Ortanique on the Mile
First time at Ortanique and we were not disappointed. The bouillabaisse scrumptious and a big enough portion not to need an appetizer. And the dessert, the mango tres leeches was decadent and delicious. My only point of criticism is a luke warm espresso. The server was attentive and the ambiance was tropical but a bit dark. Needed phone light to see manu.
Cute space. Great cocktails. Food good not great. However, what was most disappointing was the entrees were brought before an appetizer arrived. Only had fork for entree. When desert arrived had to request a fork or spoon as none were on table & our warm dessert was not very warm by time the spoons arrived. Could go in... but not worth it.
Always delicious! Really good food, cocktails and wine in a fun, elegantly casual restaurant. My favorite are the mussels, calamari salad and seared tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes. Yum! A Coral Gables staple for 20 years.
Our go to special occasion restaurant. Excellent food, always very good service.
It is popular (with good reason) so it can be noisy, but that is really the only thing to complain about.
A lovely restaurant with great food!
Love it really good food!
We were disappointed with our dining experience. We have eaten here multiple times. The service was a little off. We had to request to get our server to return to us and remind him we had asked for bread and drinks. Everyone was pleasant enough just not very attentive. The cauliflower soup-du-jour was excellent. The tile fish was bland. The selection is part of the regular menu although the type of fish varies on availability. The beef was disappointing, tasting almost like roast beef.
Have been there many times, always an excellent experience
The FOOD!! Wow just always a great and consistent preparation of fresh food. It was better than I remembered.
We love Ortanique! Quality and variety is always consistent paired with excellent service
Good tasting food, but the portions are slightly small. Bread pudding was ok.
Always enjoy Ortanique! Consistently good.
I received a message from Open table saying that I did not show, but I did sho. I was 10 minutes late but I did go.
Ortanique on the Mile hits a home run every single time! This dining establishment is one of Miami's finest with it's consistently creative chef and kitchen staff to it's superior bartenders at the front of the house-best in service! I believe the chef's give special attention to the unique flavors of the Caribbean as each dish tastes lovingly handcrafted. Even the cocktails have the Caribbean vibe and some give a special nod to the scotch bonnet peppers so often found in the dishes! I've never been to a restaurant that consistently gives a great meal in every dish--My ultimate favorite is the Bouillabaisse, but this time crab cake, scallops, lobster mac and cheese and the salmon were on our table and every dish was an absolute hit. We ate like kings and had several cocktails for just over $150.00 with tip and it was worth every single penny. We chatted with our neighbors at another table and their reviews were the same as ours-off the charts!
Just the usual great food, service, and atmosphere. My wife and I always have a great experience at Ortanique. Although it took us almost an hour from our home it was well worth it. The cobia ceviche was absolutely amazing, followed by an equally amazing pumpkin soup and a perfect caesar salad. The grouper was excellent as well and the creme brulee was the best I ever had.
The mark of a great restaurant (aside from great food) is consistency and Ortanique certainly has that distinction. Cindy and Delius run a truly fine establishment and it is always a treat to dine there. My only complaint is that they didn't send a chopper to pick us up at home!
We have been coming to this restaurant for years and have never been disappointed.
The food is superb, the service is excellent and the ambiance cozy and friendly.
We love Ortanique and will recommend it highly to anyone who wants a great
cuisine of the islands with fresh and delicious ingredients.
Uninteresting restaurant. What I have read in Eater 38 (magig, fusion, ...) is not true.
And is ridiculously expensive
Always enjoy the food at Ortanique. The flavors and spices are very well combined to bring out the best in all the dishes. The service is usually excellent. Today they were celebrating a lot of birthdays in big groups so the servers seemed overwhelmed.
Excellent as always
Amazing food. Very average service.
We had forgotten this old favorite in the Gables and were delighted to see that it's better than ever. Both the tenderloin and the corvina were outstanding with those special island flavors.
We were going to the theater next door and wanted to have a quick dinner.
The food and wine were great and our server knowledgeable and attentive.
My second time having dinner in two weeks.
Have been hearing about this place for years and then got a sample at a food event.
Amongst all the options at the event I was intrigued enough to come to come and dine in.
Really cool environment and nice vibe.
Will be back.
Food and service second to none.
Very good food,service and ambiance!
Friday night dinner with family at Ortanique was as expected. Delicious Appetizers, main course & dessert. Great service. Always a good meal!
Ortanique is our favorite Coral Gables restaurant hands down.
We sat outside; very pleasant.
The special dish-grouper-wasn’t as tasty as I would have liked, but it was fine.
Delicious food and great service. All the time.
Great food and attentive service. Highly recommended.
A great fusions of Latin and Caribbean food. Frequent often and always walk way impressed by food and service.
Ortanique is fantastique!
Every dish was delicious and service with a smile.
Birthday dinner. Their Corvina , crab cakes and Martinis
I selected the price fixed menu and everything was delicious. My husband had the grouper which was also perfect. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine. Also perfect.
We attended a show at the theater next door.
Overall a perfect meal and a perfect evening.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
The service was excellent as well
Despite the lackluster service we received from our main waitress, we had an enjoyable meal due to the well prepared fare, which managed to combine comfort food with refined, Caribbean-inspired touches. A distraction was the table of selfie-snapping family Kardashian wannabes next to us, but they breezed in and out after appetizers to wherever their next reality TV appointment was.
Waiter needs more training. Nice and courteous but not a good waiter.
Not as good as usual. Slow service and plated food did not look as fresh and beautiful as previous experience.
Always a great meal
Recently revisited this Caribbean Fusion cuisine spot and I have been to its sister restaurant in Cayman. Decor seemed unchanged from our last visit years ago. The menu has a wide variety of Caribbean influenced options, is well situated in the heart of Coral Gables with parking either on the street or in a parking garage behind the restaurant. Its decor is nice with orange themed frescoes and they had Bob Marley music in the background
The positives: I really enjoyed the Tuna Tartare and the Scallops (served on coconut rice with side of bok choy) topped off with a dessert - sticky toffee pudding. Plating was interesting and varied with some barely fitting our table. The signature cocktails and the cocktail of the week were refreshing and I enjoyed my Rhum Blur and Mexican Penicillin.
The negatives: The restaurant was only about half full and we could hardly carry on a conversation. Tables are a bit crowded and also fairly close together which doesn't help. It really detracted from the experience and as a result I wouldn't go there for a quiet romantic dinner. Service was haphazard (we got the wrong menu for another day, they didn't bring the cocktail menu and we had to ask for it, 15 minutes to get a drink (not a busy night as I mentioned before), etc.. I had the feeling this place may be resting on its past laurels and its renowned chef and could be losing its edge. A friend told me after I was there they had over 20 health inspection violations in late January that they did correct promptly but were issued a warning. The small space of the restaurant and bar I'm sure contributes to the challenges they have. There was a certain "tired" feeling about the place and less attention to detail than we remembered.
To summarize, the food was very tasty, and if you don't mind the noise a great spot to entertain visitors.
Excellent service, food and ambiance. The food was very tasty and presentation was awesome. Service time was excellent
Most tender beef tenderloin, and the best meat I’ve ever eaten! Roasted asparagus and mashed potatoes! Ortanique Martini, Wow!
