Our experience was fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and food. Highly recommend!
It was a nice anniversary dinner outside. Food was good. Not really memorable.
This was the ideal "wine on the patio" location for my anniversary last night. Tuesdays are half price bottles of wine, and the wine recommendation was perfect! Our food came out quickly and was all delicious. You absolutely must try the ciabatta and roasted garlic appetizer. We also got meatballs and calamari, both were excellent. We will definitely be back soon!
We dined on the patio and had a very good experience. The tables were appropriately distanced; we felt very safe. Wait staff were very good. This was our first time dining here and would definitely go back.
Osteria continues to be a favorite. The outdoor seating remains comfortable and is away from the street and shielded from the sidewalk.
The "virus menu" has enough choices to suit anyone's taste for Italian food.
It is a really nice place, amazing food and excellent to hang out with family/friends
All the employees made the experience!!!
Excellent food, good service, very good feeling about the Covid precautions.
It was so nice to be able to eat out again. The restaurant made us feel very welcome. Food and service was great. We ate outside, enjoyed our meal and time together.
Wonderful service and food. We had a great meal and appreciated the gracious staff members. Thank you!
It was a very intimate yet welcoming space. Food and drinks were fantastic. Well priced. Server was very friendly and knowledgeable. The margherita pizza could be maybe a few centimeters thicker haha. It was paper thin. Only complaint.
Overall, we had a nice evening. Our server was great, however the manager came to our table after we had been there for a little more than 2 hours and advised us that they had a 1.5 hour time limit and we had been there for 3 hours (which was inaccurate). We had ordered a second bottle of wine and had half of it left. We told the manager this was not communicated with us and we would finish our bottle and leave. The server came by and didn’t say much. 10 min later the manager came back and almost yelled at us; “Ladies come on!”
It was kind of embarrassing. We left our wine. I confronted the manager that no one advised us that we were under time restraints. He kind of apologized but was still rude about it.
I recognize the position restaurants are in and they want to turn their tables. The place was half empty and we were constantly ordering food/drinks. In addition, time restraints should be communicated immediately at the beginning of a meal. We were far over our time limit when we ordered another bottle, yet no one told us we would have to leave.
I’m a frequent lettuce entertain you diner as I love the food and service. This was a little disappointing.
The staff was all about safety and enjoying or meal! Great experience.
Dinner was terrific . We both had sausage pizza- delish! An excellent salad and caramel gelato- sooo good! It was our second time since outdoor dining opened. We will be back!
Food was good as ever. But I was disappointed that the ciabatta is no longer free. Nevertheless my husband and I had a great meal at the patio.
Good and service were great.
Osteria Via Stato makes your local Maggiano’s look like Spiaggia.
I haven’t been to Osteria Via Stato in many years, but had fond memories of my previous dining experiences, so I looked forward to returning. This was my first post-quarantine dining out, and it couldn’t have been more disappointing.
I don’t know when the restaurant changed so dramatically, but it is now a shell of its former self. A tourist trap. The Rainforest Cafe of “Italian” food. Even with the current dining restrictions in Chicago, that surely complicate operating a restaurant, nothing excuses the horrendous service and disgusting food that we received.
Our server was far too enamored with a table of young women to bother ever checking on us, our food, or our drinks. For example, at one point my friend & I waited 25 minutes for two cocktails. Unable to find our server on numerous occasions, we asked another server for help, who rudely barked at us to find someone else. (He was clearly having a bad evening, yelling multiple times at other servers.)
Our food was equally unacceptable: cold, salty, but otherwise flavorless. If you have experienced the Osteria Via Stato of the past, you’ll remember the family style menu, where small plate after small plate of appetizers arrived in rapid succession (like Italian tapas). And they were hot, fresh, and delicious. That’s not the case today. Be prepared for what I can only imagine is a plate of canned meatballs from Chef Boyardee and a wilted Caesar salad.
Our cocktails that took 25 minutes to craft were incredibly weak; I’m convinced they didn’t actually contain alcohol. If they did, they were either watered down, or the cheapest possible liquor available.
All of this for the bargain price of $320 for 4 people.
Loved my short ribs, Caesar salad, and ice cream! And bottle of Pinot Grigio. Great server! Made it fun.
Nice patio, good service. If they had a bigger variety on the menu, I would come more often.
Wonderful pizza filled with delicious sausage and amazing sauce
Outstanding service, delicious food!
At out, socially distanced. Service was great, safe and enjoyable. We were celebrating my birthday and staff went out of their way to bring me dessert and candles! Great time.
Waiter came once to take our order and that was it, no drink orders, no other items and no dessert. Just bad service.
Atmosphere was nice and quiet, music in the background. Waiter was very good and kind. The food was great and everything came in on time. Great Italian food that won’t break your bank. Will definitely be back.
Very gracious service at host stand and table. Did wait 1/2 hour with reso and Ended up at the worst table on the patio. Food was very good.
We loved it. Food was amazing, especially the chicken Milanese.
1st time back at dining out. Outside patio very noisy due to the location and an abundance of motorcycles. Try and get seated away from the corner. Food overall was good, but our salad had a small bit of packaging left in-luckily we spotted it before consuming.
The fixed price menu is an excellent way to share family-style starters and "primo corso"with individual choices from the main course. Of note was the mushroom polenta from the Alto Adige menu and the polpetone from the main menu. Highly recommended
Great food & service! It’s been a couple of years since we first came to osteria via stato. It will not be that long before our next visit here. My husband & I split an appetizer, salad, entree, & dessert and were very happy with portions to do that. We aren’t as big eaters as we used to be.
2nd visit on our trip to Chicago. The garlic with olive oil & balsamic vinegar dip is beyond yummy. The seasonal risotto was delicious. Good wine. Wonderful service. Looking forward to going again on our next trip.
Our server, Mike, was exceptional. We had the multi course dinner which allowed us to try 3 starters, followed by a pasta dish. We each picked our own entree. I had the seafood stew & my husband had the meatloaf wrapped in bacon. Both were delicious. They brought out a birthday dessert for my husband which was a nice touch.
Our wine selection was perfect and a great recommendation from our server.
An enjoyable evening. We would return.
I didn't like the fact that the chicken marsala came with two bone in thighs..!
Would recommend !!
Really enjoyed our experience and would recommend to anyone in the Chicago area to check it out.
OVS didn't miss a beat. Busy weekend in Chi town with NBA, car show, Valentines, etc. The service was a perfect blend of attentive yet not rushed. Each order from the kitchen prompt, hot, and the best we've had at OVS. The short rib risotto was amazing, as were the veal meatballs for a shareable app with cocktails. Perfect ambiance during the cold winter months. Nice job.
Andrea was a great server. Good delicious timely not too rushed. A great evening
Valentines dinner was absolutely great
I would recommend, but NOT for a holiday/event. We loved Osteria and decided to spend Valentine's Day here, especially since it had been a while since we last visited (we do not live in the city). I usually find my experience amazing, but this time it was different. After 7pm, they changed the menu to where you could not order whatever you wanted and the food and portions that were served with the Valentine's Day menu were very underwhelming (to put it politely). The appetizers seem random, the filet mignon looked like they filleted one cut multiple times, but served that one cut to more people... and dessert look like it was intended for a toddler. I hate when restaurants, try to capitalize off holidays by decreasing quality, control over options and portions, but instead raise prices to basically triple profits. To be honest, it kind of changed my view of a restaurant that we originally loved.
Valentine’s Day - pretty good price for a special meal. We each got a glass of sparkling Rose, a variety of appetizers to share, a risotto, entree, and dessert. All for $68. Food was pretty consistent.
Nice dinner, table was too small for all the plates.
