Osaka - Chestnut Hill Ratings and Reviews
Always a favorite. The amberjack carpaccio is my absolute favorite appetizer anywhere. Really, its that good. Staff is always pleasant. Its a busy atmosphere and can sometimes feel rushed but if you insist on taking your time they are accomodating. A favorite of mine for dates and friend catch ups.
It is always a pleasure to dine at Osaka in Chestnut Hill. I have never had a bad meal there, and there are always more options that I would like to try than I can fit into one meal's choices. The waitstaff is attentive and the decor is relaxing. You couldn't ask for anything more.
Osaka Chestnut Hill is a neighborhood stalwart - consistently good, reliable and delicious food. In many many years I've never been disappointed or had a bad meal. It was a trifle chilly in the restaurant but warmed up as time went on. Food - excellent. Servers - friendly and efficient. All around good!
The food is absolutely fantastic here! Service is a little spotty but as long as you're with good company you really don't even mind much. The super delicious fresh sushi and pretty much everything else makes it totally worth it to come here and come back again & again.
I had passed this restaurant many times but the outside decor never drew me in. My daughter who is a pescatarian wanted sushi so I read some reviews and we went. The inside is really lovely--cozy and modern. The sushi was great as was the Plumosa cocktail. Will DEFINITLEY go back! I think the owners should update the outside to draw people in. Food was great as was the ambiance!
I went with my father, who had never eaten sushi, and Osaka made him a sushi eater for life. My 1 year old neice was in attendance and we had no issues getting a high chair, which is always a plus! The server was lovely, as was the food, and we never felt like we were in the way in spite of being the only people in the restaurant with a small child. Can't wait to return!
Such a good meal the first time we went back for more the next night. Only complaint is service. The waitresses seem disinterested and when a tip of over 30% is left I at least expect a thank you but it was like they didn't even notice, both nights. Lesson learned don't over tip because they don't care what you tip them.
Our waitress forgot my appetizer. I also had to request a fork twice before receiving one. The noise level is ALWAYS high. The AC wasn't working well on the ground floor so we sat upstairs where it was better. This is a reliable restaurant for high quality Japanese cuisine. Prices are high. My six small shrimp and cucumber rolls plus a soft shell crab appetizer and half a beer (I split it with my companion) was $32.50 including tip. Perhaps that's the norm for two appetizers and a half a brew in NYC. But for suburban Philly, it's steep. Then again, this is an upscale eatery in posh Chestnut Hill where if you have to ask the price.....you can't afford it.
Delicious food and the staff is very nice!! I have been here a bunch of times and I've always had a great experience. I just recently went with my mom and sisters for a mothers' day lunch, and the service was particularly slow. Usually the food comes out pretty fast, but for some reason this time it took super long. It was just as yummy as usual and our server was very friendly and apologetic about the wait, so it was still a great experience. Highly recommend!
This had to have been our worst experience at Osaka. We were seated at our reservation time. But it took forever for the waitress to come and ask us about our drinks. Once we finally got our drink order taken it took at least 20 minutes to get the drinks. We ordered an appetizer and it took nearly 30 minutes for that to come out. Now on to our dinner order. It took over an hour for our dinner to arrive. The waitress came over once and told us it would be right out. I didn't know right out meant 30 minutes. (Took her 30 minutes for her to tell us that!) I was getting ready to walk out when the food arrived at the table. I was speaking to the manager at that time. They offered us a complimentary drink or dessert. We declined. They only took off $5.00 from our bill for all of the issues. They were going to give us at least $20 worth of drinks but they only took off $5.00. Doesn't make sense. Needless to say we won't be back anytime soon.
