Osaka - Chestnut Hill Ratings and Reviews
The food was delicious. I love the Honeymoon Roll. We like to come here -- it doesn't give me a migraine. There is no clattering of silverware to trigger a migraine. While it is not necessarily a quiet place, it is certainly not noisy. Even when it is full, you can talk to your company in a normal voice. The table at the end has some bright bucket lights, but otherwise the lighting is user-friendly. I just don't sit at that table.
We always receive great service, and we enjoy the food. I would recommend this place.
In short, the food was excellent, the staff, not so much. We were given a table for two in a cramped space. It was also a cold location. We immediately asked to change to one of a number of other vacant tables and was told we couldn't because they were "fully booked". Instead, the server offered to put on the heat, which another server turned off a short while later. A little while later another couple came in and asked to have their table changed and their request was honored. The staff here is very "business like"... not much warmth. It's a shame because it took the enjoyment out of what otherwise would have been a great experience.
Food is reliably good, and while I like the sushi my friends often order cooked food (teriyaki and tempura) and are pleased with the quality and variey. Not much ambience, but staff are friendly. Nothing outstanding but as good as any neighborhood Japanese, so if you are in their neighborhood it's worth eating here.
Received horrible service by the hostess. THe hostess told us we needed to wait to sit at the sushi bar and proceeded to sit on her phone while we stood there confused as to why we could not sit when the seats were blaintenly open. Ended up walking out before we were seated.
On Christmas Eve we were in a crunch to find food and Osaka was open and very accommodating to us. The sushi rolls were large and delicious. The shrimp tempura meal was extremely filling and well worth the price. Additionally, the drinks were exactly what we needed on a cold night.
We had dinner on Christmas Eve at Osaka and it was delicious. I do wish this place would up the ambience a bit but I suppose the spare atmosphere is in keeping with the Japanese aesthetic. Our server was delightful. And they have my favorite festive cocktail on the menu, St Germain with Prosecco, called the Lolita here. So not the best atmosphere, but a festive night nonetheless, and a short walk to Christmas Eve mass.
Have eaten here many times and always pleased with food and service. On this occasion (daughter home from college) the host staff made us feel very unwelcome telling us our reservation was listed for 2 not 4. They eventually found us a table for 4 in the bar area.
Everything was lovely and fresh. I was introducing a new friend to Japanese food and we had the most fun ever! The lovely fresh food put us in the best mood and somehow we even made it to see a show in the city, with perfect timing!!! One miracle after another, and we think it was the food! 😇👍🙌✨🎉🙏😂
I've been to Osaka a few times before - but usually during the week. This was my first time going on a Saturday and I did notice a difference in the service quality on a Saturday vs week night. We ordered appetizers and 3 rolls to share. The appetizers came out and the food was out about 3 mins later. Not ideal, but we made it work. When our rolls came out, my friend ordered another drink. 30 mins later - and having not seen our waitress for a while, still no drink. When she finally came speeding by, we stopped her and reminded her of the drink. She apologized for having forgotten and gave my friend half off her drink. The drinks were tasty but not remotely strong enough for friends trying to let their hair down.
We ordered in advance since we were in a rush, and our food was ready for us when we got there. The lunchtime bento boxes are an excellent deal. The food is always delicious! The tempura is always crispy and light, sushi very fresh, and edamame perfectly salted. We always get the hiyashi wakame seaweed salad; that is a don't miss if you like seaweed salad.
