Osteria Via Stato Ratings and Reviews
I thought the food was excellent! The atmosphere was cozy and cute. It had a modern day feel but also the roots of Italy. The caprese salad was my favorite. I had the Penne pasta and it was delicious! I also recommend their Espresso Martini for an after dinner drink. It was a great experience.
We had a delicious meal with friends on New Years Eve. The night’s risotto special was braised short ribs and was rich, creamy and decadent. Fish special was amazing and of course the pasta was homemade and delicious. The service was fantastic. Tina was very attentive and made our dining experience so fun.
Another great meal at Osteria. Not only is the food fantastic but the staff is 100% kind, caring and concerned about my family having a great time. Our server was excellent, there when we needed him, but not intrusive at all. He had great suggestions and added needed input to our menu suggestions. Manager was super friendly, making his way from table to table checking on everyone's meals. It's nice when the manager actually makes the rounds and interacts with the guests. Cocktails were unique and strong - no watered drinks at Osteria. The seasonal cranberry mule was our hands down favorite. Food was all excellent - prosciutto & mozzarella appetizer has a ton of prosciutto, bread and cheese. Almost a meal in itself. Seafood stew was savory, rich and full of fresh seafood. What a great tomato-y sauce. Pastas were rich and creamy and the table favorite was the arrabiata. Mashed potato side item was so rich - - it was the best!!! Some interesting desserts - - the chocolate bar comes with candied orange peel and nuts - - they break up the candy bar and you it all together. Fun and tasty! Definitely a great restaurant. We will definitely visit again. A+
Fabulous! We had the family dinner and could not have asked for a better experience. The food was incredible - especially the potatoes in both the apps and main courses. My beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked and the pasta was perfection. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable while also not crowding us or rushing the meal. An amazing experience.
Absolutely delicious! Everything from the appetizers to entrees! We all loved the food and the ambiance! The atmosphere is rustic and warm and wonderful! We loved everything about our dining experience. We hope to return next time we are in Chicago. We hope it doesn’t change. One note - our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly but needed to come by a bit more often - however, we recognize he was very busy with multiple tables.
I mistakenly reserved this restaurant through OpenTable thinking we had dined there once before. Sadly I was mistaken. I told them we were expecting great Italian food and they said this was the place; however it was crowd food. We ordered the fixed menu for $39. It wasn’t until we got our ticket that I discovered there was an up charge for the fish and steak they were average at best. Had I known I would’ve just ordered off the regular menu the waiter explained it after we got our ticket; he claims he explained it when we ordered. I should’ve read the menu in detail rather than relying on our waiter. The restaurant is in a Hotel with lots of family and children and it caters to that crowd. For a large restaurant it only had one bathroom and if occupied you had to go into the hotel to the second floor passed the swimming pool to get to the public restroom. Anyone wanting a fine dining experience stay clear of this restaurant.
The Feast of the Seven Fishes was perfect. Loved that they gave you samples of all the sides as well as all of the deserts. The octopus was wonderful. Really enjoyed the roasted garlic and the white bean dip. The seafood stew was succulent. So much seafood , so tender.
We were wedged literally in between an approximately 30+ person party spanning 3 large tables, in a small room. Those 30 people were yelling across the tables to each other, bumping our table in all directions as they mingled with their friends at the other tables, and the waiters and waitresses were also bumping our table in all directions, trying to serve the large tables and maneuvering around the mingling guests. Not sure why they didn’t put the party in a private room, or inform us that we would be stuck in the middle of it, but when we mentioned the poor experience to the hostess, she really couldn’t care less. Won’t go back even though the food was decent.
My wife and I dined at Osteria Via Stato to celebrate our anniversary. Everything about this experience was great. The food was superb, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was just right for an enjoyable evening. We are likely to return in the future and can recommend this as a great place for any occasion.
Great little Italian spot in Chicago. This was our 2nd time dining here and the food was great again! I had the seafood stew and it was very tasty, great broth! I had the house Chardonnay and it was very tasty and a great price. The manager was around; bussing tables, checking on guest and even grabbed our bill to run. Will go back again!
We all enjoyed our dinner and has a salad and a side of pasta.—which was plenty of food for the four women eating. They have a large selection of Italian wines from different regions of Italy. We tried the penne pasta, the ravioli with pumpkin and the chicken with broccoli. Everyone said their food was very good. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Chicago.
From Wisconsin. First time at this restaurant. With my daughter and 17 year old grandson who wanted a "food experience". I am also Italian and quite an accomplished cook, so I know and appreciate outstanding service and food. It was great. The waitress was outstanding in her suggestions. We chose the multi course option so we could try different dishes. A great choice. I WILL be back.!!
It was quite noisy, however....a bit hard to have a conversation with the 3 of us without leaning in and talking as loud as we could.
Not going to stop me from returning, however!
We made reservations at Osteria as we were staying at the Embassy Suites adjacent to it and were looking for a good Italian dinner on our last night. Based on reviews, we selected this restaurant. They seated us even though we were 15 mins early, and our waiter was excellent! I had their fresh green salad ..... delicious! And their penne pasta in a spicy red sauce with chicken .... excellent! My friend chose the mixed green salad with chicken and raved about it. It was huge .... it’s a main course salad, so beware if you plan to have a protein along with it. He also had the ribeye and commented on how excellent it was. We enjoyed our meal and would recommend them. The ribeye was a bit pricey, but then again it was ~15 oz.
