Chef Bush is focused on his new world style of cuisine and presents a menu that appeals to the entire scope of one's palate. Items such as fresh raw oysters, farm to table California vegetables, local fish and meat. OSO looks forward to your visit.
I took my granddaughter for dinner on Friday night. We were both treated like adults and valued diners.
Preparation and presentation were imaginative and portions were perfect. Mongolian beef was accompanied by a well seasoned sauce. We shall return!
We really wanted to try to like this restaurant but it fell short almost everywhere. We walked in to an empty restaurant and a few people at the bar. The place looks sort of polished (imagine a dive bar remodeled with reclaimed wood and some artsy items on the walls). We were greeted by the hostess asking if we had a reservation then were sat at the smallest table in the empty place. I get it, we had 2 in our party so we should be seated at a 2 top but why not at least ask if we'd like a larger table or even offer anywhere we'd like in the completely empty restaurant... that started off the dinner on a strange foot. Then we ordered a couple of apps and beers to get started. Our server was polite and did a fine job however the restaurant just didn't feel comfortable. 4 of 6 oysters was fresh, 2 horrible. Deviled eggs with crab was okay. Patatas bravas was just a plate of lightly seasoned mushy potatoes with a heavy sauce. Left for a better experience.
Table to small for 5 adults. Otherwise great
The wine list is overpriced, and not that special. The food was too salty. Nice ambience and great location, though.
Great place. Loved the short rib tacos and my husband had the mussels they we amazing. Perfect portions. Service was great. Def recommend.
Food and service is always great. Consistent, warm casual place to grab dinner. We especially enjoy during the week as it is less crowded and more of a local crowd.
Two of our dishes were too spicy for my taste.
I usually like Oso but somehow this time it did not deliver for me except for the oysters.
This restaurant is a local find. The food is creative, yet familiar. For example, the deviled eggs are creamy and beautifully seasoned but also have a smattering of crab on top. The salmon toast is divine, a sandwich actually, with cheese and arugula and avocado and fried capers. The oysters were fresh and the mignonette was innovative. I keep wanting to try the tacos or the cheeseburger, but I can't get past the appetizers. My husband and I share plates and pretty soon we are full. The only downside to this restaurant (and perhaps the reason it was half empty on a very crowded Sonoma Sunday afternoon) is the inside lighting. There isn't any. It is so dark inside it feels claustrophobic. I would recommend wall lights above each table and perhaps more around the bar.
The food and cocktails here are fantastic! The Korean-style BBQ ribs might be one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!
My favorite restaurant
This may be my 20th review and Oso refuses to disappoint. Enjoyed my three standout preparations with guests from out of town. First is the seasonal said with blue cheese, pecans, apple, pear and greens, and a garlic-based dressing. Awesome. Then the steamed mussels with some pork grease and a lime sauce. Wow. Finally, because it was Wednesday, steak tacos and shrimp tacos. Every bite was an explosion of flavor.
Ordered a bottle of Sangiovese and the feast was complete.
I shall return...
Stumbled in for an early dinner. To our surprise, they had a happy hour menu! Great savings on some of our favorite menu items.
Wow this place was amazing. The food was fantastic and loved the vibe here.
Excellent food! Lovely atmosphere. The bar staff were awesome
the food was very salty.
So, we thought we’d give OSO another try . . . after our last just so-so visit six months ago . . . .
We’ve read about this numerous times on reviews of different restaurants (over the years) although never had it happen to us. We had 8:00 reservations . . . we walked into OSO at 8:03 pm (iPhone time) and they apologized/stated they made a mistake and gave our seat away . . . and that they didn’t have any other availability for at least 20 to 30 minutes.
After we left, and went to our favorite restaurant Café LaHaye (down the street) we noticed a voicemail that came in at exactly 7:50 stating this is OSO Restaurant, we just wanted to confirm you will be here for your 8:00 reservations . . . so, with that being said . . . you can see how they run the front of the house here!!! They probably needed an extra 2 seats for a party of 6 or 8 !!! They should change the name from OSO to SO-SO !!!
Great dinner. Gets s bit loud with big groups.
Delicious. Sat at the bar. Bartender was very attentive, and the food was excellent!
I hadn’t been in awhile, the food was fantastic!
An excellent restaurant. Innovative dishes. Great happy hour. Attentive service
Exceedingly nice service - very welcoming! Salads are always delicious!
When I made my reservation, I noted that my dining experience was for a birthday; however, that occasion was not recognized during any point of my dinner. Our server was hardly attentive to my section. The unfortunate part was there was a table right next to us, and our server checked on them several times and did not bother to take a few seconds to check in with us when she was in our area. We had to flag down other restaurant personnel to assist.
Casual, lively environment with absolutely delicious food & cocktails
Delicious food and great service. Would return!
So hits that perfect note when you’re looking for a casual spot with excellent food. Our server was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and fun. Food was excellent and This place was a highlight in our 4 days in Sonoma. Loved everything about it
Pleasant atmosphere. Shrimp tacos were a little too spicy for me but beef rib tacos were delicious.
Very good food that was well presented. We were offered outside seating. Sorry we took them up on this. We were taken to a small porch overlooking a somewhat messy very small yard. The chairs were incredibly uncomfortable. We were bothered by many, many flies.
We may try this restaurant again but not outside.
The food was beyond good! Had to come back the next night for dessert- roasted peaches on pretzel strudel with gelato. Insanely delicious!
David and his staff are very respectful, friendly and nice! The food is amazing, and I will be sure to refer Oso to my friends and family! We work in the restaurant industry and are always willing to try new places and food. Oso by far is one of those restaurants we will be going back to. Thank you David and your staff for making our experience memorable!
We loved Oso . The food was exqusite, the ambience laid back California casual and fun. The wine selection was good and the service was smart, friendly and fun. We had the Hummus with grilled bread, the garlic shrimp with grilled bread, the Korean bbq ribs and the sugar snap peas veggie plate with a bottle of Zinfandel. It was enough for two people. This should be Zavac top 5.
The food was pretty good but the atmosphere was loud and cramped.
Wonderful food and service plus had a great conversation with the chef owner.
Now it’s our number one fave in Sonoma
Yummy tapas-size food. Excellent waitress- helpful and friendly. Place looks like a bar with some tables thrown in. Go outside in back to bathrooms.
Right off of Sonoma Square. Would definitely return.
Great food, excellent service, I sat outside so not a good judge of noise level. Great experience overall.
Great meal, great flavors, cool restaurant, and iconic Sonoma Square location. Parking is the only real issue, but one of reasons that makes the restaurant cool is getting to walk around the Square and see the action of the park and people, and to see the shops, so the parking/walk is worth it.
Fantastic. Super service, delicious food and a great value.
Portion sizes were really good for sharing each dish. Excellent presentations and great flavor for each dish. The baked peaches dessert was outstanding.
New-ish classic on the Plaza in Sonoma. Thoroughly artsy, chic decor, comfortable but romantic date-worthy. Some outdoor seating, good service, great bar/cocktails, thoughtful beer and wine lists, rotating seasonal menu with interesting twists on classics. Must try: Mussels (Thai flavorings... save your bread for dipping); Short Ribs... big, bold, beefy, with creamy polenta and root veggies that soften and add complexity; Meatballs...
Enough said? Reasonably priced as downtown Sonoma eateries go.
Exceptional service and food!
Great energy and atmosphere - the small dishes are great for sharing - a great diversity of selections and everything was delicious! Definitely recommend it and I would go back
