Ortanique on the Mile
Consistently good all-around. Crab cake appetizer wonderful. Not much batter and actually light and not short changed at all on conch. Best thing Ortanique cares for us locals. Not at all a trendy place. After all locals are the ones that sustain the good restaurants. Owner/chef also very civic minded which is great.
The waiter was pushing us out at every step. I was there after work with my husband. No water refill even though requested three times. Had to ask for bread twice. He tried to take the bread when bringing the soup. We said don’t please we want more bread and are not rest for it to go. He was bringing the meal when we still had soup. Asking if done when I had fork in my hand still eating fish. Brought dessert before picking up the dinner plates as we were still eating. He left the bill when we took first bite of dessert. I’ve never felt so rushed. For a sit down restaurant we should be able to take our time. I left thirsty and went home to get water. It was unpleasant for what should be quality dining. The food was very good and that was enjoyable. Bathroom was clean. It was a bit noisy from other customers but the restaurant can’t control that. The lasting impression was challenging service.
Food here is always great!
Excellent food and service. Must try Tuna with wasabi mashed potato!
Birthday-Great food and ambiance.
This use to be one of my favorite restaurants. Had not visited in the past couple of years and Ithe Miami Spice Menu on website lured me in. I was disappointed. Miami Spice Menu for a Sunday night was very poor, did not include anything special. Opted for regular menu items which were good, but not outstanding for this caliber of restaurant. Saved room for dessert, only to pay $10 for a very small piece of Tres Leches which was tasty, but size was only for a spoonful! Will not return anytime soon.
Excellent meal with attentive service and great value (with Miami Spice promotion).
We ordered from the Miami Spice menu and the potions were generous and food was delicious.
The hostesses and wait staff are superb. A great dining experience (as always).
Excellent food and lovely ambiance. Highly recommend
We had salads, shellfish dishes and some apps. The quality and seasoning of food was good but all came out luke warm / room temperature . Salads were wilted and had clearly been pre- mixed earlier . Far too many tables cramped together, even by standards of a busy city .
Been a few times over the years . Gone downhill in my humble opinion
We had a double date, excellent ambiance and service
Food was great as usual but service was a little slow
Excellent food but the service was awful.
We did the Miami Spice menu - so $60 with tax and tip. Carrot Ginger Bisque was creamy and bright - but I was hoping for something with more depth and some spice. Ceaser salad was very pedestrian. Basically unimpressive appetizer options. BUT entrees were mind blowing. Salmon fettuccini had an amazing Smokey chat flavor. Sword fish was so flakey and delicate
As always the food is spectacular! We tried their signature cocktail for the night - whiskey sour with Malbec (sounds weird but it was delicious).
This is one of my favorite spots in the Gables.
Beautiful place. Charming service. The crispy fish sandwich is delicious.
They consistently serve excellent food-great fish, meat, pasta & vegetarian dishes-some w/ a Caribbean flair. There's an extensive wine list, great mojitos and cocktails, and the staff is very attentive.
I highly recommend Ortanique for delicious food and a great time!
This was the second time at Ortanique and it was as great of a dining experience as the first time! It’s a bit expensive but the flavors of the meal are delicious. The passion fruit mojito and red sangria are perfect cocktails. What made last evening even better is that Jojo was our server! He’s friendly, professional, attentive and really cares for the customers to enjoy their meal. Thank you Jojo....
Wonderful service!!! Amazing food. Can’t wait for our next visit !
It is a pity that a restaurant that was so good at the beginning has not sustain its quality. The service was very slow, the food was partially cold and I have always been told "never to return a plate", therefore I ate it COLD and at the time of paying we waited and waited, until a gentleman that was at a table behind us call my attention and told me that our bill has ended at their table and then another 10 minutes wait for the bill to appear.
The acoustics are terrible as everyone is screaming in order to be heard, therefore I think it is time to fix the acoustics, train your waiters to improve service and make sure the food is hot, other than that no complains. A positive note: the lady at the entrance was very nice.
Thi has been a consistently excellent restaurant through the years
Their ceviche, pork chop, and Cornish hen are excellent
Their fish offering are as fresh as can be
Delicious food, friendly and attentive waiter, amazing hostess, half price wines on Tuesday. What more could you ask for?
Excellent service, great food and wonderful conversation with Gigi.
Loved our evening.
It use to be a wonderful restaurant, food is not good enough.
Service was slow although the restaurant was quiet at that time for lunch.
From the minute you’re greeted at the door , everything was excellent. The restaurant was full & not easy to hear table conversation at times . Highly recommend & will return ..
I had the curry crab cake appertizer as my entre and found it mediocre. Husband had Cornish hen with which he was quite happy. Seating is cramped, maximizing on available space and I think the result is unpleasantly high noise level. Reservation was handled efficiently and Service was exquisite.
Cindy Hutson's Cuisine of the Sun Carib-fusion flavors never fail to satisfy. I'm not a fish-eater~ unless it's at Ortanique. I'm an unrepentant meat-eater~ but I order the vegetarian dish about half the time because her combinations are always delicious and filling. If you feel pressed for time and can't sit for a 'full' meal - stop by the bar for light bar bites and imaginative (and tasty!) concoctions, or one of their award-winning mojitos. This year Ortanique celebrates 20 years ~ I look forward to their next 20!
THE APPETIZERS WERE OK, MY WIFE HAD THE JERK CHICKEN PASTA AND IT WAS SO SALTY THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO EAT. I HAD THE PARMISSAN CRUSTED MAHI, AND THE PIECE OF FISH WAS GOOD, BUT IT WAS NOT CRISPY AT ALL, IT WAS WET, AND OVER SEASONED.
I ORDERED 2 OF THE SIGNATURE DRINKS, AND THEY WERE SO BAD, THAT THE LAST DRINK I WASN'T EVEN ABLE TO DRINK IT AT ALL, AND THE BRAD PUDDING DESERT WAS COMPLETELY DRY WITHOUT ANY SAUCE.
IN SHORT, THIS WAS A DREADFUL EXPERIENCE AND EVEN THOUGH THEY COMP'D MY WIFE DINNER AND GAVE US A COUPON FOR A FREE DESERT NEXT TIME, IU WOULD NEVER RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT.
IT IS A SHAME THAT IT SHOWED SOME GOOD RATINGS, AND THE RATINGS WERE SO WRONG, OR THEY LOST THE WAY OR MAYBE LOIST THE CHEF!
Amazing food, décor, service and ambiance. Loved everything about the restaurant.
Only small issue I noticed was the temperature in the restaurant was a little bit warm when we arrived.
We mentioned it and later on it improved a lot.
Great food and highly recommend it!
The food and service were outstanding. The only issue I had was that it was too warm inside the restaurant. I did not inquire, but maybe something was wrong with the A/C. It was a very warm day and evening on this occasion. I will return, but probably not until November when the weather is cooler.
As always is a good place. Very quiet at lunch time. The food is always good and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Great location too.
My wife and I visit south Florida once a year and always make a pilgrimage to Ortanique. The menu is unique but approachable and the staff and hostess (Gigi) first rate!
First time at Ortanique and we were not disappointed. The bouillabaisse scrumptious and a big enough portion not to need an appetizer. And the dessert, the mango tres leeches was decadent and delicious. My only point of criticism is a luke warm espresso. The server was attentive and the ambiance was tropical but a bit dark. Needed phone light to see manu.
Cute space. Great cocktails. Food good not great. However, what was most disappointing was the entrees were brought before an appetizer arrived. Only had fork for entree. When desert arrived had to request a fork or spoon as none were on table & our warm dessert was not very warm by time the spoons arrived. Could go in... but not worth it.
Always delicious! Really good food, cocktails and wine in a fun, elegantly casual restaurant. My favorite are the mussels, calamari salad and seared tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes. Yum! A Coral Gables staple for 20 years.
great again! servers and maitre d' there Gigi is excellent!
Our go to special occasion restaurant. Excellent food, always very good service.
It is popular (with good reason) so it can be noisy, but that is really the only thing to complain about.
A lovely restaurant with great food!
Love it really good food!
We were disappointed with our dining experience. We have eaten here multiple times. The service was a little off. We had to request to get our server to return to us and remind him we had asked for bread and drinks. Everyone was pleasant enough just not very attentive. The cauliflower soup-du-jour was excellent. The tile fish was bland. The selection is part of the regular menu although the type of fish varies on availability. The beef was disappointing, tasting almost like roast beef.
Have been there many times, always an excellent experience
