Osso Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
My husband had a steak and said it was the best he's ever had. On recommendation from our waiter, I ordered the whole crab instead of a half. The crab was huge so it was way too much for me! It was good but not the best Ive had. I ended up having it boxed and giving it to a homeless person. Regarding the appetizer - sizzling shrimp was a bit too salty and beet salad had too sweet of a dressing for me. For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse - it was really just chocolate pudding. The ambiance was very nice and our waiter was great.
Osso makes great steaks. Period. Great. And the decor/atmosphere (art deco) is also very cool. Unfortunately our very good meal suffered at the hands of an inexperienced (or just plain lousy) waiter. We brought a special bottle of wine and when I mentioned the Vintner he rolled his eyes and said "Never heard of it"; could almost hear his thoughts about losing margin on his tip vs. us ordering an overpriced house cab. Ran through the specials/recommendations like he was bored, poured our first glass of wine but never did it again, said "I'll be right back with some water" and never brought any, rarely checked in and when he did his timing (mid-bite) was awful. Brought our check before he brought our dessert (place was half full so no reason for the rush). Sorry your dotcom didn't get funding hipster dude but consider returning to Ohio instead of taking the waiter job at Osso. You're ruining it for everyone.
We usually eat at Osso steakhouse every four months and have been doing so for three years. We thought that since it was so warm, Osso would be a nice way to avoid cooking on Sunday. Unfortunately, Osso was warmer inside than outside and this made for our first ever unpleasant dining experience at Osso. Nevertheless, Osso steakhouse is still our favorite steakhouse in the entire Bay Area.
This is not our first time at Osso. I gave a overall rating of poor as we were at Osso on one of the hottest days of the year and they had no air conditioning!!! I called the day before and asked about the AC. They said they had it. When we arrived they said it just started working again, obviously not. Also, the waiter we had was not very attentive.
Warm welcome - attentive service throughout - bread was warm and crisply, this is so basic and yet so many eateries neglect that nowadays; yellowtail carpaccio very evenly and thinly sliced and appropriately seasoned - quite an appetite booster; a bit quaint to offer guests a plastic apron for the presentation of the main dishes; loved the flexibility of having an entree with half/whole crab; the bone-in filet was amazing, juicy and succulent; the asparagus baked with pumpkin seeds and cheese was also good; the grilled Dungeness crab was so delicious that one felt obliged to forego table manners; unfortunately had to give up desserts, yet couldn't resist a liqueur coffee (again a range of choices provided). $162 (excluding gratuity) was indeed quite reasonable for this unique dining experience.
Excellent steaks, but service does not match. We have been here twice in two weeks. There is something out of sinc with service here. It is an expensive Steakhouse with top notch steaks and it would be worthy of 5 stars, if they could get the service straightened out.
We both had petite fillet mignon and they were absolutely delicious. It was the best steak that I've ever had. My only criticism of our meal would be the amount of grease in the side dishes. We had the kettle bread, brussels sprouts, and potatoes. All of these dishes would be as good, if not better, if they were a little less greasy.
Food is very good - main course portions are large, sides a little smaller. The bone-in ribeye is described on the menu as "(Big)" - that's a lie - it should say "(Huge)"- it's about 40 oz. really good, cooked perfectly. I go to Osso every time I am in SF. Not cheap, but worth it.
Visited with my husband. Amazing food. We had the cheese and chorizo bread to start with. This was delicious. Never had anything like it before. I had an excellent blood orange margarita complete with salt rim. We both had the petite filet mignon which was perfect. Service was excellent.
Great choice for steak & dungeness crab. Food was great; however service and attention to detail were definitely lacking for what you pay. The server did not seem to know the menu well and we had to ask for some things twice. Just not at the professional level that you expect when paying several hundreds of $$$ (without wine!).
Whenever we're in San Francisco we dine at Osso. It's become our favorite fine dining destination. The food is excellent. On this occasion my wife had abalone and I had a bone-in filet. On prior visits it's always fish for her and beef for me, there are numerous choices of both. The atmosphere is welcoming and suitable for both business and pleasure. We love the tables for two which have the most comfortable high-back chairs. Our favorite server is Khalid. Very professional and attentive. He made our anniversary evening very special!
