Orso - NYC
Service, ambience, food. All excellent
It is a delicious restaurant great for before the theater. It was a little cold and they put out space heaters for several diners. Our food was delivered a little slowly but we had plenty of time before the curtain. I would go back.
a bit pricey, menu may be limited depending on what you're looking for but good...near theaters without being so touristy
Pros: Service, Quality of food, Reasonable pricing considering the location.
Cons: Small menu, Waiters don’t pour your wine, even upon opening for initial taste (never encountered that before!), Decor needs an update.
Special place for special dinners. We watched a couple at another table quietly get engaged, for example. Excellent Northern Italian cuisine and attentive service.
They’ve limited their lunch menu to the point that there was nothing we wanted to order. Salads with no protein except small amounts of cheese.
One of my favorite spots in NYC! Never disappoints.
We had a wonderful dinner at Orso's before going to see Hadestown. We shared an antipasto platter to start. It was much bigger than I had expected but everything was delicious. For a main course, I had the lamb chops, which were perfectly cooked. My friend had calve's liver and enjoyed it very much. It too was much bigger than we expected. I was also quite impressed that almost all of the main courses were $30 or less. You don't see much anymore in that price level at good restaurants.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
Orso has been one of my favorite New York restaurants for years, especially in the theater district, and I would certainly recommend it. That said, I would normally have given the food an "outstanding" rating this time, but cannot because they are serving a limited menu because of some renovation (or something) that they are going through. It is still very good, and I hope they will move through this interruption soon so that it will be outstanding again. You will still get a good meal there, but not AS good as it has been in the past.
It was my Fiancé’s Birthday and we were seated next to the bar rear the front door. Extremely disappointed. The food was ok.
This restaurant has good food but a very limited menu. The good news is it is open late after the theatre . The menu changes each day and you have to hit it right. The bread is terrible, the decor feels tired. But the clientele is always interesting and often actors from Broadway shows will be eating there. Bottom line :It is low key, not too noisy, convenient to the theatre district and the food will always be good, if not exciting and great.
Once the utilities are back working I think all will improve
Love this restaurant. The only place to dine when in theatre district. The staff
is like family to us. We go back a long time going there and the restaurant
remains a perfect place to go before or after a play.
Great food, super tasty! It's a shame they can't make pizzas now.
Been coming here for years. An old favorite before the theatre. It never disappoints. And the lack of noise is terrific. You can have an easy conversation in a relaxed, yet elegant setting.
Our group of five adults dined at Orso prior to a matinee. We had the appetizers of zuppa, prosciutto, and shared a pasta with beans and mushrooms and a hint of lemon. All were excellent. The entrees of pasta bolognese, chicken, and branzino were excellent as well. The only disappointment was the vitello tonnato. The veal although very thinly sliced has gristle in every bite and was tough though the sauce was amazing. Excellent service. We would definitely recommend and return.
It was lovely! The food was delicious and the staff was helpful and friendly despite it being in the middle of the holiday rush!
Great service, food, and ambiance!
Met my family there for Pre theater dinner. The service was very good. The location was perfect to eat before the show. Although the menu was limited, the food was good.
Great for pre theatre dinner!
For the past 5 months Orso has had no gas for cooking which means, among other things, that their justifiably famous pizza is unavailable. The menu is leaner. And the result of it all is nothing short of spectacular. Last night I had the best meal I’ve ever had here: the Insalate d’Autonne, crisp and fruity, and risotto with perfectly caramelized scallops and mint—creamy, cheesy and piping hot.
Everything else is wonderfully the same: wait staff, knowledgeable and efficient, and diners, mostly New Yorkers like me, who are happy to be there.
I was told the gas line will be repaired by next month. I’m sure that’ll make things easier for everyone who works there and that’s a good thing. And pizza will be back on the menu. But if I were you I’d try to go before that happens and see what great things misfortune and necessity have done for the dining experience at Orso. Bravo!
Fantastic. We loved the food and the people. Great location
A typical long, narrow Manhattan dining room. The table we had was right opposite the bar and adjacent waiter station so our dining room experience was not that good. However the food from the short menu was absolutely delicious. Despite our close proximity to staff, the service was only adequate. I think we would return but insist on a different table. However, there are many choices in the area.
Great food. Excellent service. Nice quiet, low key atmosphere. Not touristy, definitely more of a neighborhood place, but not intimidating.
OpenTable Computer cancelled my reservation but fortunately the restaurant accommodated us.
A perfect place for a pre or post-theatre meal. Delicious, authentic Italian food. Accessible, affordable wine selection. Attentive, professional service. Warm, inviting atmosphere. I'll definitely return!
Overall excellent experience. Food was great!
Prosuitto platter thinned beautifully.
Potato and leek soup delicious.
Omelette was perfection
Scrambled eggs over salmon and pesto delightful.
25th wedding anniversary. Dinner was delicious!!
A perfect place to enjoy a pre Broadway show dinner. They know how to serve you quality food with your schedule in mind.
They have been around for many years for a reason.
Kevin the manager is always great as is the food and service. Always have to have dinner there when I come home to NYC
Always love eating there!
Dinner following a play! Really great evening and happy we found this gem
Wonderful restaurant in the theatre district
Great place for pre theatre meal. Good food, great service and get you to the play on time.
Very limited menu right now. Few choices. Pasta sauce needed “oomph”... had eaten here two years ago and was very disappointed.
Very accommodating and aware of the timing/schedule for theatre patrons.
We dined after a show. Looking forward to pizza but they were not preparing due to kitchen equipment issues. The food was average. I would not go back.
