Cozy place, very friendly staff, chef came to out table a few times.
Will definitely go back
very friendly restaurant. owner chef spent time explaining dishes & wine. food well prepared & service excellent.
Ortygia is in a converted old Florida bungalow style home. We visited on a first Friday, during an Art Walk event. It was a good thing we made a reservation because we would not have been able to just walk in. We have dined here before and the quality and survey is consistently good. The organic house salad was a nice addition to our pasta entrees. The wine list is thoughtfully compiled, and the music (singer/guitar) was a nice touch.
Always the most exquisite plates! Chef Gaetano is wonderfully personable and incredibly talented.
Great food, great menu, friendly staff. Highly recommend this quaint little place.
The food is always great, we each ordered one of the specials: lamb shank and corvina. Both were wonderful. The staff is always friendly and efficient. We have been eating here for years, it’s always a pleasure.
What a gem! From the moment you open the door you know it’s going to be special.
Warm professional service, incredible owner/chef, and just darn good food. Loved it so much, we ate there a second time on a 4 night trip . Don’t miss it!
Ortygia is an intimate setting with wonderful Sicilian specialties prepared by the resident chef. The Monkfish special was superb, as was the eggplant appetizer, and the personal interation with chef/owner Guy is always wonderful. If you have not visited Ortygia, make a reservation and treat yourself to a special evening.
Very nice atmosphere, the food is excellent, all home made, the menu is a little smaller than it was but it has specials which are interesting.
Guy and his staff are THE BEST!! Wonderful food at reasonable prices.
Food is always on point. The staff is friendly and welcoming!
We absolutely LOVE Ortygia! Hands down this is our favorite restaurant. Chef Gaetano knows his way around the kitchen and cooks up some delicious food every time! This evening we had the fennel as an appetizer. If you've never tried it, you are really missing out! My husband and friend has the swordfish (fish of the day) and I have the pollo carciofi (I hope I'm spelling that right!). All were perfect! The new addition to the menu... gelato! It's SO GOOD! Of course the chocolate mouse pate is a treat as well.
Best chicken parmigiana ever! Very lovely service.
The restaurant is in an old house in the Village of the Arts. Very eclectic with pictures of the owner and family that were painted and framed. A warm atmosphere that was especially nice with a singer that played guitar and violin. She had a beautiful voice. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. The bread in a bag was the best bread I’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside and garlicky and chewy on the inside with an olive oil and herb dip. I ordered the cheese and greens torta rustica and it was delicious. The crust melted in my mouth. My husband had the pasta siciliano and he said it was excellent and he ate every bite. We saved room for desert. We had a peach with vanilla ice cream and toasted hazelnuts! It was so good! The peach was marinated and so different from anything else I ever had! We will definitely be back! The owner came out to see if we liked our meal and he also played the harmonica! Loved the whole atmosphere!
Ortygia is a spot that I can always know that I will get a good meal, great service and meet new and interesting guests.
Chef G can cook! The menu is not extensive, but everything he makes is delicious and truly authentic Sicilian cooking! It’s wonderful to have a good Italian restaurant to go to! It’s like sitting at Grandmas table. Our server Penny made the night with her wonderful personality. Can’t wait to go back!
Wonderful time. We loved the portions , it allowed us to have a three course meal and enjoy all. The chef was tentative and the meals were wonderful. We are looking forward to many returns.
We will definitely be back! Love everything about this restaurant! One small thing disappointed me, the menu on Open table is seasonal, it starts in October. I looked it over and had awesome ideas I was going to have for dinner but when we got there they didn't have that menu available.
I have been twice now for special birthday dinners and both times were delicious and with a wonderful atmosphere. I enjoyed the getting to talk with the chef and the heritage of the Sicilian Restaurant shines through with pride. I must say both parties I brought enjoyed the restaurant as much as I, we will return again and again.
Proprietar and staff are always courteous, professional and very helpful in food selection
Always a delight to dine here. Staff are very friendly, the food is fresh and delicious and the cozy setting is really charming.
My wife and I decided to try out a new place, and remembered meeting the chef 12 years ago. The food was excellent and carried a sense of the Sicilian tradition from his family culture. The blending of flavors was well thought out in each recipe and his home made Tiramisu was the best I have had. Wine was a nice pairing with our meal. We loved the Mozarella with truffle infusion for an appetizer. It is nice to not have to go to a chain restaurant, when there is authentic Italian nearby. Bravo to Guy Cannata. The service was excellent also. We will be coming back
Our local favorite!
Wonderful experience! Food was amazingly delicious! Chef/owners were delightful! Can’t wait to return.
8-10 The food was not hot. And it was hard to hear the person next to me.
Food was excellent. Very authentic Italian. Cozy setting. Even got to meet the owner, Gaetano. What a pleasure.
Will be back for sure.
Amazing, my son (9 yoa) likes nothing but he liked this, thought lamb shank was amazing
Great ambiance and good italian comfort food!
Love this restaurant!
Amazing food and the chef and staff are incredibly friendly.
Yum! Everything was exceptional! The stuffed pepper appetizer is my favorite
Excellent food and environment and friendly service
Excellent food and service. Could not have been better
We enjoyed the intimate, cozy dining experience with very efficient and friendly staff. Swordfish dinner was great! We'll certainly continue to visit Ortygia's!
My partner and I had the red onion soup to start. She had the day's special Pork Chop with pureed cauliflower. I had the Farsumagru, described on the menu as "Sirloin stuffed with a menagerie of ingredients including provolone, prosciutto, Italian sweet sausage, hard cooked eggs, asparagus and pancetta. Slowly braised in red wine and tomato reduction." To be clear, the sirloin is chopped. But all 3 dishes were well presented and delicious. Service was top notch.
We arrived at 5 pm on a Saturday and were finished by 6, when the live music was about to begin. We were seated in the front room next to where the musician was to play, and I know we would have found it impossible to have a conversation no matter how fine the music may have been. We'll come again for sure, but will ask to be seated away from the music if it's going on. The front room is very "live" acoustically.
Boutique restaurant in Village of the Arts. Owner/chef makes the rounds in a small house converted to a restaurant. Great food with a fun cozy family feeling.
Family friendly and the food was beyond delicious. We will be back.
Everything about this place was terrific. Really great service. My layered pasta was fantastic. Nice wine selections. Owner greeted and was fun to talk with. Highly recommend
It was "throw back Thursday", and we were disappointed that at 6:30 they were already out of meatballs and spaghetti. Also, this not only occurs in Ortygia, but in almost every restaurant we've been to lately. At one time, it had been customary for all at the table to have finished their meals before plates are taken away. One in our party was still eating when the server asked if we wanted desserts. When it was pointed out that someone was still eating, she asked the others if we wanted our plates removed. I said no as not only do I think it is mannerly to wait until everyone is finished, but I believe it makes the person eating feel rushed. Are staff now trained to remove plates immediately, even if others are eating?
We were there at 7:30 and they were out of everything we wanted.
