Very nice dinner! Delicious and authentic lasagna! We'll go back!
Dinner on 1/20/20 was really basic and really disappointing. We received the smallest dinner portion I have ever been served in a restaurant. Do not go here hungry! The Chicken Marsala did not have a nice marsala sauce, and the chicken breast was so, so small and basic. It was served will literally two very small potato wedges and a few carrot slivers. I left hungry. Not impressed! Wine selection is great.
Very tasty brunch during Restaurant Week. Good and more than just a few choices. One dish was too salty and I was quickly given another choice no questions asked. Good and friendly service is appreciated.
Friendly and personal greeting! The wait staff was exceptionally nice and the courses were brought to the table in a personal and timely manner. The food was spectacular! We will definitely be returning!
We went for Restaurant week and had the three course dinner. The brussel sprouts and caprese were both delicious first courses. I got the cavatelli carbonara, pasta was beautifully cooked and the sauce was scrumptious. My wife got the orrichiette dish which was light and also rather tasty. Cannoli and chocolate mousse were a wonderful way to end the meal. The ambiance was very nice and the restaurant was crowded which is always a good sign. Definitely going back for another meal soon!
Good food and good wine, Nice atmosphere and an escape from other loud Shirlington restaurants. Service needs improvement. Our wait staff was overwhelmed and could only get to us when they had time. Overall, a nice place to have dinner with friends.
The folks who own or manage this restaurant are delightful. We highly recommend them. We love Italian food and the variety and preparation are terrific.
We have been coming to Osteria da Nino for at least 3 years. We enjoy the excellent food, the great service, and the family restaurant ambience when the owner is present.
As close to authentic Italian food as I’ve ever found in the USA! (And I’ve lived in Italy.) I love this place, its food, and it’s quiet, welcoming ambience.
The food was very ordinary — a real disappointment!
Service was very slow at first. Waited close to 30 minutes before our server came
Better than Olive Garden but only by small amount. The decor and location leave a lot to be desired. The redeeming quality is the service and the owner. In a small market town with no Italian food this place would be fine. With the amazing chefs in DC, the food really needs a refresh. I hope they get it right as I hate to see nice people fail in business. Wishing them the best of luck and if they change the chef, I would gladly try again.
Hidden gem in Shirlington. Fabulous Caesar salad, fried oysters, squid ink pasta, brussel sprouts, pasta with clams, bread with dipping sauce, & desserts.
Firstly, this is a warm and inviting restaurant. From the moment you enter, your are greeted like family. All the servers are extremely knowledgeable and charming. Secondly, the food is out of this world... with new specials every day!! The chief is accommodating and will make your meal the way you desire. The owners, Nino and Jinder are front and center, making sure every bite is phenomenal. If you have not tried this restaurant, you are doing yourself a disservice. This has got to be one of the best restaurants in the DC, MD VA area!!!
A great restaurant for any location.. Extensive menu and a wonderful willingness to adapt any recipe to you dietary needs...vegan, vegetarian, etc.,
Very good food and atmosphere. Will go back again. Great service. Thank you for making our Christmas eve very special.
The house made squid ink pasta with fresh seafood is amazing. The staff are attentive without being overbearing. And the owner Nino, is a gracious host.
As usual, our visit to Osteria da Nino was a wonderful experience. Nino was a very gracious host and made sure we had everything we needed for an excellent Christmas Eve dinner. Our server, Cynthia, was very helpful and knowledgeable. She helped us make decisions between two or three items on the menu. I had the octopus salad which was delicious and the cioppino which was full of fish and seafood in a delicious sauce -- with lots of dipping bread! For the last 30 years, we have met long-time friends on Christmas Eve for dinner. Nino's has become our new go-to place.
Outstanding service, very good food. Wine selection is extensive with good wines even at the lower price ranges. Appetizers were excellent. We had Brussels sprouts and mushroom soup. The sprouts were among the best I've ever had! Soup was thick and had robust mushroom flavor. Main courses: the squid ink pasta with crab meat was excellent. The chicken and the veal Marsala were good, but had little Marsala sauce or flavor. Accompanying vegetables were all excellent, flavorful and not overcooked. All the entrees were served at the same time and were hot! In my experience, few restaurants do this as well. The service was attentive and helpful but not overbearing. The staff were mindful of our theatre reservation time and made sure that we were done in time without ever feeling rushed. Overall, a very pleasant meal.
We'll be back. Service, food, and price all quite nice.
My date and I really enjoyed our dinner there. Happy holidays to the owners and staff.
Warm, helpful service coupled with really good Italian food make this restaurant a favorite. Portions are generous. The relatively low noise level makes conversation easy; they don't pump up the music system to annoying levels. We've never been disappointed here.
Always love coming to this neighborhood gem. The service is always friendly and Nino welcomes you with open arms. The only complaint I have is that I noticed they don't give you as much octopus in the appetizer compared to when we first tried it on Mother's Day, May 2019. And the same person that made the eggplant parmesan dish in May was not the person who made it in December. The eggplant parmesan was mushy. But the dinners everybody else ordered were outstanding (i.e. osso buco with saffron risotto, pork chops, bistecca).
Another great dinner at Osteria da Nino, great ambience, great food and great service!
Another amazing meal with friends at Nino's. The food was outstanding, service impeccable, and hospitality always above and beyond!
Never disappointed when we go to Osteria da Nino. The food is great and the staff are friendly. You almost always get a visit from Nino!
I've brought several friends here for dinner but now for lunch. A meatball sub with side salad (or fries) is about $10...very reasonable for dining in a restaurant. My friend and I also splurged on the grilled octopus starter...two large pieces of tentacle (enough for 4 or more bites each) was delicious (I had had it before). Alas, we were too full to try dessert. I will return.
We had a table for 6 prior to a play at the Signature. It was my first time at the restaurant and everyone made me feel like a regular. The food and service were both excellent as we the chef's recommendations. I will return.
We went for dinner prior to attending an event at Signature Theater. We told the waitress when we arrived that we needed to leave no later than 7:15. I had caprese salad which was good. Then I had the lamb ragu which also tasted good but was about a cup of pasta for $18. My friend had raw oysters which she said were good. We ordered dessert which took 20 minutes to arrive and after repeated prompts. When it came, we had less than 5 minutes to gulp it down and pay to get to the theater on time. Considering that we allowed 1 hour and 30 minutes for dinner and warned the waitress on arrival, this is unacceptable. The restaurant reduced the bill by $15, but that didn't even cover the cost of our dessert which we did not enjoy. I would not go again.
Great as always. Nino is amazing. A great spot for before the theater.
Hands down the best Italian food I’ve have in the DC area. I lived in Italy for 3 years, and this restaurant is as authentic as it gets. Highly recommend !
The experience was so authentic and Nino took the time to stop and speak with us twice! Portions were Perfect and the wine pairing was spot on! Lovely setting and felt like family.
I took my bestfriend out to celebrate her birthday. Everything was amazing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Good food reasonable prices.
Waiter tried to have us select pricier choice.
Absolutely great experience at Osteria da Nino, the restaurant was buys and short staffed so teh owner stepped in and helped take care of us. Albeit busy, service was still fast and efficient. Food was absolutely delicious and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend!
Food and service were excellent. If you find yourself in Shirlington definitely give Nino’s a try. You will not be disappointed.
Consistently delicious Southern Italian dishes and always something new on the menu or in the kitchen. Friday nights, even with reservations, there can be a wait (ours was 12 minutes over reservation time) but the food is worth the wait. We go there about once a month and it is always delightful. You may want to try it during the week when it's not so crowded if waiting is an issue for you.
Even though a large number of unexpected patrons showed up, our reservation was honored expeditiously, we were served promptly and the food was, as usual, very good
Not sure if I’m being fair, but our experience was overall negative. We showed up on time for our reservation and noticed several others waiting. No host on duty. After several minutes the other patrons informed us the restaurant was short staffed and Manager was trying to seat people. Noticed several tables looking around for someone to take their orders. Manager finally told us we would have to wait 15-20 mins for a table. We left. Probably just a really bad night Friday and 3 staff called in sick we we told. We’ll try again some other time...maybe.
