Orso's is in our top 3 places in Anchorage and we have spent a lot of special family occasions there, never disappointed. Sometimes some dishes could be better, especially for the prices, but are always at least good, sometimes delicious.
Ambiance would get 5 stars except for the chronic Alaska problem of those who come to places like this dressed like they would be for a monster truck rally or working on the Slope, not Orso's fault, and the only thing they, or other places, could do is institute a dress code (which will never happen) but it really kills it for the rest of us, having to look at you filthy jeans/filthy toes&toenails in flip-flops/filthy t-shirt or sweatshirt from high school /plumber's butt.
From hostess to waitress to various young people intermittently clearing our table, service and manners were impeccable and appropriately deferential, EXCEPT AND ARE YOU READING ORSO MANAGEMENT? The female waitstaff member (not sure of position) who called me HONEY on my way out. It is not professional, appropriate, or respectful to refer to an adult paying customer, especially one old enough to be your parent, by this or similar terms. Sir or ma'am are what should be used, and were by everyone else on staff, to our party, just this one exception; however, occurring as we were leaving left an (negative)
impression and the urge to give you feedback about it. Please remind your entire staff of this.
Food was delicious and service was great. Server was knowledgeable and pleasant.
The waitstaff were great. The food was overcooked. The price was quite high. Salad tossed with dressing was drowning. Dessert was not very good. Cold cheese platter was good, side scalloped potatoes delicious. Disappointing dining experience overall.
Chowder excellent, entrees mediocre, prices way too high
Great service, nice ambiance, seafood gemelli was awesome!
Mother’s Day dinner for myself and my mother, with my two sons. Per usual, excellent food and while the service wasn’t the usual up to par, she did her absolute best.
Another delicious evening at ORSO! I love their showtime menu, we use it whenever we go to shows and it has a wonderful selection. The crab stuffed rockfish is a family favorite! And the portion of calamari for the starter was quite large. I also enjoyed the tiramisu for dessert choice, much more than the chocolate cream it replaced.
Very quick service, food was excellent and very pleasant staff.
As alway Orso’s show special was not only a great deal but the food was excellent nicely presented and the servicer was prompt and exceptionally polite.
Great appetizer items, large wine menu and lots of fish options!
Great food great service.
We use the theater menu as it’s a good price. Really appreciate the option yo do this. Our waiter was excellent: attentive, respectful and very helpful. Wines were delicious. Cauliflower starter was a bit bland but I ate it and the rockfish was great. ORSO never disappoints.
Had a great time. ORSO is spendy but an excellent experience and a great place to visit before a show at the theater!
Service was excellent, food was average. We've always had great meals here over the years, but both meals yesterday were just average at best. The chicken parm was average at best: too much thick tomato sauce and a glop of gummy cheese. Expected better. The angel hair pasta was very good. The grilled romaine and flat iron steak was also just average: no Gorgonzola as advertised, and the grilled lettuce not that tasty. The steak was tender and cooked to order. The wine, service and ambiance were all outstanding, so I would come back again to give it another chance.
All went as expected.
Seating was prompt. Service was friendly, personable, and solicitous . Ambiance was fine, albeit a bit noisy with several nearby family groups evidently celebrating recent school graduates.
One of our entrees (the salmon) was a bit undercooked to our tastes, so we asked for it to be cooked a bit more. The kitchen determined to provide a new dish from scratch, which was still a bit undercooked, when it finally came, but better than the first version. Preparing a new dish, of course created what we felt was an unnecessarily long wait (compared to simply heating the original dish, as requested), so that was disappointing. We declined the offer of a complimentary dessert, but it was gracious of them to offer.
First timers and celebrated my wife’s birthday. The staff satisfied my request for a semi-private and quiet setting. They set the table and placed a kind birthday token on our table. The staff, service, food, desserts, and drinks were on point. Our server Justin never skipped a beat and was quick to take care of our requests. Not once did we have to flag him down. A lot of servers can learn a lot from him. Wish we would have visited Orsos sooner. The seafood gazpacho, seafood gemelli, and the ghost gin have become my favorites! Happy wife, happy life! Thanks Orsos!!!
Everything was great, food was perfectly prepared and delivered right off the grille. waiter was promptly diligent and knowledgeable. The only complaint is overall meal price was a little high.
- Maitre d’ very friendly and welcoming
- Service inattentive and mainly invisible
- drink order forgotten
- portions very small
- prices rather high
- halibut was excellent, however sides (potatoes and asparagus) grossly undercooked and lukewarm
- entree was put on the table immediately after appetizer was finished without providing utensils
- room temperature too cold
Won’t go again
Had one meal that had to be sent back... an odd taste that no one could identify or liked. Rest was good and we made our show.
Easter dinner with kids. They went the extra mile and went next door for plain bread for the kids!
Orzo is always outstanding! Amazing food and out waiters was friendly, and super helpful!!
Hostess waitress and bartendress were all friendly and offered good suggestions. The roasted beet salad was so delicious with the ground hazelnuts. Thank you!
Ambiance, food and service were terrific. It was my first time to Orso. I travel to Alaska several times a year and the dining experience with my customers was memorable!
Dinner with friends before the opera
Great food and service. Jeremy the bartender was friendly and very personable appears to enjoy his job and is a great resource on what to do while in anchorage. I had the halibut. It was fresh and prepared perfectly. Some of the best halibut I have had. My wife had the fillet and lobster. Both high quality and well prepared. Nick the server was fantastic. His knowledge of the food prepared was second to none from prep to completion. Very confident and friendly and obviously loves his job. 5 star service Nick and Jeremy. See you soon.
Yes, it is a great pre-theater restaurant. Servers were especially nice. Parking not too difficult.
This was a surprisingly nice dinner. Service, was excellent, food was exactly right.
Returned again after last month's delicious dinner here, this time to have my favorite dish, Osso Bucco, which is superb. I do suggest that it either be served in a larger bowl, or put the bowl on a plate, as it is full to the brim. Also, it should also be served with a large spoon, in my opinion, otherwise all of the juices are impossible to eat. I also suggest it be accompanied by a piece of bread or a roll to sop up the juices.
The wait person was very attentive but not intrusive. My dinner companion had the harvest salad and the crab stuffed rockfish, also a favorite of mine, and said they were delicious. We shared the creme brûlée for desert, which can be ubiquitous in some places but yours, with the raisins, sets itself apart.
The waiter was a bit condescending when asked a question about the menu
A frequent go-to spot for us. Always consistent, always enjoyable.
The food wasn’t as good as I expected. The Caesar salad tasted like bottled dressing. My blackened rockfish seemed a bit too salty. The quality seems to have diminished a bit.
Our hostess and waitress were awesome.
We usually have really good food here but the last couple of times that I tried the entrees, I was really disappointed. Yesterday, I had the crab stuffed rockfish and, frankly, it was bland. There was no depth of flavor. This should be a standout dish and it really fell short in my opinion. The carrots were so undercooked that I couldn’t cut them much less eat them. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for area restaurants to create tasty vegetables. On the plus side, the seafood deviled eggs were good, my husband’s seafood chowder was very good and he liked the rib eye. If we try Orso again, I’ll probably stick to the small plates or appetizers like I’ve done in the past.
I was disappointed. The server was difficult to understand. The food was subpar. I'm not sure I'll go back.
The intimate atmosphere allowed our party of 8 to enjoy our conversation. The Seafood Gemelli was out of this world with the locally fresh seafood and fresh pasta. The Harvest salad was a refreshing change from your typical garden salad. The whole dining experience from beginning to end left everyone wanting to come back for more.
Nick explained the daily specials and the flights of wine and vodka martinis. The flights came in a tiered stand that made it easy to keep track of each taste and looked cool. The prosciutto wrapped black cod was perfectly cooked and delicious. Nick helped us close the tab in time to make it to the concert at the PAC. One of my favorite downtown restaurants.
We went for dinner before a concert and chose not to get the preshow dinner, which was really a good deal, I was just anxious about getting to the show on time. As we didn’t get an appetizer, our meals came quickly, the food was good and we had time for a latte, which was really good.
We had reservations for dinner before a performance at the PAC. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up and our table was given away. We decided to stay and eat in the bar. The manager came over to personally apologize and made sure we were well taken care of . Our server, Frank, was delightful and we look forward to going back in the near future.
Great service made for a lovely dinner. I was hesitant to go here for dinner as my first experience at orso was so-so. I’ve changed my mind and will be back again, hopefully soon.
The service at Orso is really outstanding. It’s clear, as soon as you walk through the door, that the entire staff will do all they can to ensure your satisfaction. The food, of course, is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
