A friend and I were in town for the week on business and booked a dinner reservation after searching for an Italian Restaurant on line. When we arrived we were seated immediately but the initial greeting from our server was slow. My friend ordered a cappelinni dish and I ordered spaghetti with marinara sauce. We also ordered drinks. Our drinks were good but our meals were terrible. My friend sent her dish back immediately because the prosciutto smelled spoiled and the dish was unappetizing. She then ordered what I had. We both agreed that the pasta was dry and the marinara sauce just okay. We ate them because we were starving since we had not eaten since early morning. We decided to try a dessert since we were still hungry. We were pleasantly surprised with the tiramisu and lemon pie which at least somewhat redeemed the evening. The server was pleasant and did replace the meal without hesitation.
We have visited Santa Fe at least 15 times over the years and eaten at many restaurants, and Osteria D'Assisi is the best restaurant of all. The appetizers, entrees, desserts, and wine are superb. The prices are reasonable, even the Barolo wine we had. My wife had shrimp and polenta for an appetizer, and I had cream of mushroom soup. We split the lasagna, leaving room for gelato semifreddo for dessert. Lourdes was the server and she was excellent.
Their house-made fresh pasta is excellent. I ordered the spinach fettuccine Carolina, with sun dried tomatoes and spinach in a light cream sauce. I'm not a fan of pasta but this was excellent and would order it again.
The noise rating came largely from a very loud family party at the next table, so take it with a decibel of salt. (They also couldn't seem to sit still and were constantly squeezing past my chair as they changed seats with ridiculous frequency for no discernable reason... but that's not at all the fault of the restaurant.) Our reservation had specified outdoor seating, but rain and a flash flood warning resulted in the management having to close the patio. They did a great job of accommodating us, and we were seated comfortably inside next to multiple windows.
The Italian chocolate cake was the star of the meal. Extraordinary. The Minstrone and Caesar salad starters were meh. The main courses were quite tasty, but not exceptional (The Gamberi alla Penne Vodka and the Torre di Pisa). The service was attentive and responsive, but not overbearing.
I have to make one really odd comment that's not specifically pertinent to the meal. In the men's room, there was a plaque/sticker at face level above the urinal saying something to the effect that this Kohler waterless urinal had been installed by the management because they care about the environment. It stated that the waterless fixture would save 40,000 gallons of water a year. I noticed a flush handle on the fixture, which seemed out-of-place for a waterless device. I then noticed that the urinal was actually an American Standard brand. The management should really either take down the plaque/sticker or really install a water-saving device to avoid seeming disingenuous about their concern for the environment and water usage.
Caesar Salad was dry. Server changed the salad to Caprese salad but that also was a disappointment. Pasta Entree was dry. The service was good but I will not recommend this restaurant any more. Had the feeling there has been a change in the kitchen. I used to think this was one of the best Italian restaurants in Santa Fe. No longer.
The live entertainment was little more than background music.
We were on vacation from Colorado, and wanted to try something new. We were extremely happy with our service, our meals were incredible, and the whole experience is truly memorable.
Nice bar area, friendly service. Food was good, not excellent. Served us bread which was not fresh.
We had a wonderful family meal. Food and service were wonderful. Loved the piccata!
Always been impressed here. Not this time: We ordered a seared tuna dish and emphasized to the waiter we wanted it very red - and it arrived well done. A 10% discount does not fix the problem, does it?
Vincent, our waiter, was terrific. The food, not so much. Very bland with no personality.
Great live music on the day we went. Excellent food eaten outside.
OMG! This place is amazing! The food was delicious. Service magnificent. Ambiance is nice.
We ate here upon recommendation from my wife who ate there for a conference meal. My MIL has crazy food allergies which are life-threatening. Many places won’t accommodate allergies. The server (Jenn) was compassionate, listened, and checked with the head chef to ensure meals were safe. Because the food is made fresh, it was really easy to accommodate.
For my meal, I ordered the shrimp and lobster ravioli. All o their pasta is made fresh and wow! Delicious. I was a bit afraid at first because lobster can often be tough and fishy. It exceeded my expectations in every way. Soft, delicate, meaty, and deliciously flavored with a cognac infused red sauce.
My MIL ordered the pork special. It came perfectly prepared and seasoned. Melt in your mouth tender.
Then there was dessert. The lemon meringue pie is a mist have
. They make it in house and is the best I’ve ever tasted. Flaky crust, perfect meringue, and lemon custard with the just the right sweet vs tart.
I cannot recommend Osteria highly enough! This place is a winner and won’t disappoint.
Get together with cousins from CA and CT and celebrating 70th and 80th birthdays. Fabulous dinner.
Thus was my 3rd time to eat at Osteria. It is one of my favorites. I have just bought a vacation home here and will include this restaurants in my list of “ best things to do in Santa Fe”!
Really enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying some wonderful, authentic pizza...it came recommended by a friend, and I’m happy to say we’re happy we listened. Walking distance from downtown & the Drury Hotel. Reasonable prices.
Celebrated our anniversary - decorations on the table and complimentary champagne. Very sweet! Delicious food, great service.
Guy that seated us was rude to put it nicely- “ Just sit Over there” took over 20 minutes for waitress to bring water and there were only about 6 occupied tables. Took another 15 to get a cocktail. Wife’s entree was fishy ( lobster & shrimp ravioli)which they did take off our tab. Waitress was friendly but pretty much clueless bringing salad and apps at the same time. We always eat here when visiting Santa Fe but this was probably the worst meal we’ve ever had. My veal was tough, over cooked, and sauce was cold. Very disappointed in the evening.
Lovely outdoor seating. Good cold and unappetizing. Service mediocre. Disappointing Father’s Day evening
Good food @ a good price. Their happy hour is one of the best!😊
Excellent wait staff and food. Not a place to go for a quick dinner. This is a dining experience. Very European in feel. Always enjoy and evening here.
We sat on the patio and enjoyed the ambience, service and music. Our food was fabulous! Definitely going back on our next trip to Santa
We had not been here in some time and thought to try it again, meeting friends. The menu looked good. We both had veal ravioli with a mushroom cream sauce. The ravioli were like cardboard (undercooked and not in a good way) and the sauce was watery. The dish was not well seasoned, though the mushrooms were good. The bread (while flour baguette) was dried out. We had a bottle of fume blanc (US) and one of aglianico (Italian). Neither was a good value. Too bad restaurants have their wines so overpriced--$45 for a bottle that retails for about $11.
Nice menu, great food. We had a new waitress who did a great job!
Food was not even adequate my wife's pasta was pasty and not edible and my veal was way over cooked and tough go figure
I dine here every overnight stay I Sante Fe. One of our ALL TIME favorite restaurants.
The restaurant was absolutely delightful. Wonderful dining, delicious Italian dishes and enjoyable guitar music. We would recommend this restaurant highly. Also, it was casual and a
great outdoor patio for dining. LitieS
Out with my wife for music and a meal. Fabulous food great music from Vincent Coppola.
Excellent Italian food in a lovely setting. Try the lobster ravioli or the carbonara.
Great dining experience. The food was good, not exceptional. Overall, a B rating.
Fabulous food and specialty drinks. Authentic Italian and very fresh
Brittany was the right combination of helpful and prompt
Will come back next visit.
Good Italian cuisine. Food quality was excellent. Service was good, enjoyable; but forgot one of our appetizers. Busy night
Mediocre food. Many menu items unavailable. Restaurant needs to make some changes.
This was our second visit and we enjoyed it very much. The bruschetta appetizer was excellent, and the seafood pasta as well.
We have been to Osteria a number of times. Up until this time we have all had good meals. This time we had some confusion between us and our server who announced a pasta special as pesto. It had a pesto drizzle. A dessert which sounded like strawberry cream cake was strawberries and whip cream cup. One diner noted her Brussels sprouts had not been cooked. She also needed a steak knife to cut her chicken. This is not what I expect here and for the price, was disappointed.
We always enjoy this restaurant. We've been coming for years.
Business dinner for 11. Stressed the staff a bit with a large party, but they came through with excellent service. Food was fantastic beginning to end. Everyone in the party was extremely pleased. Thank you.
As always just a great overall dining experience. The food and the service were excellent and honestly this place has become my favorite restaurant!
great ambience, service, food! A lovely place for a lovely evening with a close friend.
