Combination of Asian, Thai, with great service. I would definitely go there again.
Excellent food and service and could actually hold a conversation with the table!
The mouthwatering chicken is fabulous. I also love the sweet and spicy Brussels sprouts. Just the right blend of honey and shiracha finished off with crisp bites of bacon.
I also enjoyed the pork ribs stewed with tofu skins red dates and mushrooms.
Cocktails are fun and service is friendly. This restaurant is my go to place.
This was a first visit for my friend and me. We especially enjoyed the beautifully composed mango salad, as well as the prawns in coconut milk. For dessert, we had the Thai tea-flavored crème brulee, which was delicious and had both a lovely crust and perfect texture. The dishes are generously proportioned for sharing; we ordered a total of four dishes, not including dessert, and took enough home for a lunch. Like so many restaurants, it's a little noisy, so if someone in your party has trouble hearing, be aware.
Favorite restaurant in East Bay.
My second lunch here, and it was as delicious as the first. Fresh ingredients, wonderful flavors, well made. Yum.
Osmanthus has enlarged their menu which is great, because they have retained their creativity also. It is one of our short list choices when we have guests from out of town. Very different flavors, very consistent quality.
Our experience on St Patrick's Day...maybe one of the reasons there was space available...was wonderful. The staff explained how dishes in which we were interested were prepped. We chose three "entrees" which is just about right for two people. Comfortable environment and staff were attentive. The food was fresh, especially the dry fried green beans. The Mo Pa Tofu was prepped with silken tofu and was in a really subtle Szechuan sauce. Ribs were appropriately sticky as well as tasty. The neighborhood has been on the rebound for quite some time and it shows. Safe and attractive.
Always excellent service, food options, drinks, plenty of seating choices - thank you!
Good food, service was a bit inattentive. It would have helped if The server had told us that food was designed to share. Individual items each had one note.
The food was exceptional. Service was exceedingly slow.
delightful place with always good food and service. A real treat to look forward to!
Very attentive service with an enticing menu. Dishes were delicious & presented well. Lively yet good for conversations.
Food is delicious! Portion sizes are actually larger than I expected. Good for family style dining. Only recommendation is try to come with more than 2 people so you can order more dishes to share. Smoked trout fried rice is unique and yummy!
We love, love Osmanthus... this is our favorite spot in the East Bay. They have the most delicious cocktails, great servers, and relatively quick service. The dishes are the star of the show, though, and this is a shared plate style restaurant. Our absolute favorites are the Shanghaid cocktail, the Brussels sprouts, the basa fish and the trout fried rice. Also highly recommend the soft shell crab.
Food was served too fast with the mains arriving before the starters were half done. Felt very rushed and not able to enjoy the distinct tastes of the various dishes. The Thai shrimp was very bland
For a lunch with business associate, we shared a tea eaf salad and a pork noodle dish. Both selections were fine, but fell short of flavorful and authentic. Service was swift and friendly. Besides our lively conversation, the best part was the lychee iced tea! Street parking was convenient.
Had a great Valentine’s Day dinner with Osmanthus.
In the past, I’ve brought my mother. She loved it.
My boyfriend also mentioned, independently, that he hopes to bring his family when they visit from Denmark. It’s that good.
I reccomend the garlic noodles, the snort ribs, the spare ribs, tuna tartare, and shrimp toast.
I love Osmanthus and have since first discovering it. It is a neighborhood gem and so much more. This evening with friends did not disappoint.
They took my reservation on a day when they were closed. They are not open Monday and should not have accepted my reservation.
I’ve really enjoyed Osmanthus in the past but this meal was very bland and even favorite disheslike the tea leaf salad and garlic prawns weren’t up to par. I’ll give them another chance but if this had been my first time there, I wouldn’t go back.
The service was fine.
Excellent tastes. Best eggplant ever.
Ostmanthus is a great option in my neighorhood for a tasty yet healthy and vegetarian cuisine.
I am always happy when I leave Osmanthus. The food is fantastic, the service is great, it is definitely worth the money. It is a place where you order small plates and share. My girlfriends and I shared the brussel sprouts, salmon over purple potato with a curry sauce, short ribs, the dry fried chicken wings (my favorite!!) and the flat iron & arugula salad. It was a wonderful meal paired with a great glass of bubbly rose from Malbec.
The service was unbelievably poor. They forgot our order twice.
Food was delicious! A mix of Burmese, Thai, and Chinese fusion. Service was okay, asked for a few things and they forgot to send the items, and clear off the table.
There were cockroaches on the walls.
Excellent s e Asian fusion food. We had roasted Brussels sprouts, dan dan noodles and bass sea bass. All were delicious, well prepared and promptly served after ordering. Good, good service, reasonable prices. Recommended.
Had dinner with a group of friends at Osmanthus on a Friday night. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. We had a very nice time but felt a bit underwhelmed by the food. It was very good but not great. All plates are family style and meant for sharing. We all had craft cocktails from their creative list and the were fantastic! Overall, I would say it is a great place to grab bite with a great drink. I wouldn't consider it a dinner option.
An tasty and reliable menu with lots of vegetables, some noodle dishes, and plenty of meat options, however it's not very good for the serious gluten avoider. The brussels sprouts and green tea leaf salad are my personal favorites.
Good food at a reasonable price. Tea Salad mixed at the table is a must!
Good experience. Our second time there. Dishes were on point - namely the smoked trout fried rice, garlic noodles, Brussels sprouts, eggplant and tuna tartare. Very flavorful!
Never again. We like to try new restaurants and made arrangements to meet another couple for dinner. The four of us had not gotten together in months and were looking forward to catching up. The reservation was for Saturday at 6:30 and we were there on time. We ordered a bottle of wine, made our food decisions and ordered... all while having fun and enjoying each others' company. The restaurant was fine. The food was fine. The service was fine. At least it was fine until the waitress came to our table at 8pm and told us our table had been reserved for that time. (I'm not sure what was special about that particular table except that it was one of only a few booths in the place.) We were all a little shocked and discussed that none of us had ever been asked to vacate a table at a restaurant. So we paid and left... and we saw NO one waiting inside or outside for a table. This unfortunately, and unnecessarily, put a damper on what had otherwise been a very nice evening with friends. Therefore, none of us will be back. And when others ask for restaurant recommendations this place obviously won't be on the list. In fact, I will tell this story so others can avoid a similar situation.
The portions were perfect, service very good and the food was exquisite. Beautiful decor, too. Great place for a special lunch.
We had a wonderful dinner at Osmanthus. I took my parents and my children (8 & 10) we tried five dishes and four had really excellent flavors. Nice cocktails too. My kids LOVED the brussel sprouts. Our only suggestion is that the owners consider changing the light bulbs from blueish lights to bulbs that feel warmer (like warm-glow LED) in the fixtures next to the tables. We felt it would improve the ambiance. The food and overall experience was great.
Absolutely one of our favorite restaurants in the Bay Area; definitely one of the best on College Ave. Love the trout fried rice, coconut prawns, Brussel sprouts, and peppercorn chicken wings.
I love the food, especially the tuna tartare. I often go for dinner before traveling by air and get the ginger, honey glazed chicken wings. The serving is huge so I have dinner and lunch for my flight the following day. I also love the rose that they offer.
Guests loved the food - especially the mouthwatering chicken salad which we got 2 orders of
The tea salad is good, and that's where "good" stops. The rest of the dishes are average. I got a coconut shrimp dish which was too sweet. But the service is awful. It is reminiscent of arrogant NYC waiters but with none of the pay off---of a really great meal. So many great restaurants have gone out of business on college "Citron" comes to mind. I hope this one is next--they don't have anything that makes it worth it.
loved the schezwan peppercorn chicken. best dish they have.
