We were referred to this restaurant and tried it on our last night in Chicago. If we had visited on our first night we definitely would have returned!
Words cannot describe how much we enjoyed the gnocchi!!! Unbelievable!!! We also enjoyed the short rib risotto. This meal exceeded our expectations.
Top the evening off with a wonderful cappuccino and you are all set for the night.
Casual Italian. We had the Gnocchi and the Risotto - both were very good.
First time here, and it was great. Will be back.
We’ve been back to Osteria via Stato on multiple occasions. We always enjoy the cavatelli, the pork chop when available, and the calamari. It has a nice wine selection and excellent service.
Quality and offering of food was inadequate for the occasion and price. The layout was also very awkward as the food was situated immediately at the entrance. I would easily say I would not recommend not will I ever go again. Highly disappointed and dissatisfied.
Our second year in a row coming here for Mother's Day Brunch. Staff is very good. Food is out of this world delicious. My guess is that the food is the same every Sunday, but the Mother's Day upcharge was in effect. Even with that, well worth it!
Food was ok, waiter was really nice.
The food and service were outstanding. We were disappointed that we had to wait thirty minutes to be seated when we made the reservation a month ago. Does mean anything to mention on Open table it’s someone’s birthday? Restaurants never seem to acknowledge.
Valet Parking was spotty and waited about 15 minutes w/flashers on...for a Saturday evening 6:00 pm reservation this was a surprise. Our service was good yet our waiter was on super speed. Zipping in and out he seldom waited for our reply and we felt rushed...He was efficient and knowledgeable but no rapport with the client. Food always excellent - music too loud as we were given a seats by the kitchen doors after declining a table at the entrance to the restaurant by the swinging doors. Again, staff tried to be accommodating. Lukewarm on the experience as I was entertaining out of town guests.
Okay ! Expensive, small portions but good food.
Food & service are wonderful. The value for the price you pay is not the best. We had scallops and a steak entree. The scallops in lemon cream sauce were delicious. A little sandy, but delicious. The steak portion was very small for the high price tag, but it tasted wonderful.
Good to see old and new friends.
Our favorite date spot. We love the food and the Service is the best.
Great service. I prefer the atmosphere on the pizzeria side though.
Not worth the trip downtown, food is a bit pricey and not very good quality. The room feels very claustrophobic, not much ambiance.
Loved it! Penne with spicy tomato is one of the best penne dishes i've ever had. The risotto special was excellent as well.
We had a delicious meal last night. The pizza had a crispy thin crust and plenty of spicy pepperoni. The veal meatballs were also good and a generous portion for sharing. The bar makes a tasty Manhattan. The wine choices were extensive but a bit overpriced. Service was thoughtful and attentive.
Osteria Via Stato is much better for a late lunch or dinner. The brunch buffet was picked through and not well stocked. Overall, not our best experience with this restaurant.
This was my favorite restaurant until this past Sunday. We went for Easter brunch and even when I spoke to a live person, I was not told that the Easter brunch was more expensive than usual and that the bottom less Mimosa‘s they normally give you was also not on this brunch day. Where do you set up the buffet they insisted on playing “classic rock “music, and when I looked at the house and said Ozzy Osbourne really? He replied “it’s classic rock”—I am almost wondering if they played that music so people wouldn’t take as much food. The quality of the food was OK, definitely had a hard time keeping up with the donuts, the carving station. I will be thinking long and hard before I go back.
I called ahead to see if they have gluten free options and the hostess said they did.
My parents liked it, they had a fairly good variety, and we were able to sit outside.
The staff was very friendly and out waiter was attentive.
For four people for a buffet our bill was nearly $300. Not worth it considering there was no carving station, and the only solo meat option was chicken. The gluten free options weren't that great either. Basically, it was the chicken, vegetables, and fruit. Being that the highlights of the buffet were waffles and french toast, I definitely was paying too much to not have those in a gluten free option.
We travel a lot, and usually places have gluten free pancakes, waffles, or bread options for me. I was surprised that a restaurant in the heart of a major city did not.
It was birthday dinner and service was great. Food wasn’t bad either.
We had an excellent meal. Portion sizes were good and our waiter (Mike) took good care of us. We will definitely return.
Best authentic Italian food that we have ever had. Had the three course meal and it was worth every penny. Our waitress was Deborah. She was excellent and you could tell she loves her job. We will definitely go back to Osteria Via Stato next time we are in Chicago.
The buffet was excellent. As customers can return to the offerings as often as they choose, there is nothing “cheap” about the buffet. The desserts were exceptional.
Great food and service! I recommend the gnocchi, and the complimentary bread/roasted garlic was amazing.
Food was absolutely wonderful. We stayed at the Embassy and ate there two night in a row!
Lovely dinner. Look forward to returning. Chicken Maria was outstanding!
Dined with 3 colleagues on a Wednesday night at 7p before heading over to Readhead Piano Bar (also recommend - it's directly across the street). Was pleasantly surprised, had planned to dine at Quartino's but they had no availability. I had the Veal Osso Bucco, others had Seafood Stew (2) and Orecchiette Pasta. Everyone thought their food was good, the service was on-point and appropriately paced. We had salads before, the Caesar was very tasty. All portions are generous, but not overwhelming. We also shared a bottle of the Valpolicella which was also quite good and a reasonable price.
I’ve always admired the consistent excellent service at Lettuce restaurants but for some unknown reason it was really poor this time. Great water and bread service but we were seated for over 15 minutes before finally seeing our waiter. Ordered cocktails and 10 minutes later the waiter returned without our drinks wanting our dinner order. The restaurant wasn’t that busy; maybe some of the wait staff didn’t show up but it didn’t seem any other table was having a problem. We’ll return because the food etc was very good and Lettuce restaurants have always been great-hopefully an off night for some unknown reason. Also kudos to the manager-there appeared to be only 1 valet so there was a long wait but the manager came out, took our keys and later brought us the valet claim parking ticket. Very nice!
I haven’t been here for years and remembered that I was very impressed by the Chicken Mario last time. We ordered the calamari, cacio e pepe and scallops. Everything was delicious, but the scallops were by far our favorite. I even asked for a spoon to finish the sauce!
I had a great experience for brunch on Sunday. I forget our server's name but she was amazing. Very attentive and personable. The food was excellent. Will come back soon!
Came here for brunch and was actually shocked by how wonderful the experience was! The food was actually reminiscent of the food I ate while vacationing in Rome. The executive chef was exceptionally kind, and all of the staff were courteous! There was nothing bad. We sampled the French toast, which is divine, the fresh bread, which was soft and delicate, the eggs which were airy, light and flavorful. The sausage was fresh and chock full of fennel seeds. There was an omelette station, fresh fruit and cheese, dessert stand and of course, bottomless mimosas. I genuinely think this is is the best breakfast I’ve had in River North, and one of the top places for brunch in the entire city. I’ll be back with more friends.
It was our first time and the waitress brought us complimentary crusted onion to sample. They were amazing. Such a great wait staff.
Food was excellent
Fantastic venue, food and service; we will be back!
Great date night & dining experience!!!
We have dined here for dinner several times and it is always wonderful. This was the first time we came for brunch and it was very nice. My 2 criticisms are that one there is no valet at brunch, second is the messiness of the coat rack area. The first thing you see walking in is the coat rack which was in the middle of the floor with debris and hangers on the floor even a few dirty cups. If this was my first time here I would have left. The hostess was just standing there too. Why would she not take a minute and straighten it up? Just saying!
The pizza at Osteria Via Stato ws wonderful as were the salads and embience. Really enjoyed our visit!
Took my server's recommendation and tried the Osso Buco. I wasn't disappointed at all. It was fabulous!!!!
We had an amazing experience at Osteria Via State! The food and wine were outstanding! The service was incredible! We would definitely come back here more than once.
