Orso - NYC
Need to book at 10:15 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Winter salad and the pacheri pasta dishes were fabulous. Had the calves liver which was a bit overcooked and really nothing special. Great place to relax before a show.
Food and ambience at Orso is very good. Service this time was friendly but uneven. My biggest criticism with Orso is their wine prices which are absurd.
When we first arrived there were a few customers and we were escorted to the back room for a table of two in front of the kitchen. After a few minutes we were seated next to four people eating. I had the Branzino which was dry and my husband had the short ribs which looked like chunks of stew meat. We have eaten with prior and looked the pizza which wasn’t being served due to an appliance problem. When we finished our dinner I spoke to our waitress about how much we enjoyed the pizza and was disappointed. She then told us you had no gas for the past six months. To my shock I asked how are you preparing the food and her reply was the chef was being very creative with a hot plate. At this point I knew why my food was dried out We should been told this prior to sitting down and spending $150.00 on dinner
Very limited menu. No chicken or pizza. I wish they had noted that on open table. Food okay. It was freezing in back dining room had to have heater turned on. Hope to return when all items are back. They did have 3 pasta dishes though
Should have advised that due to a utility issue there was a limited menu.
Family friendly restaurant with very nice food and service.
Loved the win, pasta and dessert♥️
The grilled pears were our favorite
Always consistently delicious.
Limited menu right now, but the dishes were well prepared and interesting.
As always, the food is mediocre and overpriced here but the location is convenient to the theatres.
Upon entering, the rude person we encountered led us to a table almost within a serving space. We were told that there were no other tables for three. As we stood there reviewing our options and about to walk out, another gentleman popped up and very politely led us to another table. Our reservation was made many weeks in advance. We had a charming waiter who helped take the edge off our negative experience.
Pleasant environment, quick but indifferent service, pasta dishes ungenerous and good but nowhere near excellent.
Consistently very good informal food. Very convenient to theatres on 44th,45th,and 46th streets.
Though we've had dinner at many of the restaurants on restaurant row, this was our first time here. We were pleasantly surprised. Service was professional and friendly. Our only complaint was the very limited menu. Just four entrees. I had the bronzino. Delicious. My husband had the lamb chops. Both were well portioned and well seasoned. We started with the pear appetizer and the pea soup. Both were good. We ended with the tartufo. All in all very satisfied. Oh and they weren't able to make an apple martini. No apple mixer. Disappointed.
The menu is perfectly balanced and each selection is well prepared and delicious. From the minute I walked in the door I felt like an old friend returning. Everyone was friendly, accommodating, and determined to make my dining experience enjoyable. The prosciutto with grilled pear was over-the-top!!
Very nice place after show! Quiet enough to talk and food was very good and servers delightful. They let us sit and talk for hours!
First, glad that I had a reservation or it would have been tough to get in for lunch and make our theater curtain time, be forewarned. The food was very good the waiter attentive but the background noise make it hard to order and be understood (normal table conversation was ok). Better then the average before show lunch. Would return. We had the Calves liver plate and fish plate and would recommend either.
Absolutely brilliant food! We had the antipasti and the pasta and what can I say? It is like traveling to Italy and eating perfectly al dente rigatoni
We come annually for an after theater meal with friends. We like the coziness of the space and the friendliness of the staff. And, course, the food is generally very good and well priced.
The one disappointment on this visit: my wife’s pasta was too al dente and there was too little meat sauce. A staple like that should be great every time. My linguine with clams, on the other hand, was excellent.
We got great value — terrific food and wine — during Restaurant Week with the fixed Price, 3-course offering. Sea bass is fabulous.
We were going to Lincoln Center for a show after dinner. This is a convenient & great pre-show restaurant.
My husband and I had lunch before a Saturday matinee. Our food was delicious. The staff was friendly and very attentive. We will be back for sure!
Our group of four, pre show, had a fabulous dinner, service was wonderful, and the environment was warm and inviting.
Un rico lugar italiano, la carta es muy corta pero vale la pena para pre o post teatro.
El servicio totalmente amable
Great place in the NYC theater district. We went later and enjoyed a quiet meal. Very good modern Italian. Best were the salad and the Tiramisu. The entrees were solid. We would go again for sure!
Service, ambience, food. All excellent
Orso has always been my favorite Go To restaurant pre-theater. This time we were meeting friends a little later in the evening, between pre and post theater, so it was quiet. The mIn problem is tgT the brick oven has been broken for months, so the menu is abridged.
It is a delicious restaurant great for before the theater. It was a little cold and they put out space heaters for several diners. Our food was delivered a little slowly but we had plenty of time before the curtain. I would go back.
a bit pricey, menu may be limited depending on what you're looking for but good...near theaters without being so touristy
Pros: Service, Quality of food, Reasonable pricing considering the location.
Cons: Small menu, Waiters don’t pour your wine, even upon opening for initial taste (never encountered that before!), Decor needs an update.
Special place for special dinners. We watched a couple at another table quietly get engaged, for example. Excellent Northern Italian cuisine and attentive service.
They’ve limited their lunch menu to the point that there was nothing we wanted to order. Salads with no protein except small amounts of cheese.
One of my favorite spots in NYC! Never disappoints.
We had a wonderful dinner at Orso's before going to see Hadestown. We shared an antipasto platter to start. It was much bigger than I had expected but everything was delicious. For a main course, I had the lamb chops, which were perfectly cooked. My friend had calve's liver and enjoyed it very much. It too was much bigger than we expected. I was also quite impressed that almost all of the main courses were $30 or less. You don't see much anymore in that price level at good restaurants.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
Orso has been one of my favorite New York restaurants for years, especially in the theater district, and I would certainly recommend it. That said, I would normally have given the food an "outstanding" rating this time, but cannot because they are serving a limited menu because of some renovation (or something) that they are going through. It is still very good, and I hope they will move through this interruption soon so that it will be outstanding again. You will still get a good meal there, but not AS good as it has been in the past.
It was my Fiancé’s Birthday and we were seated next to the bar rear the front door. Extremely disappointed. The food was ok.
This restaurant has good food but a very limited menu. The good news is it is open late after the theatre . The menu changes each day and you have to hit it right. The bread is terrible, the decor feels tired. But the clientele is always interesting and often actors from Broadway shows will be eating there. Bottom line :It is low key, not too noisy, convenient to the theatre district and the food will always be good, if not exciting and great.
Once the utilities are back working I think all will improve
Love this restaurant. The only place to dine when in theatre district. The staff
is like family to us. We go back a long time going there and the restaurant
remains a perfect place to go before or after a play.
Great food, super tasty! It's a shame they can't make pizzas now.
