Osteria la Civetta
The new fall menu had many offerings we found appealing. As always, we had a lovely evening🥰
This is our fifth year here, and before tonight, have always looked forward to coming here as our carb loading meal before running in the cape cod half the next morning. Unfortunately, our meals
tonight left a lot to be desired. Although We were seated promptly in a very desirable location, after that not much more met our expectations. First, the bread they brought to the table was cold and stale. Then, our meat and cheese board, which was filled with 4 different cheese and 3 meats, were dropped off at our table with no information on what types they were, something that any high end restaurant we have been to in the past has always offered to identify. Our spinach and salad sides were good, but when our entrees of pastas came out, they were all lukewarm at best although the plates were hot, which made us all wonder how they could have prepared it like that, because clearly our pasta had been sitting for awhile.
And lastly, when I made this reservation in open table, I was asked if this was a special occasion, which I responded that it was a birthday. Either the restaurant doesn’t even read those special requests or chose to ignore them because nothing was even acknowledged.
I usually don’t even write reviews, and I should have just told our server, but after discussing our disappointment walking back to our motel, I felt that I need to express our feelings about our experience.
the best in falmouth ma.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
They were busy but ready for us when we arrived. Our meal was delivered in a timely way without feeling rushed. Our server checked in without hovering. Best of all the meal was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend.
Best restaurant in Falmouth! It feels like you are dining in a cozy home in Tuscany. Can't get any better!
Have eaten at this restaurant a few times; every experience was something to “write home about” with the exception of tonight. The waitress raved about the special lasagna with a bechamel sauce that people were calling ahead to reserve. We decided we had to try it since she made such a fuss about it! We also ordered the stuffed tomoato and the burrata salad.
Well the lasagna was such a disappointment... dry... actually burned on the top... noodles were chewy and there was no sauce to speak of let alone a creamy white bechamel sauce. Such a let down after our waitress made such a fuss! The burrata was delicious but the stuffed tomato was horrible... it was stuffed with a breadcrumb paste of some sort... tasted frozen... as did the lasagna. I really have to say we were so let down. The waitress was understanding and without too much conversation she wisked our main dish away and offered something else, but we opted to finish our wine and partake in a tirmisu which ended up being delicious, but in no way made up for our disappointing main course.
This is our go-to place when you want amazing Italian food in an environment where you feel like your in your grandmother’s kitchen. The fresh bread is served with the best olive oil, the pastas are all homemade, the wine list has some great offerings and the servers are always attentive and helpful. You are never rushed as you take the time to enjoy your meal and possibly splurge on a yummy dessert.
Beautiful atmosphere, food was authenticity Italian. Waitress was so sweet and helpful. The food was amazing, we had the butternut squash tortelloni with sage and butter and it was perfect. Would highly recommend.
Lovely and cozy neighborhood restaurant. Food was excellent as was the service
The food was excellent. The atmosphere felt like I was in a little restaurant in a small village in Italy. Will definitely return for another wonderful meal
Growing up Italian in Boston was special for many reasons. My fondest memories of my mother and there were many, was Sunday dinners with homemade pasta. Other than making it myself, I have found my mom's "homemades" in Falmouth at Osteria. Other restaurants have good pasta but you have not had real Italian pasta until you have "homemade" pasta at Osteria. Whether your favorite is rigatoni, tagliatelli, tortellini, spaghetti or one of the other varieties, try some and dine at Osteria. They are not limited to pasta as their fish, chicken and meat dishes are delectable as well. However, if you have never had truly home made pasta you owe to your family and friends to experience Osteria la Civetta!!
ps. my grandmother born in Italy taught my mom!!
Like stepping into a neighborhood osteria in northern Italy. Authentic atmosphere; wonderful service and cuisine.
Very authentic Italian restaurant. Decor is warm and inviting and food was wonderful!
We love Falmouth and decided to come up for the weekend from ny. We were excited to return to your restaurant for dinner. We so enjoyed the pasta and a wonderful dessert.
As always, staff was warm and welcoming.
See you next summer.

Nicely laid out restaurant with good food but the serving staff need to remember the basics like smile and be courteous. Being presented with the bill halfway through eating our desserts did not impress me !
The food was very good as usual. The service was the worst I have had.
Gathering of old friends. Wine selections and food outstanding. Bolognese the best.
Awesome experience; great food and service.
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Cozy and not expensive for what you get.
We went here for the first time for our wedding anniversary. Both of us had excellent salad starters, and we both had entree specials. I had the pork terrine, and my husband had pasta with various shellfish in a light spicy sauce. They were both outstanding.
As the bottle of wine we wanted was unavailable that night, the staff spent time with us to find something suitable. The replacement selection was superb.
The ambiance was very nice, and the seating comfortable. The only complaint is that it was very dark. Could be a little bit brighter without losing the ambiance. We will absolutely be back.
Been here several times and food is always consistently good. This was a particularly busy night and service was slow but delicious food nevertheless..
The food at this place is consistently excellent! The weekend special is Lasagna, which is out of this world. This place is much more like a restaurant you would find in Italy than a “spags and balls” place in the US.
The real deal Italian, always good.
The service was outstanding - perfectly attentive and knowledgable. The food, as ever, was superb. Have loved this place since the day it opened.
As always, outstanding real Italian fare, well served and great value.
We loved our dinner at this restaurant! The food, wine and decor are all very authentic and reminded us of our time spent in Italy. Food and service were both excellent.
It is always a pleasure to visit this place! You feel like part of the family, and the food is incredibly good.
Amazing food, and the staff knew their wines. Very accommodating and had my window seat for our anniversary ready for us! Only negative was loud kids at the outside dining area could be heard inside which was distracting.
Homemade pasta is so authentic and absolutely fantastic. Great wine list too
As before. Excellent Authentic Italian cuisine. Best restaurant in Falmouth. And one of the best in Cape Cod.
We enjoyed our anniversary celebration at Osteria la Civetta. The food was delicious, and the ambiance lovely. The one drawback was with the server, who though he took our orders was absolutely non personable. He did his job, but with no pleasant interaction. He presented us our check with our dessert course, then came back before we had finished (or even looked at the check) to try to close out the bill. There were empty tables and we had not taken an inordinate amount of time with our meal. It really did tarnish our celebration a bit and was not the usual experience that we have had there in the past.
Ambiance was good. Very disappointed in the food. I got the short rib which they cut into pieces and then cooked. It tasted like beef teriyaki from an Asian restaurant, and not in a good way. Meat was tough. My friend had the bolognese and it was not very flavorful. Would not go back.
Osteria is a bit of Italy in downtown Falmouth. For years I have made my own pasta from scratch. Rigatoni, spaghetti and gnocchi are my family's favorites. Thanks to Osteria a simple reservation through OpenTable and our family will dine on the best home made pasta in town. Their specials are outstanding. They do not try to offer 3 pages of items, rather they offer a well defined menu that satisfies everyone's taste. Prices are very reasonable for authentic Italian dining.
The food was good. Perfectly al dente home made pasta. Really nice wine list. The vanilla gelato with cherries was to die for. However, our server had no interest in us other than dropping off the meal.
Great meal and service...the seafood special was overpriced at $34!
Cream of yellow pepper soup was divine!
Butternut squash tortelloni was scrumptious!
Decaf coffee was appreciatively rich and strong.
Definitely a memorable and delightful dinner!
So glad we chose this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary with out best friends. The service was impeccable . Our waitress (Isla I think is her name) was top notch. The food and cocktails were amazing! Can't wait to go back.
Everything about Osteria la Civetta was outstanding. I loathe noisy restaurants that blare music. This place not only serves delicious food, it also provides an atmosphere to enjoy it. Excellent service. Look forward to returning for another pleasurable dining experience.
Very kind service, great food and pleasant atmosphere.
