Osteria al Doge
Lovely restaurant, always a good choice. Great brunch and non brunch choices, service is excellent.
The Venetian style of Italian is a unique dining experience. The possible choices were numerous. The food was fantastic. My wife had Risotto and I had the Penne in béchamel. We ate their on our last night in New York. If I had ate there the first night...we would definitely ate there again. If your looking for quiet and ambiance...great choice.
Great food and service
I would come here again I went on a date so it was perfect setting.
We have eaten here several times. This was the first time I felt we had an indifferent at best waiter. She was rude at times, going so far as to school us in what we should ask for, and how ridiculous our food allergies were for an Italian restaurant, and condescending at others. I am so sad about this because I have always really enjoyed the restaurant but I do not think we are likely to return.
Food was very good as well as the service.
Osteria al Doge never lets us down. Wonderful food, great service and since we are usually on the way to the theater, we have never been late to a show!
Always reliable for good food and service. A good location.
We enjoyed the food, the wine list was good and the environment pleasant. The only disappointment was the after-dinner grappa, which was not up to the standard of everything else.
The occasion was my mother’s 90th birthday celebration. My dishes were very good; I had the soft shell crab appetizer and the mixed grilled seafood entree, with a ‘fair’ tiro misu dessert. My mother’s veal scallopini was somewhat over cooked and tough. The restaurant was quite accommodating and provided the requisite candle and staff sang Happy Birthday to my mother- which elicited a smile even though she was disappointed in her main course.
Great, consistent restaurant for ore theatre. Always our go to place.
Food not as fabulous as I remembered. Good
I have been relying on Osteria for pre-theatre for over 20 years, and it never fails. The service is always excellent, the food is dependable and I would come just for the breadsticks. But you can't beat the location, and they know how to get people out on time for the show.
Lovely atmosphere for a pre-theater dinner … as the evening wore
on the noise level grew but it was a nice sound of happy and busy people.
I would come back again and again.
Fabulous experience! The first thing they asked was what time our show was. They treated us like royalty to get us to the show on time. Coffee was fantastic!
Value isn’t there. Food is below average. It’s a trap for theatre district tourists.
Food was good but was overpriced. Portions were small.
I had heard good things about the restaturant and was excited to try before attending the theatre. The decor was lovely and the service staff very attentive, however, the food lacked flavor and was fair at best.
I ordered pasta e fagioli, which for some reason had no pasta ( menu item needs a name change). The soup consisted of fagioli cooked in chicken broth with no onions, garlic, herbs or tomatoes for flavoring.
For the main course i ordered the risotto con gamberi, which instead of being creamy and thick with risotto al dente, was an overcooked risotto served in a tomato soup with a few small shrimp as garnished.
I do not know if the restaurant had a new chef today, but based on this meal I won’t return.
Food was good, service attentive and they are extremely mindful of theatre starting times. Meal was a bit fast paced but otherwise quite good.
GREAT FIND just off Timed Square. Great food. Value prices. Excellent service.
Our meals were amazing! Staff was great! The manager on duty was a bit arrogant and seemed eager to hasten everyone out when it started raining...I guess he felt he could close early if no one was in the restaurant (LOL).
My wife and I enjoyed the dinner very much. The food is good, the service is excellent, and we even enjoyed talking to our next table!
I would recommend but not for a Saturday evening. Way too crowded and tables too close together.
We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. The service is good , everyone is very nice and the food is excellent.
Had lunch prior to a show. Food was very good and service was excellent. Location is perfect for Broadway theater goers.
Only 1 complaint and this is about reserving on Opentable. Opentable indicated there were only reservations available at 7:45 pm when I had asked for 6:00 pm. When we arrived early there were many empty tables. You almost have to call the restaurant directly to find if there really aren't spaces available.
Great pre-theater restaurant. I am always amazed that they can get everyone in and out so quickly.
Absolutely love this restaurant! Our Go-To!
We have been to this restaurant quite a few times. After being asked if we were attending a performance, I told the server we were not so no need to a rush.nce. However, she still made us feel rushed.
When I went to pay, they would not accept my gift card because it did not have a chip and I was forced to use a credit card which...does not have a chip! Not sure why that happened.
Good Italian. The salmon was well prepared; the seafood pasta was fine/ok; and the ravioli was excellent. Great service, very attentive from start to finish. They can serve quite quickly for a pre-theater meal.
Our server was not knowledgeable about the food items on the menu with regards to allergens. Also he wasn’t very friendly.
The atmosphere was great and the food was a bit better than average. This was my 2nd visit and I brought family this time. I was disappointed in the overall experience. My family will not return although I’ll try one more time.
The soup of the day was a puree without cream that was great. Two of us had the veal scallopini, which was very good. My husband had the lasagna, which was just OK. They filled the wine glasses high, which was also nice. Very close to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, so we went there in between Parts One and Two.
Food was just ok. Ordered a steak with “garlic mashed potatoes” instead I received a steak with 3 French fries. Steak was tough, not seasoned well. Side of spinach, no seasoning. Ordered a drink with coconut rum and was told you do not carry that. Ambiance was lovely and timeliness of being seated was exceptional.
This restaurant is reliably good. The selections are creative and beautifully presented. The wait staff is attentive, but not so much as to be overly so. They are cognizant of theatre times, and will even remind you if you need to get an order in to allow proper preparation. We received a recommendation for Osteria al Doge many years ago, and it has NEVER disappointed!
Overall we had a very good experience. Fresh food
Nice salads. I had the salad with shrimp and beets. Large shrimp. Very fresh. Mushroom soup lacked flavor. Zucchini flowers were deep fried and we didn’t know. Calves liver was surprisingly excellent and so was the buffalo mozzarella salad. We made our matinee in plenty of time.
Osteria al Doge was very crowded even for lunch. The tables were very close and the noise level quite loud. We were served a generous bread basket and water shortly after being seated and ordered a glass of wine. The menu was varied and interesting. There was a nice amount of time before our Apps were delivered. I had grilled octopus on a bed of greens which was very flavorful. My husband had a generous portion of mozzarella and prosciutto which was likewise generous and delicious.
However, our entrees arrived immediately after our Apps which was too soon despite having asked for them to take their time. Yet, the food was delectable. I had Fruitti de Mari over linguine with a delicate sauce and included a generous amount of seafood. All was tender and not overcooked. My husband ordered the lamb over spinach pasta which was quite unique and tasty.
After several minutes we had to flag down our server to order two double espressos and shared a ricotta cheesecake. The cheesecake was very disappointing since it was a small ramekin size consisting of mostly graham cracker crust, little cheese and topped with whipped cream and blackberries. In addition, it tasted old like it was in the frig too long. It was definitely over-priced at $12.
Unfortunately, Osteria al Doge has uneven and inconsistent service with the server not being attentive or very friendly. It was also very loud making conversation difficult. We may return for the good Apps and entrees, yet there are many other Italian restaurants in NYC with both great food and service to need to rush back here.
Food and service is great -- perfect for pre-theater. Very noisy, like most pre-theater restaurants.
We decided on this restaurant early in the afternoon. We were able to book a reservation for that evening. We were there at the beginning of the dinner hour (5:30). Restaurant was quiet at this time. By the time we left it was full and very noisy, so if you want quieter dining, earlier is better. All out food was fantastic and service was stellar!!
All in all a good experience... the staff were not overly friendly, but they did know their jobs.
This restaurant is very consistent and it is an excellent place to go if you’re going to the theater. The food is very nice, is served hot and is presented well. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent.
I went with family after seeing a play. The food was really good and the price was reasonable for eating in New York City. The service was great. I recommend this restaurant who will be in the Theater District.
