Osteria Stellina Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed our dinner here. My biggest complaint was that we were seated right next to the area where the servers picked up plates. There was a LOT of rushing around over there, and it definitely affected our experience. Get a table in the front of the restaurant (though it's not a large space at all). Also, our waiter did smile a couple of times, but for the most part, he appeared to be very distracted, looking over our heads all the time instead of at us when we were interacting with him. He forgot to let us look at the dessert menu while waiting for our food. Also, I asked the person who delivered our food for pepper, and didn't get it. I had to ask our waiter a few minutes later. So, while I would recommend this place and would go back, it's not exactly fine dining. This was Labor Day, so I think they were busier than usual.
This restaurant supplies what had been missing in Pt Reyes for many years - a really good, reliable restaurant that serves top notch food with great service. An essential stop after a day at the beach or hiking in Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Make reservations ahead, you may not be able to get a table otherwise.
Love this spot for lunch! Friendly server added to the experience of simply perfect food! We split the wonderful and large beet salad and the scrumptious grilled cheese sandwich. We had a great substitute of polenta for the side salad on the sandwich. Also, paid the 2 bucks for divine Brickmaiden bread and awesome olive oil to start. Lucky with the window table! And, decaf is excellent! Great comfort food....
This was our second visit to this restaurant in about a month. Our first visit rated 4 stars.
On our second visit, the food was okay, my wife and I both ordered the lamb. The meat was very tender but lacked any full taste. We had the berry cobbler dessert that was bairly room temperature. It is always difficult for a restaurant to meet the expectation of a 4 or 5 star visit, and Stellina's did not make it. Just Good.
The food quality was excellent, the staff was very nice and they were attentive. From reviews I've read, I expected leisurely dining and got it, but the food was worth waiting for. I would suggest that the restaurant owner look into doing something about the acoustics and perhaps invest in some air conditioning. It was extremely difficult to carry on a conversation because one had to yell to be heard, so we didn't talk much. And it was very warm bordering on hot and a little stuffy. NOT the restaurant to go to if you are claustrophobic or have an anxiety disorder.
This restaurant is extremely popular and you had best have reservations which I would suggest you make no less than two weeks in advance if you are planning to dine here on Saturday nights.
The food is very good, the panna cotte especially wonderful The wait staff however is remarkable for their friendliness and their knowledge as well as being helpful accommodating special needs. We have now eaten their 5 times over 2 years and have enjoyed each meal.
On a hot day, we'll invariably head to Pt. Reyes Station for cooler temperatures. And we'll head to Osteria Stellina for a great lunch. Our absolute favorite thing on the menu is the grilled cheese sandwich. We share one, as it's huge. Great sourdough bread and several kinds of cheeses - be sure to order the one with the grilled onions and braised lamb or goat. There is a small salad on the side. Pastas and pizzas are also great. Then the desserts! This last visit we had the Budino - peanut butter and chocolate together, never a bad idea. We tried the Water Buffalo ice cream but weren't really impressed but all other desserts we've had there are terrific. Reasonably priced wine list.
I love this place, and had been there earlier in the week, for dinner all by myself. I felt so comfortable being there alone, was just perfect. Took my niece and her boyfriend (they're from France) back for lunch and they loved it. It's so yummy...less than 5 stars just because it was a super hot day, so rare I know, and since they have no air conditioning, there was one small fan blowing...and as we came in, a patron advised us to eat in the room near the front door to catch any air/breeze that might happen. A few more fans for those rare days would make it nicer for both the customers and the staff, I'm sure. Or windows that could open? I think anything would help. But the food is beyond compare and thats what really counts!
My husband and I went here recently on a Friday night and we couldn't be happier. Love the ambiance/decor/tables, etc. We shared a mussel appetizer that was perfect. I've never seen such huge mussels and the broth it was prepared in was great. Everything on the menu sounded great but I'm on the Atkins diet so I opted for the salmon with veggies. Wow, it was the best salmon I think I've ever had. So moist & tender and the flavor was perfect. Veggies were great too. My husband had a pasta with lamb ragu. I took a bite (not on the Atkins diet) and it was equally good as my salmon if not better. I broke the diet rules and had a piece of the bread they serve with the meal. Yum! But the best of all was the dessert (again, not on the Atkins diet...whoops!). It was amazing. Warm flourless chocolate cake with caramel ice cream and creme fraiche. No joke, one of the best desserts I've had ever! On top of all that, the service was equally great. Left there feeling quite content. Can't wait to go back.
We are a mixed vegetarian and pescatarian family and when we open the menu I always think, "Hmmm. Limited selection." That's true, but we always leave feeling that we have had a delightful meal with plenty of variety. Everything is just so well-prepared, using fresh, flavorful ingredients. I recommend this place without hesitation.
Arrived right on time on a busy Saturday night, the place was full. Was shown to our table immediately--it was so nice to feel that we were expected. Beer selection was excellent... a nice touch for an Italian restaurant. Food was great, everything was fresh and delicious. I've been in Pt. Reyes so many times and always wanted to have a nice dinner here... so glad I did.
Very glad we had made reservations through Open Table to this excellent restaurant in the town of Pt Reyes Station. We arrived a bit early and were seated quickly, but shortly afterwards, noticed people hanging around outside waiting for tables.
Food was outstanding - we the pureed spring vegetable soup and a melon appetizer (drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt and cracked pepper). Both were perfect! We had ordered an oyster starter though, and had to remind our server that it had not arrived when they started preparing the table for our entrees. This was quickly remedied, and glad they did - they were very fresh and prepared perfectly. New York steak and Pasta w/ Lamb Ragu were also excellent. Finished off with a nice Gingerbread Cake with Lemon Ice Cream. Great place to splurge on a nice dinner. It is noisy, so not sure I would call it romantic...
We found Osteria Stellina online and it appeared to be a worthy try to celeberate my wife's birthday. We were delighted with the staff, service and especially the food. I highly recommend this establishment. Point Reyes is also a delightful village to spend time in.
We 've enjoyed this restaurant several times over the years. It's a welcome addition to. Pt Reyes Station. Our party of four was seated immediately and from there on service and food were excellent...most of us enjoyed a clam dish appetizer or main course but the salmon one of us got left everyone dripping with envy. Prices are fair. If I have a complaint it is that there is no full bar. Sure, the wine list is fine, but...
My adult children love to go to Point Reyes when they come home to Marin, so when we have a family get together, we often head over to spend the day. This is the perfect place for Grandparents, parents and children to eat. Wonderful atmosphere, something for everyone's palate and a truly lovely staff. The wine selection is varied and affordable, and they are happy to make suggestions based on the food you are ordering. This was not our first visit nor will it be our last, in fact, sometimes my husband and I just sneak out by ourselves!
The seating and tables are uncomfortable and too close together, there was no privacy. The staff was not very responsive, it took several requests before we received our drinks and we continued to have to request additional drinks throughout the evening.
The food was very good but the overall experience was not and I would not return.
We had truly outstanding service when it came to recommendations; our sever didn't oversell us on getting more food and was very helpful in selecting a wine that would work for a table with 4 seriously different palettes. I love the rustic Italian style of this place and the food and look forward to dining here everytime I'm in Point Reyes.
I have been to Osteria Stellina a few times, always having great food & recommend it to others going to Point Reyes Station. However this time with a party of 5 we were seated in the center of the restaurant with noise bouncing from all directions which is a struggle to carry on a conversation for this aging party of 5. The wine on tap, wild mushroom pizza, asparagus, beet salad & soup were a hit with each & everyone in the group. Next time with smaller group will prefer perimeter table.
This is a gem of a restaurant in Pt Reyes Station, in West Marin. The setting is lovely, the service is fine, ans the food is superb. Emphasis is on local farm-to-table produce. The pizzas and pastas are great, as are desserts. Not to be missed if you are lucky enough to be in this part of the world.
Ate lunch here. Food was above average, but the lunch menu was limited and unimaginative. Decent wine list. Ambience was exemplary: bright and airy, pleasant and quiet. Service was very good. Prospective diners should be aware that Stellina apparently has elected to serve people accompanied by so-called "emotional support" or "comfort" animals, and both a pet and its owner blighted our experience there.
Animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as genuine service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); see http://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm. They are merely pets, and their admission into restaurants (and other public establishments) is at the discretion of management.
Enjoy dining at Stellina, but it's only fair that you know that you might find yourself among people's pets masquerading as service dogs.
How often do you drive 45 minutes for a grilled cheese sandwich? It's worth it. There are other things on the menu and I'm sure they are good but the grilled cheese is to die for. Great crunchy toast, mix of cheeses, grilled onions, and braised goat or braised lamb. Good wine selections and nice atmosphere - the only drawback is the noise level.
Stellina's is a gem hiding in the little town of Point Reyes. Cute shops and a variety of food options would seem to make Stellina's a difficult choice. That's until you've eaten there. From the knowledgeable wait staff, the delicious, seasonal entree's and farm to table options you can't go wrong. Consistently excellent every time we've visited.
