
Excellent food and service!
The ambience was perfect. The service outstanding. The food memorable. We will come back. A bonus: The Texas-TCU game appeared on the TV screen over the bar to our left. We got to watch a Longhorn win for dessert. The apple pudding ice cream dessert was fabulous. The view of the Riverwalk from our booth was beautiful. Highly recommend!
The food is always very good, staff always friendly.
We really enjoyed our dining experience at Ostra. Our server, John was amazing and very helpful in making our choices for appetizers, dinner and wine. The food was absolutely wonderful - very creative chef! I had sea bass and my date had bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. Both were very tasty and cooked to perfection! I certainly would return to this beautiful and intimate venue next time I am in San Antonio.
Delicious seafood! A little more hectic than I had imagined and it was right up close to the Riverwalk and there was no barrier. Still an enjoyable experience.
