ORO Ratings and Reviews
First things first. The food was very good, as was the service. There is very little ambiance to speak of; just off-white walls with few, if any decorations or artwork. The business plan for this restaurant is that there is no menu distinction between appetizers and entrees. The 3 categories of food were garden, sea and land. The plates are small and you are encouraged to order 2-3 plates per person. The plate prices range from $10.00 or so to over $25.00. My wife and I ordered 4 dishes total - lobster ravioli, truffle mac and cheese, chicken breast, and scallops. The scallops were the most expensive of the 4, at $25.00. As stated, the food was very good and our server, Courtney, was pleasant and knowledgeable. I just don't like the business model. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine which was very good and each of us received a complimentary glass of champagne, as it was our anniversary. They did not provide bread or anything for the table. The tables were small and somewhat close together. The worst part, however, was the heat. I usually don't get very hot, but it was really unbearable. In sum, I probably will not be back. Maybe I am old-fashioned, but I like a menu where I can see appetizers, entrees, etc.
Food was excellent, though pricey. Cory, our waiter was right there when we needed him, he was fun and full of information.
This was a New Years dinner at 5pm. Intensely cold and very windy outside. I looked up ORO’s dining hours and Sunday had 4 pm, I saw no holiday hours posted online. My husband and I got there about 4:15 for a drink and to wait for other couple. Door was locked. Woman came to the door and I said your website says you are open at 4pm on Sundays. She said, well it is 5 o’clock today because it is a holiday....we were not amused. Time for holiday serving should have been posted online. So in frigid weather we made our way up the street to a bar, just to stay warm.
The food was fabulous and the menu is structured for easy sharing. Portion size can easily be shared between 2-4 people. We took home extra food as we could not finish. Loved the combinations in everything from garden selections to seafood and meats. Will definitely return.
Second time to the restaurant. Did not live up to first experience. We asked specifically if the ribs were beef as we DO NOT eat pork. Server confirm ed it was beef. Upon taking a few bites we felt they were pork. Server now confirmed they were indeed pork. One of us was nauseated as a result of not eating any pork in 10 years. There could have been worst results from the pork. More care should be taken to guest request. Temperatures of the food was warm vs hot.
Our first time at ORO and it was amazing. Great helpful staff and the food was fantastic. Although a bit pricey it is definitely worth it for the taste of the food. Proportions are SMALL so will need to order several to walk out feeling satisfied which can make it pretty expensive but again the food was delicious. Definitely will go again.
Went with friends on a Saturday evening before attending a show at the Duke Energy Center. Our group ordered 4 small plates (truffle mac 'n cheese, roasted beets with tempura goat cheese, wok fried brussel sprouts, & butternut squash risotto cakes) and 3 larger items (salmon, filet, 1/2 Peking Duck). All were superb; the Peking Duck was absolutely spectacular. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and wonderful food; what's not to love? Bill per couple was $99 before tip. We'll return to this gem many times.
Honestly- the food was not memorable. The noise level was insane. The service was not exceptional. Either lower the price or serve a slightly more generous portion for tasting. We wanted to love Oro but the great location was the only outstanding feature. Maybe we just caught them on an off night? Nevertheless Oro just didn’t measure up to other dining options in downtown Raleigh.
I made a reservation via this app. When I arrived the restaurant was closed. I saw a service person outside the side entrance and ask what was going on and he stated they were closed for ‘stocking’. I call the restaurant and it went to voicemail.
I reserved a table for dinner while landing in Raleigh. I tried calling as I was on my way from the airport but nobody picked up so I thought they were busy...
I got there 5 minutes early and I found the restaurant CLOSED! And what is most embarrassing is that there was another slot available after mine at 10pm...
I had to walk around with my luggage for half an hours to find a new restaurant and at that point no one was taking reservations anymore. I eventually found a taco place at 10pm that was still serving food.
Totally disrespectful and unprofessional, they should be removed from this platform if they cannot honor reservations...we are not taking about a delay but about a place accepting reservations while closed!
We loved our experience at ORO. It was a busy Saturday night, but we didn't feel the effects of a busy crowd. The food was just enough to fill us up with 5 plates between the two of us. The tomato soup dumplings, the crispy duck, and the tacos were our favorites of the five. The cocktails were creative and tasted great. Our service was prompt, courteous, and just the right amount of checking in and leaving us to ourselves. We would definitely recommend the restaurant to others.
My wife and I came here for our 2 year anniversary and we absolutely loved it! We drove an hour and a half and will definitely make the drive just to eat there again. My wife is pregnant so they gave her a free glass of ginger ale and I got a free glass of champagne to toast for our anniversary. We ordered four different plates and they were absolutely amazing! The chief even came out to make sure we were pleased and to congratulate us as well as give us a free dessert. I absolutely loved this restaurant and highly recommend it to everyone!
I have eaten at Oro at least four times this year. The food has an Asian fusion flare and is scrumptious. Vegetarians and meat eaters have enough variety to satisfy both palates. Two small plates and you are full.
I am partial to the cauliflower and the salmon. At one time they had garlic string beans and they were great. Sorry they were taken off the menu. The wait staff is very attentive. The owner, Mr. Hylton, actually came out and walked around the restaurant and checked on his guests. Even though we were the last guests in the place, we didn't feel rushed.
The place is small which means you have to get your reservations in early. I tried to walk in a couple of times but was unsuccessful. Even the bar fills up fast on the weekends. I would strongly recommend you experience the place.
This was my second time at Oro, and it was fantastic! Kudos to Executive Chef/Owner Chris Hylton and his staff for creating a wonderful experience each time. Chef Hylton made a point to walk around the restaurant to greet his patrons and ensure meals were to satisfaction. I encourage everyone to give this place a try! It won't disappoint.
Oro was AMAZING!!! I love the tapas style where you can taste many different dishes! All of they plates that we ordered where delicious and the presentation was very nice too! And the portion size of all the plates larger than traditional tapas I would say. The charcuterie board was amazing! The truffle mac & cheese is addicting. And the s'mores dessert is a must; it comes with a little campfire cube to roast your marshmallows at the table!! Great place to go with a couple friends so you can order lots of places and try everything!!
I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. I've only been there twice (on weeknights), and both times the restaurant was empty. It's a bit pricey, but that's what you get for a small plate restaurant. We ordered 12 or 13 plates for 4 of us! Have Corry wait on you, you will not be disappointed:)
