This was the best dining experience we had while visiting The Caymans. The ceviche, cocktails, & service were exceptional.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but a series of issues throughout the :
* First cocktail I ordered was unavailable; second was overpowered with lime juice
* Missing several key ingredients for my entree (bouillabaisse); they reduced the price from $42 CI ($50 US) to $38 CI to compensate for absent scallops and mussels
* Shrimp were butterflied, but bit right into a vein on the first one
* Ceviche/tartare less than fresh
* Service was fine, but nothing exceptional
At $20/person I'd expect this and be happy with my meal, but the final bill was more than I generally pay for a stellar meal in New York... Do not recommend.
We were on vacation in Grand Cayman and decided to treat ourselves to a fine dining experience. We selected Ortanique based on the menu and proximity to the resort we were at. This was one of the top 5 meals we have had anywhere. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting.
This was our first brunch at Ortanique, and I was concerned that it might be a bit of a zoo since it was Easter. It was quite busy and they did run out of plates on the buffet one time, but overall it was a very good, relaxing experience. Our outdoor seats were quite pleasant, and though our server had two quite large tables beside ours, she did a yeoman job in keeping our champagne glasses full (note to management--a server should only have ONE more than four-topper). The buffet was very good, boasting chicken, fish and veggie dishes as well as salads and desserts. You can order egg dishes (included in $35 CD cost) a la carte from the server, and my eggs benedict were excellent. They also have a build your own ceviche bar, and on this holiday had a pasta made-to-order bar. Overall a wonderful holiday feast.
From start to finish we truly enjoyed the atmosphere, ambiance, location, service, and most importantly the delicious food. The menu is very concise. However, the flavors exploded with eclectic ingredients not often used in the United States. Obviously, great love is put into the preparation and presentation.
Everyone in our party loves the food- the fish and all flavora was incredible. It was a slow night so it was surprising that the service was really slow. Our waitstaff was pleasant but overcharged is for wine we never got. If they have sweet potato mash get double- we could eat that three meals a day'
We dined at Ortanique recently and our experience was, in every way but one, exemplary. Our table was ready as reserved, our server was gracious and professional, and the food... wow. There is someone in the kitchen at this restaurant that has a love affair with food. Hands down the best ceviche I've had due not only to the flavors but also the presentation that added to the dish rather than adorned it. Sauces were spot on with the Tuna entree that I had and my Wife's two courses were outstanding as well. When they served old school garlic bread, I was dubious. But, that little touch added just the right, simple counterpoint that was needed.
As an Executive Chef, I don't often gush like this.
Our one complaint - a server (not ours) at a nearby table ought not be allowed within 100 yards of a restaurant. His booming voice was annoying as he disclosed (ad nauseum) to his guests how much he paid for rent, how hard he worked, how difficult it was to make ends meet, etc etc. I'm reasonably certain the very able manager will resolve that issue.
Note to the Patissier: Amazing work... Try burning the alcohol off of the rum before soaking the sponge on the Coconut dessert. Or maybe burning it off from 75% of it and then mixing it back with the balance. Other than that, you guys sent us home in a dream state. Good job.
We had a delightful dinner at Ortanique. The fish was incredibly fresh and well prepared. The ceviche appetizer was a winner. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and very helpful. He even gave us some suggestions of other restaurants to dine at on the island. The ambiance was lovely as well. I would definitely return to this restaurant next time I am in Grand Cayman.

Have been coming to Grand Cayman for years. Ortanique has always had some of the best food on the island. The one weak point had been service but that has corrected. We have been here for a month vacation and ate there more than any other spot. Nothing but favorable experiences.
nice server, lots of locals, well priced. Started with ackee and saltfish fritters (Chipotle Spiced Red Pepper Coulis and Mount Diablo Corn Salsa) to get some local flair. Spice, salt and crunch was great. She has lemon roasted garlic Caesar (Romaine Hearts, Shaved Imported Reggiano Parmesan and Lemon Sizzled Wontons)..and they should serve those wontons as bar snack crack! Red snapper either way (broiled with local greens and as ceviche) was fresh. Great drinks...really enjoyed the meal
Dinner surpassed our expectations. The flavor combinations were excellent. I had the porterhouse steak which was tender with a wonderful sauce and gorgonzola mashed potatoes. The salad was a tomato, mango caprese. Yum is all I can say about the salad. My husband's salad and entrée was every bit as delicious.
We went for dinner over spring break and my family really enjoyed the food. I had the tuna entrée and it was mouth watering. My husband had fish and loved it. Our seventeen year old son had the pork tenderloin and was still talking about how good it was the next day! We had the mussels for an appetizer and the broth it was served in was delicious. We started out outside, but it started to rain. But, it was very festive and pretty, overlooking a waterway with boats. The trees are lit up and there was music down by the fountain We highly reccomend this reataurant and the Camana Bay Area !
Great location with good food however the tables were a bit too close together. The service was excellent.
Ortanique is an overwhelming choice for our favourite restaurant in the Caribbean and we have visited many. It's setting on the lagoon(you need outside seating to enjoy the overall ambiance), superb service and excellent food make it an overall excellent spot for lunch or that romantic evening dinner. On this lunch visit we chose simple salads, a cobb with conch and a local tomato and mango caprese , both with shrimp added were very tasty and fresh. The shrimp was particularly good having been marinaded. Service is always attentive and
We eat at Ortanique on the Mile (nearly) every time we are in Coral Gables/Miami. So, it was natural for us to make this our first stop in Grand Cayman. We were completely satisfied with the service, the food, and the outdoor ambiance. Outdoor dining is just enough off of the pedestrian walk in Camana Bay so as not to be intrusive with your dining experience.
We each had very different entrees, and they were all divine. The fish was perfectly cooked. As opposed to some other restaurants in the island, which I would describe as tourist traps, this one is the real deal. I can't wait to return!
We recently enjoyed dinner at Ortanique on Grand Cayman. Their outdoor dining is lovely and all four of us were very pleased with our delicious meals, the service and the entire experience. We would highly recommend Ortanique.

My last visit was very enjoyable. The food was very good and the service was good. It is very pleasant sitting outside near the water. Don't go too early. Camana Bay can be overrun with screaming children before 7PM.
Our 4th visit to Ortanique was as amazing as the first, second and third over the past two weeks. The team at Ortanique provide a dining experience that is truly outstanding, and everything I've tried on the menu (appetizers, mains, desserts) has had that unique touch that makes this place so special. We had the pleasure of hosting another couple, and they were very impressed and loved the evening. Well done everyone! See you next time!
We enjoyed our 3rd dinner at Ortanique on the 6th of August for Lynn's birthday dinner, and like the previous two dinners, it was absolutely perfect. We arrived a bit early, and were able to enjoy a drink at the bar, watching Rahm (sp) work his magic. Mary was our server again, and like the first time, was outstanding. We were fortunate enough to meet Barrett as well, and Mike - the chef, came out to thank us for returning so often. Very nice touch - thank you to all, including those who's names I didn't pick up. Lynn thoroughly enjoyed her birthday dinner, especially the artwork designed birthday wish on her dessert plate. We'll try to get back once more before flying out. Either way, we'll be back. Coral Gables is on the agenda!
We returned for the second time on this trip, and completely enjoyed the evening from start to finish. Our server, Elizabeth, was exceptional, and made a wonderful evening even better. See you again on Wednesday!
From start to finish, our dinner for four, on July 30th, was outstanding. Our main server, Mary, a lovely Filipina, described items on the menu with such style that each item seemed like the "one to have". Her knowledge of wines is exceptional. The atmosphere - nicely upscale yet relaxed. Food preparation and presentation - like a work of art. Amazing taste sensations. Simply something else! Mary, and the supporting wait staff were excellent, and made our evening at Ortanique one to remember. And Mary, we'll be back a couple of more times on this visit!
Visited from New York while on vacation. The setting is beautiful. Restaurant is located in the Camana Bay shopping area, short drive from the seven mile beach. Food was good by New York standards, but overpriced. Service was exceptional. We were a group of 20, including 6 kids who shared courses. It was a bit disappointing to discover a $5 course-sharing charges attached to our $800+ bill???Be aware that prices are listed in local currency : at the time of our dinner that resulted in 20% greater US dollar charge vs. The listed price...
Lovely dining spot in Camana Bay. Great ambiance, personable staff and awesome food.
Seafood shines in the ceviches and fresh catch menu items. No rush to move you along, they are delighted to have you dine with them. Would be fun for happy hour as well as they have cozy couch areas. Great choice.
Great place for outdoor dining in the evenings, EXCEPT when seated next to 30 people in a cigar smoking club! The smells and smoke were overpowering and ruined an otherwise fine dinner.

Ortanique , at Camana Bay, on Grand Cayman has food that surpasses the quality of most restaurant s. This is our second vacation to Grand Cayman, and the ambience, food, presentation is hard to top, even in New York......but the view to the sea and tha ability to dine indoors or outdoors is wonderful. First time we went for dinner, this past Saturday, we had lunch. Fabulous.
Out of our whole week in Cayman with dozens of dining options, I was really looking forward to this restaurant most of all. The idea sounded so promising, and the reviews made it sound like Ortanique delivered on the hype. Well, we were disappointed. We ate in so many superior restaurants on Grand Cayman during the rest of the trip, and they were all striving to be restaurants -- not cash cows for investors. To begin with, even though it was not particularly crowded, we waited excessively at every stage. Getting the drink order in, then the food orders. Seeing the first course come out, only to wait 30 minutes for the entrees. The seafood was overly salted, the sweetness and texture needlessly cloaked in sharp sodium. Shrimp was not fresh.
Great place. Too expensive, though. I ordered a Norma Salad ($14.00) and added scallops. They charged me $12.00 extra for two pieces of scallop. That was ridiculous.
The food was outstanding, the waitress engaging and the setting very nice. While a bit pricey, the cost was overshadowed by the quality of the dishes. We had a snapper ceviche-tuna tartare combo that was amazing. Our entrees were every bit as good. My wife had the coconut shrimp and seared diver scallops and I had the ahi prepared island style. Awesome! We would definitely return.
We were very impressed by the food at th Caribbean fusion spot - the chocolate/cocoa crusted salmon was incredible! And the view from the waterfront table was great! We loved it all!
This is our third trip to Ortanique. We make it a point to have dinner here whenever we vacation in Grand Cayman. It is the perfect combination of superb food, charming outdoor eating and capable service in a peaceful, relaxing setting.
The food was superb. The ceviche, with lots of lime, creative spicing and wahu, was truly spectacular. The heaven-sent coconut cake dessert is an absolute must-try. Light as a feather; loaded with shaved fresh coconut. Spectacular. Service could have been more prompt; but the food was very good.
Lovely location, excellent food, pricey but well worth it. Staff, particularly Maria from England and mwangi from Kenya added to the evening. Well worth a visit.
Some dishes were very good, but not the special duck confit salad. Duck confit should be succulent with crispy skin. There was not a fleck of crisped duck skin and the meat was desiccated to the point of being hard and tasteless—should have been called duck jerky. Serving were generous—to make up for quality? Had the feel of a chain restaurant. For the prices, Ortanique is too inconsistent and pretentious.
We had a wonderful and memorable meal......must try the braised short rib app....one of the best ever!
We dined at Ortanique at an early seating on New Year's Eve to enjoy the fireworks with our daughter. I was absolutely (as were our guests) delighted by the service and the food we received. The team at Ortanique were fabulous from the time we arrived until the time we left. Thank you so much!
