About Osteria 177
Osteria 177 is the ultimate expression of an Italian tavern where the main attraction is imported delicacies of one-of-a-kind food and wine. Adorned by barreled wine, an Osteria would never lack the sought out local specialties, spices, cheeses, fish or meats. It was here that many people tried to alleviate life's stresses by numbering themselves with good food, good wine, and good company. The owner/chef of the Osteria would take the utmost pride in stocking these praised elements as the basis for mouthwatering meals, a delicious dance-for-all of the five senses. This is the basis for Osteria 177.

Osteria 177 Ratings and Reviews
First time trying The Osteria and disappointed is the best I can say. Positives: The food was well prepared, attractively presented and tasted okay - not spectacular. For the prices, I expected better. Our waiter was very attentive until a regular customer came in, at which time it was like we were 2nd class, and ignored. That alone put a damper on the night. Did not bother staying for coffee or dessert, which is something we would normally do. It came down to a regular customer who obviously was spending more money or my husband and I. Too bad for them, they lost a potential good customer. Plenty of other places in Annapolis where the food is good and the people are warm and friendly.
Had the sea bass special, priced at $38...server suggested having it on risotto...agreed, presented without the special garnish, was supposed to be with wilted greens, golden raisins and pinenuts...just fish on mushroom risotto, dinged me a $17 upcharge, server did not inform....poor form...
We have dined at this restaurant frequently since moving to Annapolis in 2009. In the past we had enjoyed eating there. We dined there again for dinner on February 14 this year and several changes have occurred since our initial discovery of Osteria 177.
The first thing we noticed is that the prices have increased significantly. This isn't surprising for a successful restaurant but the increases are unfortunately not warranted. I ordered a Cesar salad that was anything but. It had a bland olive oil dressing oil and a smattering of parmesan cheese on it but no Cesar dressing! I couldn't finish it. When I complained to the waiter, who barely had time to revisit our table after serving us, he said he would bring me another as he walked away from us. I told him not to bother. I expected it to be comped but I was charged for the salad though it certainly was inedible.
My wife's branzino was swimming in a creamy sauce that obscured the flavor of this ordinarily wonderful fish. She couldn't finish it. I will say that my Pesce Spada (swordfish sauteed in bread crumbs, parmesan cheese and garlic) was delicious. The serving was relatively small, however, but tasty.
When the bill arrived, I thought I had been transported to Manhattan! We had ordered a bottle of wine ($70) but the bill was $160! We had ordered only the salad I couldn’t eat and two entrees (one of which was not edible) plus the wine. Most of the entrees were quite overpriced, especially considering the size of the servings.
Throughout the time we spent there, the wait staff was too sparse to serve adequately. They always appeared rushed. Our waiter spent minimal time taking our order before he dashed hurriedly away.
This had been a wonderful restaurant and perhaps we caught them on a bad night but I really didn't think the service and the food preparation warranted the prices. We won't return.
As always, the food and service were exceptional. I usually eat seafood but other dishes are great as well. If you like calamari, and I love it, you'll really enjoy their grilled--NOT fried--calamari. I've told the story a few times of how, after a wonderful meal there, I ordered as a dessert another order of their grilled calamari. Calamari lovers will understand. Others, perhaps not so much. But all the dishes I've had were worth coming back for more. And one fish dish (branzino, I think) comes with special attention. The waiter debones it at your table. Very nice ambiance inside, not loud. And just up the street from the waterfront. It's a destination restaurant for my wife and me.
Food was delish. However when I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with shrimp and clams I expected to have more than 1 shrimp and 2 clams. Waiter seemed to rush us. As it was a special occasion, we wished to dine and take our time. Tables are extremely close. I recommend their sister restaurant in Glen Burnie, which was much better.
Overall a great dining experience - delicious! Price for a glass of Champagne is way over-priced. The server was good, but disappointed when I asked him what were the main ingredients in the after dinner drinks which included a list of about 10 cordials/ liqueurs and he only knew about 2 or three, and nothing about the others; so I asked him to find out and he comes back saying "the rest are all different levels of intensities of herbs" - didn't even attempt to get the information I was looking for which was WHICH specific herbs comprise each one.
The food was truly delicious and beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner for our son's 27th birthday and the service was very good. I did feel like the staff tries to sell you up and the prices are high so be prepared before you go for a luxury-priced meal. For three people with one bottle of wine ($60) and two bottles of water including tip, $275
Osteria 177 is one of the best Annapolis has to offer. Our food was delicious, imaginative and well presented. Our waiter was knowledgable, gracious and friendly. The ambience, especially the art, is to my taste. It was expensive, but it was my daughter's birthday and it was worth it.
Wonderful Meal at Osteria 177. Enjoyed the tuna appetizer and not-to-be-missed lasagna.
Osteria 177 has a unique take on lasagna that makes it hearty and delicious. The risotto and scallops entree was perfectly prepared. The hazelnut mousse and salted caramel ice cream was divine. Can't wait to return. Be prepared to be patient as the number of customers can, at times, challenge the wait staff to keep up. Kudos to the truly excellent hostess who worked on Wednesday night. She made us feel welcome.
Osteria was on the top of our list for Fine dining in Annapolis, we were disappointed in lack of valet service, lack of attention from Wait staff and when our entree arrived , we were never asked if we wanted to order wine with dinner.. we are not sure if we will return to Osteria.
As always I had a terrific dinner at Osterio in Annapolis. I have lived in Annapolis for 4 years and it is by far the best restaurant. The food is always fresh and dependable. The wine list is perfect. Would recommend it highly and I can't wait to go again.
