We had the first seating of the night after a show. So I think they were still setting up to some degree. The food and the drinks were good but not special. The service was good but a little behind the curve, neding to be reminded to bring bread, water, etc. Every one was incredibly friendly and the place is very cool looking inside. Needs some updating and a little spark can bring the place back to what it was, a great local dining spot.
We happily made the trek from Hollywood, Florida to eat at Ortanique. The food was fabulous, as always. We will be back for sure because it’s worth the 45 min drive for such delicious food.
Great food, atmosphere & service. The best chef in the Gables.
Excellent ambiance and fantastic food. The cornish hen was the best I've ever had. Conveniently located next door to the Miracle Theater/Playhouse.
Service was good; food was OK; thought the place was noisy for as big as it was; was not impressed with the people bringing the food to the table.....outside of the waitress, their appearance was dirty looking, one specifically was sweaty and had dirty hands..
We had not been to Ortanique for a few years. Always heard that it was still very good so we decided to go. The food was great, service was good! Place was packed with pre-show people. We had appetizers then the Bouillabaisse and the Corvina. All excellent and abundant.
The only issue came with the bill...when I reviewed the bill, i noticed two items that surprised me.
$4.00 for 4 Blue cheese Olives(for our 4 Martinis)
$1.50(yes one dollar-fifty cents) for anchovies for my Cesar salad.
This was disappointing since the total bill was almost $200. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. For the patronage that visit this restaurant, they really should think twice about 'nickel and diming' us. Ortanique needs to follow the example of many other CG eateries, Abracci , Seasons 52, Doc B, House, for instance, where we get the Blue Cheese olives and Anchovies included.
I will think twice before returning.
Was there last Saturday evening. Very good once again. Has become one of our favorites, one of Miami's best. Service very good. One of the managers, Gigi, the best!
Ortanique never disappoints. Jojo our waiter was great & knowledgeable. Mussels & clams amazing. The bread is delicious.
The best meal and service I’ve had in years!! Amazing
LOVE the restaurant!!!
Had reservations for 8:15 pm but we had to wait 30 minutes before we sat down especially we when there 3 tables open and the people that the check in after after us we getting the tables first. Beside that’s the service and food was excellent.
This was our second time to Ortanique on the Mile and of course we had a great experience again. We had a delicious dinner from the Miami Spice Menu. I had the Cesar Salad and Salmon with rice and my husband had Peppers and Chicken with pasta. For dessert I had a Strawberry Sherbet and my husband had a Mango Tres Leches. Service was excellent. Restaurant was packed on a Saturday night, so you should make reservations. We will be back!
Ortanique is a creative culinary gem on the mile. They have a wonderful wine list and amazing craft cocktails. Their service, Heyzel, was amazing. My only complaint, please give me a few more of those amazing warm breads. OMG, soo good.
We have come to Ortanique many times. The food is great, but a little pricey, so we mostly come here for special occasions.
The food is sort if American, but everything has Caribbean flare and flavors, like the grilled pork chops...American right, except done with drunken raisins (rum soaked), and arrow con moros! DELICIOUS!
Excellent restaurant great food romantic atmosphere
Great menu and extremely flavorful food. I always forget just how much I love this restaurant
One of my favorite restaurants in Coral gables. Miami spice menu was fantastic! Delicious conch fritters, wonderful salmon and steak entrees and the mango tres leches was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back!
I’ve always held this restaurant in high regard but this last visit was disappoointing. I’ll just site one of a few disturbances. A greek salad is mostly known for the fetta cheese and olives. Well barely any cheese and no olives!
Waitress couldn't remember our requests. Long periods between attending to table, parrot phrase questions.Service not where it should be for this type of restuarant.
Bouillabaisse , Very disapointing fish was overcooked, ceviche was bland , Mango Mule was good.
Overall Very disappointed .
Very disappointed. I have not been to the restaurant in a few years. Tuna tartare was well presented and fine. My Cornish Hen was over cooked and tasteless. The drinks were generous! That helped My companions had no comment. Bad night?
A newly discovered gem and we loved it! We booked for 5 and at the last minute two more joined our group. The receptionist didn't blink an eye before happily agreeing to make up a larger table for us.
Excellently prepared fish, paired with a lovely chardonnay made our evening perfect in the lively, vibrant atmosphere. Our server was great and all the wait staff did an excellent job of removing dishes, cutlery, etc.
Good food and ambiance. Very nice
I had not been to this restaurant in several years and I was happy to be back. The decor, the ambience, and the food were excellent. I was not happy with the service because we had three different servers come to our table. At the end of the meal we had to flag down a fourth server to get our bill and they took quite a long time to bring it back. I was also very disappointed with the quality of one of the servers. She stacked the plates at our table One by one which is not something you do at a restaurant of this caliber. And it wasn’t that she was stacking them on her arm, she was doing it at the table which was in very poor taste.
Amazing... Great food and the service is superb.
Everything was great except for lackadaisical and slow service!
The A/C wasn’t working properly so we were hot and uncomfortable and I’m through hot flashes due to breast cancer so it wasn’t the best feeling but the food and service was great!
After going to Zest, I had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time. I decided to take my mom for Miami Spice. The server started off great and was very sweet. However, we received our entree pretty late and she seemed to have disappeared. We kept asking for her but she never came to check on us or ask how our food was. One dish had duck and it arrived cold in comparison to the vegetables on the side. The same thing went for the salmon dish I had ordered. The salmon was colder than the veggies. We also ordered a 2nd round of drinks to arrive with the entree, but they came after. Thankfully, the manager took those two drinks off the bill for us. But we still never knew why we received our food so late or why the server disappeared and took so long to get back to us. IT could have been busy, but communication is essential.
Loves the food and the ambience. Was a bit over priced for portions. Staff service gave a feel for rushing gather experience
The service was great and it was nice to meet Chef Cindy Hutson. Not often you see the chef as involved.
Unique menu. Food was a bit salty...I like salt but both a bisque and fritters were very salty. Main courses were excellent, fresh, well prepared and presented, very good flavors. Service wasn't quite "on." A bit slow and inattentive and had to be reminded to bring the Sangria. All in all, a nice experience which was "made" by the uniqueness of the cuisine.
Great food. Love the monthly wine promotions. This time we got a fantastic wine at a great price
Food was excellent as always. The favor are exquisite, the attention to detail impecable. This restaurant is truly a gem, we visited for Miami Spice during lunch and the overall experience was outstanding.
Wrong food delivered to our table and service was non existent. I was very surprised
We enjoyed a very relaxing and yummy Miami Spice lunch. The appetizer of Shishito peppers was very delicious and the mahi mahi (wonderful, fresh piece of fish) with boniato mash was excellent. The pork loin was also very good. Service was super with Jojo being extremely attentive and accommodating without being intrusive. Desserts were only OK; had they been as interesting and divine as other years, it would merit 5 stars. Vanilla ice cream with pieces of a mediocre brownie does not a fabulous dessert make. However, this was the only flaw.
Everyone was very nice and attentive! Gigi was very helpful with getting us a perfect table to out of the way with our stroller and our waiter Luis was very attentive with our whole night. Definitely recommend!
Good food and better ambiance. Luis did great working on meeting expectations
We waited over 30 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. They also ran out of one of the Miami spice entrees.
Awesome Staff, Food, Service and Time. I will always frequent.
One of my favorite restaurants in Coral Gables. Octanique has not only the best Caribbean kitchen in Miami, but also one the best seafood. This restaurant is definitely a gem and I always like to go for especial ocassions.
A food blogger friend recommended this excellent restaurant when I told him I was going to be in Coral Gables to see a play at Actors Playhouse with a dear friend. This restaurant was immediately next door to the theater, and the entire experience of the meal was fantastic. We both enjoyed our meals so very much. Thanks to Ortanique for a lovely meal and evening in The Gables.
Went for lunch using the Miami Spice menu. We had two fish entrees that were outstanding. Salad and dessert were also excellent.
