Osteria da Nino
This was one of those special 3-course menus, with plenty of choices. Everything was so good!
I really love this place. We went for Valentine's Day. They had live entertainment and a special menu. The foot was outstanding and the wine, as always, was amazing.
We ate from the Valentines Day pre-fix menu. All but the sheep’s ricotta cannoli were amazing. The latter was so-so at best. The price of the menu would be for special occasions only.
Warm, inviting atmosphere. Service was excellent - just the right amount of trips to the table by our server. The food was delicious and well-presented. We did not feel rushed or pressured to hurry through our meal. We will be back!
My wife and I dined on a Friday night. Pros: The octopus; the deviled eggs; the service; and the wine list (had the Russian River Pinot). Cons: the shrimp; the gluten-free pasta. Tip to management: you might want to try GF pasta that combines different grains; it can make a big difference.
Was a little underwhelmed with the food. The service was not as prompt as it could have been. For the value, there are plenty of other Italian options.
We went here for dinner prior to seeing a movie. The food was delicious, service was superb and ambiance was great. I will definitely be going back.
Love this place. Great value, quiet so you can actually talk, adequate space between tables, great service, lovely food. They make excellent risotto and I had the mushroom with truffle oil. Very rich and I had leftovers, too! Our new favorite place.
Lovely Italian, tucked away around the corner from the main Shirlington street. Well worth visiting.
Delicious Italian food with Sicilian influences. Excellent service. Great atmosphere.
We always feel we are back in Italy when we done here. The staff is friendly, the food wonderful and, most importantly, the espresso is perfect.
Food was adequate but by no means genuine Italian. Carbonara sauce tasted like it was poured out of a jar. It wasn't very busy and service was slower than I would have expected.
Although the service was excellent both my dish and my friend's were mediocre at best. We could not detect Marsala in the chicken marsala, overall it was quite bland. Unfortunately my dish was quite bland as well, pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe was also disappointing. If these were Italian dishes in a run of the mill restaurant that did not specialize in Italian food, I would say it was just ok. In Arlington at Osteria is very disappointing. Once dish could be a fluke, or perhaps the customer not appreciating the dish and flavors, but two dishes that I see as bland is a confirmation that its just not good. Bottom line, I would not recommend the food in this restaurant.
Love this place! Very authentic and superb hospitality!
Very good food and polite service. We were unable to complete out meal in time to make theater curtain, in spite of reminding server of this several times. Disappointing.
Very pleased with our choice to visit pre-theatre. On this visit, we chose from the restaurant week menu which was understandably limited, but very good options. Carpaccio and Arancini were our choices for appetizers and they were both excellent. Service was very attentive, yet relaxed and the noise level was pleasingly quiet despite a full dining room and a wine dinner going on in the private room. Our entrees were the Chicken Marsala (despite the menu saying only the Piccata was being offered for restaurant week - very nice, thanks!) and Veal Ossobuco (small extra charge well worth it) over Saffron Risotto. Both delicious and nice portions. A beautiful Barolo was exceptional and pleasingly an older vintage which is becoming a rarity in many restaurants. I know it is hard to keep online wine lists up to date, but I always check not only the food menu, but also the wine menu before making a dining choice. Osteria da Nina has a fine wine list, however though I checked the online list hours before our arrival, my first 5 choices were no longer on the list. This is a small observation, not really a harsh criticism, inasmuch I was able to find a beautiful wine to go with the wonderful food. WE will return often. Thanks so much for a wonderful evening!
Great food and great atmosphere the price was excellent
Food was awesome and service was excellent! Will definitely be back
Had an amazing dinner yet again! The service is wonderful and the food is fantastic.
Osteria da Nino is still our favorite restaurant. The food is always top notch, and the atmosphere extremely friendly. It's a perfect place for a date because the music is turned down and the conversation is easy....especially when the friendly owner stops by.
Very good Italian Restaurant. Authentic food with a good selection. Excellent Italian wines at reasonable prices. Attentive service.
This is a lovely restaurant in Shirlington. Every time we go we wonder why we do not go there more often. The staff is always very welcoming, the food is fresh and delicious. We went for restaurant week brunch and enjoyed the menu. I think we forget about it because it is a bit hidden in an office building first floor. Give it a try.
We could see the owner and his wife were working so hard to make sure that customers were taken care of. The wait staff, however, was inattentive to the point of being dismissive and not particularly polite.
The food was excellent.
Good menu. Excellent food. Nice staff. Friendly owner.
Nino is always there, paying attention to your meal and your experience. Tremendous authentic Sicilian and Italian food. Delicious and special.
Our group of five had great food and excellent service. The food was freshly prepared and seasoned very well.
This was the second time we’ve eaten there and find the restaurant so inviting! The owner welcomes you as if you were in his own home. The food is delicious with so many choices that it’s hard to decide on everything from appetizers to desserts.
I have been here for a special birthday and also with a group and had a great experience both times. The owner and host, a friendly and knowledgeable native of Italy, makes sure everyone feels welcome and receives good service. Everyone with me has enjoyed the food (we tried lots of dishes) and one friend told me she comes several times a year for work lunches and family occasions because it is so consistently good. It’s also a relief to eat somewhere quiet enough to be able to hear each other speak. I look forward to coming back!
As usual, everything was excellent.
Had a great meal with friends during Restaurant Week. Unusually large number of unique appetizers and entrees to choose from. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selections as well as the inventive deserts. Great wines as well. And, as always, Nino came over a couple of times to ensure that we were happy with the service and food selections.
We were disappointed when we couldn't get into the Carlyle before a theater performance. We were so pleasantly surprised with Osteria da Nino. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The ambiance was wonderful. This is truly a hidden gem. We are so glad that we came here.
Fantastic food....will definitely be back!
Went for lunch time during the week. Not rushed dining experience. Elegant. Owner was very hands on and professional. Even served our entrees and cleared plates. Would recommend.
Despite our reservation confirmation, the owner insisted that there were no such reservation and that the wait is about an hour; although the app has openings within 15; 30 and 45 minutes. I even showed him the confirmation! He could have apologized and be nice at least. He was so rude and the food wasn’t worth the patronage! The squid fettuccine was bland no salt, the seafood overlooked; lobster ravioli was tasteless.
The dessert is what saved the night. The cannoli and the pistachio creme brûlée was tasty.
Fantastic service. Our second year at ODN for NYE. They never disappoint!
Dined for Sunday brunch. Food was excellent, truly tasty. Menu is extensive and inviting, makes choosing difficult. Wine list is extensive. Service was attentive. Owner visited each table, chatted cheerfully, charmed us with his hospitality. Eager to return for dinner.
The food, as usual, was outstanding. My wife and I tried two of the special entrees—lobster ravioli and risotto with salmon—and they were delicious. We also enjoyed our salads, calamari appetizer and desserts of tiramisu and gelato trio. Unfortunately, the service was off on this occasion. Our server clearly had a problem remembering what we had ordered. Twice he returned to our table to check on what we had ordered and once when he did not the wrong dessert was delivered to our table. We love this restaurant’s food and location, but for the prices charged we expect better service.
Love this place and the owner! Authentic and charming!
Tuesday night was crowded and we lost our server a couple of times, but the beet salad and branzino convinced us to go back. Sunday night found a smaller crowd and more consistent service. Arancini were meaty and delicious, fried oysters were light and tasty, but the branzino was less impressive, being slightly overcooked and missing its watermelon radishes. Still, a nice place, fair prices and good food.
Great food, and the service was excellent!
