Orso - NYC
On the positive side the location is great pre theater, the waiter was very attentive and our table was nicely situated.
My family enjoyed the tuna part of the tartare appetizer but found the endive off putting. The prosciutto and melon on mine were both delicious but not nearly enough melon for me.
The gnocchi and steak entrees were tasty, one steak was perfectly medium rare, the other was too rare to be called medium but the waiter saw that immediately and offered to take it back, it was eaten and enjoyed as it was. The shrimp entree needed more on the plate, my son was still hungry. Actually I think all the plates could have had more garnish/sides on them, and my branzino was cooked perfectly but swimming in butter.
I think it wouldn’t have taken much to make it all a bit better but the service was great and we arrived at the theater in plenty of time.
I love Orso! Have been here many times and once again the food, service, and overall experience did not disappoint! The white bean dip and bread started our meal. It was very yummy. I had the mixed greens and skirt steak with a side of spinach all delicious. The homemade tartufo for dessert was sooo good. I always recommend Orso
Always special. Temporarily a reduced menu due to a caught-immediately gas leak. Try now but be sure to return when the restaurant is back to normal.
orso is consistently wonderful.
This is my favorite restaurant - and I tried to say why when your survey app died. I cannot repeat everything except to say the service, food, and ambiance are elegant and exceptional. Let's see if this review goes through this time....
Great, iconic Broadway favorite. Very good, great value, reliable.
Food delicious, staff attentive and cordial.
After many outstanding meals at Orso this one was a disappointment. The service was distracted - how hard can it be to remember who wants sparkling water and who wants tap; or to then bring the tap water to those who want it without being asked a second time. The food we ordered was good (the calves liver is still excellent) but the menu was very limited. Afterward I wondered if something had happened to limit the capabilities of the kitchen and tried to check that out online but found nothing to explain why so many of our favorite dishes were MIA.
As always Orso did not disappoint! The food was outstanding and the chef, Victor continues to wow us with his creative dishes. We enjoyed the charcuterie platter with so many outstanding choices! The wine was perfectly matched to the sausage pasta and the wait staff was very attentive. Kevin is a great host and we appreciate all that Orso does to make our dining experience a great one!
Perfect, as always.
Excellent food. I ate an excellent Caprese and the some delicious pasta. My wife and mother-in-law also appreciated a lot. Every time I go there it is better than the previous time.
No pizza on the menu😩
The gas line was broken. They were unable to prepare many dishes. I think the restaurant should notify customers.
It started to go sour when I asked for bread, the server brought the bread and when I asked for a plate she said they don’t have any, but We could make a mess on the tablecloth and she will clean it up. My friend’s steak was dry and my octopus was cold and rubbery.
Not a good experience....food was at best mediocre....service was at best below standard.....thy just did not get it
I have been coming to this Restaurant when visiting NYC for many years. Typically one of my favorites spots in the Theatre District. On this visit, the food offerings were extremely limited and what was offered not very good. We were told they were changing the kitchen in some form and were limiting their menu to few options. The problem was the few options offered were of poor quality and taste. Given the options, it should have come at a reduced price as well given the quality was reduced at least in half.
Nothing better in the world than dinner at Orso and a Broadway show. Nothing!
Salads excellent. Tiramisu outstanding. Branzino bland and over cooked.
Very relaxed atmosphere, fabulous food and exemplary service.
The only downside, which was not a deal breaker, was the lunch menu was rather limited.
Great pre/post theater venue!
Not for lunch. I didn’t know that lunch and dinner were polar opposites at Orso. My salad and main were ok, however the fish that I ordered was served on an ice cold plate. I had been attempting for a long time to get dinner reservations. Now I realize that it’s not for lunch.
We loved the new menu, fig salad & bow tie pasta with zucchini was delicious, great waitress!!! Loved it!!!
Delicious food every time!
Orso is one of my favorite pre or post theater spots. Delicious food, friendly efficient waiters. Always an excellent experience. I shared a salad and the lamb chops for lunch. Perfect. Just the right portion for lunch.
So here’s the thing — Orso is typically amazing. But this time they had a problem with their gas line so they were only serving a limited menu.
Um ... I know it wasn’t in their control but had happened a few days earlier ... so ...
They should have should have CALLED anyone with a reservation to tell them. They did NOTHING to make the situation better.
I find it shocking that they would be so careless with their customers.
Orso- you can do better!
Orso was one of our first restaurant experiences some 30 years ago, and even with the power problems resulting in a limited menu this year, they held up to their high standards, and made us so happy to be there.
What I loved about the restaurant was the brightness and the roominess. Tables were not on top of one another. Food was amazing too. Service attentive. I would definitely go back again!
The restaurant used to be one of our favorites!! Not only the menu was reduced to a minimum but the food portion was minimal. The chef lacks originality, no magic... no Italian touch. We walked in with great expectations but came out disappointed. An evening we would rather forget!! Daniel
Pre-theatre for friends’ anniversary. Perfect place. Delicious food, excellent service and convenient location.
One of my favorite Theater haunts
Sometimes hard to get in
but so worth it when you do!
Orso is always outstanding. It never fails to live up to expectations. Warm, welcoming, and delicious.
Intersting menu and Well prepared food. Wife had pizza which though tasty wasn’t cooked in the usual Italian way. I had pork chop which was nicely cooked and a good thickness.
Tough to find a QUIET place in n general.
Orso is a many years-old favorite. The service and food are consistently good!
Lovely low key Italian quality food and delightful service. Classy charm.
4.5 Stars. A lovely restaurant with fantastic pastas and pizzas. My only quibble is that the latter comes with actual slivers of tomato on top (which i personally dislike and was not at all expecting). Others might actually like that though! The sweet corn risotto was absolutely phenomenal, savory with a subtle roasted sweetness from the corn. Well made pasta especially risotto is hard to come by in the notoriously touristic (and therefore average food prevails) Theatre District. This was the perfect pre-matinee lunch and the wine and service was good too.
As usual, a wonderful experience because of extremely friendly staff who made us feel at home!
Always a great experience!
Best meal we’ve experienced during our week in NYC. Made special by the exceptional service.
Came here after the theater and was happy to see it was quiet and calm in here unlike so many of the Theater District restaurants. The food was yummy, the service friendly and efficient oh, and we even saw a celebrity or two.
