Osaka - Lansdale Ratings and Reviews
I was at Osaka for a work lunch and appreciated the calm atmosphere and quiet that allowed for easy conversation. Given the location of this restaurant, I have no idea where they get their prices from. The food is serviceable, but the markup must be huge. We got a full sashimi platter and it was embarrassing. I am coming from the Philadelphia area, so comparing the excellent value and quality there to this sort of suburban eatery might not be the best measure, however the bill for two people was $70 for what was perhaps $35 worth of food and drink. Our server was nice but kept pushing alcohol which was a little odd given the nature of our visit there. There are so many other nearby sushi places with much better prices and quality, so I would not make this a destination unless you really can't get to anywhere else.
We were so excited to bring friends since we had such an incredible experience in March. We went back last night and sadly just had a meh experience. Our server got the drink order wrong and when we sent one back - she didn't take it off the bill (we didn't notice until after we paid and didn't want to deal with it after the fact because we were already frustrated from the meal). There was only one other table occupied in the yakiniku room and it happened to be he owner. He never came over to ask how the meal was. The restaurant was really empty. Which was sad especially for a Saturday night. Our waitress never explained which sauces would be good for each proteins, she didn't tell us how long to cook each item. The ambiance and every detail of the meal we had in March was perfect, sadly last night - it just all seemed thrown together. She kept trying to upcharge us to the Korean BBQ options when we just wanted yakiniku. She got our order for that wrong too and had to go back to the kitchen several times to get what she forgot. Apparently the restaurant closes at 10 on a Saturday and at 10:10 they came over to us to tell us they closed at 10, which is not good business for a Saturday (especially since they have a bar). Just sad that an amazing experience we had in March isn't good anymore since we would've gone again and again. Good points - the sushi was tasty and the hostess was really sweet. But we probably won't go back because this wasn't a good experience and wasn't the fun event we thought it would be again.
I always love Osaka and have had great experiences. Service was mediocre at best this time around. Our waitress seemed to have too many tables to take care of or just wasn't paying attention. I will definitely be back as I love the food and have been there plenty of other times and received good service. Hopefully it was just a one off!
After reserving a table on OpenTable, the hostess called me to ask if we had any dietary restrictions, wanted the main dining room or the Japanese BBQ room, and asked if we would require high chairs or booster seats. Upon arrival, the wait staff and the hostesses were very friendly and engaging without ever being intrusive. They made sure our drinks were always filled and recommended dishes they liked. We had one waitress, but I say 'they' as several other staff made sure we were accommodated as they walked by. The food was very good. We had the Sweet Beef stone bowl with the raw egg (the beef and egg cook in the hot stone bowl). They will walk you through the bowl if you haven't had it before. We also had the seafood udon and a few sushi rolls. All were delivered quickly and were very tasty. Osaka isn't the cheapest Japanese (with a dash of Korean) restaurant around, but they definitely always deliver a quality meal.
My second visit to Osaka. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing The food was delicious, yet a bit pricey The service was what ruined the experience The food arrived too quickly and then our server brought the check while I was in the middle of my entree. I am left opting to visit other restaurants that offer the complete package.
Be warned--they no longer do the standard hibachi style dining with the one chef putting on a show. Now, you get your meat in small pieces that you grill yourself (think Melting Pot). It only took 30-45 seconds per side to cook, so it wasn't like you had to do all the work. Our friends really liked the sushi. The staff got us to try Ton Shi or something like that. We found it a bit chewy. The wasabi mashed potatoes were a bit too sweet for my taste, but still good. The fried ice cream was only ok. I mostly ate the ice cream and left all the crust.
Overall, it was a fun experience, definitely something different, but not a cheap one. After tip, for 4 of us, the bill was close to $200.
Food overall was very good. Only problem we had was service related. We had a child with us. She ordered the chicken teriyaki which was on the kids menu. Server assumed she wanted the adult entree. Never asked. We were charged the full entree price. We also were never told the specials. Food was good but main server needed work.
Osaka is my favorite place to dine.
The sashimi is of high quality and the presentation is the best. I leave the composition to the Shushi chef.
The kitchen lead by Chef Silva and Chef Jason is second to none. I leave the menu to them and have never been disappointed. The new dining room addition, leaves the cooking to you with ingredients and sauces that really excite your pallet. Harrison is more than happy to teach you how to cook the meats and fish and which sauces go well.
So bummed they dropped the bento box for dinner, added an unappealing and expensive rice stone bowl, about $122 for three people and two alcoholic drinks total. Actually charged me $1 for a very small portion of a sauce to put in my rice bowl to give it some flavor. I couldn't believe it! I'm done there, sad because I used to really like it there.
I was extremely disappointed to learn that the the new owner took out the hibachi tables and replaced them with korean bbq tables. If I wanted korean bbq, I would go to a korean bbq restaurant. The only thing you get with the protein is a la carte dipping sauces. There's no way to season the food while cooking. Not even salt and pepper.
My entire family agreed that it wasn't worth returning.
What a shame!
The restaurant is not close to what it was. The hibachi tables are gone even though the pictures in the app don't show you they are gone.
I took 11 people there in Friday night at 745 and had no choice but to stay because where do you take 11 people at that time for a birthday dinner? I spent $570 on food that I cooked myself that wasn't that good. This is false advertising and no one has to be accountable.
The server was great and it wasn't her fault we were mislead.
The owner should be embarrassed as I am sure I am not the first person that got screwed with no other option on a Friday night
The Lansdale location no longer has the Hibachi style dining. As of January 2017 they now have YakiNiku where each table as a small convection grill and you cook your own food. The food was very good but we were disappointed that the hibachi grill was no longer available and that was not very obvious on the website when we made the reservation. I am not a fan of having to cook my own food so this is not for us. When we go out to eat I expect my food to be cooked for me. Good food quality and service but not our cup of tea as far as dining style.
It was a new experience, and a really fun one! I had been to Osaka before when there was hibachi and I wasn't sure how I'd like this new set up, but I'm glad I tried it! The food was really good; I wish there was a chicken option for the yakiniku (so sorry if I'm butchering this) but I understand why there can't be and loved the salmon and shrimp! The fried rice was still amazing, and I loved the different sauce options given for the food! I also loved the mochi and the way it was served was very nice! There was a little bit of a delay getting the food, but it was definitely worth it and I intend on returning many times! Thank you for a great experience and turning an old favorite into a new, fun experience!
Osaka is a Japanese restaurant in name only. The decor is casual American and the entertainment is live bar music. We went because we were looking forward to having sushi or sashimi, the latter a favorite of mine. We were very disappointed as the seafood used lacked firmness, freshness and flavor. At $33 and $35 per entree, which lacked the customer miso soup and/or rice, these were higher prices than we pay in Philadelphia.
Took out of town family for pre thanksgiving meal. First a wine glass was spilled and shattered at our feet. Then the meals were mixed up. The waitress was going to give a half eaten meal from one of my guests to my guest whose order was mixed. There was no offer of apologize in form of free drink, appetizer etc. I was embarrassed
Not the best experience. From the hostess being rather rude when we arrived, to our server forgetting food orders, drinks forgotten and having to go to the bar, twice, to get them, appetizers not showing up and the wrong sushi being served. Not sure if this was an off night but we won't be back.
