ORO Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I came here for our 2 year anniversary and we absolutely loved it! We drove an hour and a half and will definitely make the drive just to eat there again. My wife is pregnant so they gave her a free glass of ginger ale and I got a free glass of champagne to toast for our anniversary. We ordered four different plates and they were absolutely amazing! The chief even came out to make sure we were pleased and to congratulate us as well as give us a free dessert. I absolutely loved this restaurant and highly recommend it to everyone!
I have eaten at Oro at least four times this year. The food has an Asian fusion flare and is scrumptious. Vegetarians and meat eaters have enough variety to satisfy both palates. Two small plates and you are full.
I am partial to the cauliflower and the salmon. At one time they had garlic string beans and they were great. Sorry they were taken off the menu. The wait staff is very attentive. The owner, Mr. Hylton, actually came out and walked around the restaurant and checked on his guests. Even though we were the last guests in the place, we didn't feel rushed.
The place is small which means you have to get your reservations in early. I tried to walk in a couple of times but was unsuccessful. Even the bar fills up fast on the weekends. I would strongly recommend you experience the place.
This was my second time at Oro, and it was fantastic! Kudos to Executive Chef/Owner Chris Hylton and his staff for creating a wonderful experience each time. Chef Hylton made a point to walk around the restaurant to greet his patrons and ensure meals were to satisfaction. I encourage everyone to give this place a try! It won't disappoint.
Oro was AMAZING!!! I love the tapas style where you can taste many different dishes! All of they plates that we ordered where delicious and the presentation was very nice too! And the portion size of all the plates larger than traditional tapas I would say. The charcuterie board was amazing! The truffle mac & cheese is addicting. And the s'mores dessert is a must; it comes with a little campfire cube to roast your marshmallows at the table!! Great place to go with a couple friends so you can order lots of places and try everything!!
I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. I've only been there twice (on weeknights), and both times the restaurant was empty. It's a bit pricey, but that's what you get for a small plate restaurant. We ordered 12 or 13 plates for 4 of us! Have Corry wait on you, you will not be disappointed:)
Food quality was excellent. Service staff was excellent. Menu selection was great. I had the fish special, perhaps the best ever. We like that the Oro folks don't load you up with potatoes to make you think your money's worth was served. Portions are appropriate for mature adults and quite tasty. The sauces are good and the asparagus was great.
We went for restaurant week and the food was hit-or-miss. Some dishes (green pea soup, lamb shank, chocolate mousse) were very good, while others (BBQ shrimp, roasted beets) not so much. I was especially disappointed by the BBQ shrimp. I am by no means a BBQ expert but the sauce tasted like it was from a cheap bottle at the grocery store, which is a sin in the Carolinas. Also need to keep in mind that this is a tapas place, so even during restaurant week the courses were on the small side.
The experience was fine, nothing outstanding though. Went there for a birthday occasion during restaurant week.
The 3 course menu was served within 30 minutes, and felt we were rushed to maximize turn-over. Food was very tasty, though the salad was minuscule and the lamb was barely warm.
Bottom line. Ok experience, but many better options downtown Raleigh.
My only complaint is that the tables are very close together and you cannot have a conversation. For a girls night or something like that it is great. But not for a romantic date night. Food was delicious, nice wine selection, good cocktails. Chef stopped by table to welcome us, always a good thing. Waiter was attentive and fun.
We were anticipating a food lovers delight and were very disappointed with the mediocre food. The atmosphere and vibe are wonderful, the service and friendliness is excellent but the food just didn't meet expectation. It's a great concept but the execution is lacking.
Lackluster, wilted strawberry salad; boring lamb chops and ribs that tasted day old.
On the bright side, the mushroom risotto is totally worth the trip!
We are gluten free and there were great options but just wasn't all that flavorful.
This was our first time trying Oro, and we were very pleased. The food was excellent. We each ordered two small plates, with one extra to share, and we ended up with quite a bit left over. My favorite dish was the chicken and green tomato with the Sriracha ranch. The service was very good.
I took my husband for our "date night" dinner. Reservation was easily made. We arrived early and they were ready for us. Drinks were fast and lovely. We ordered 5 dishes and all came out perfectly timed and AMAZING! Presentation was fabulous. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and very accommodating. Drinks / Water was always full and she cleared plates as needed. Overall, 100% satisfied!
ORO has the makings of a great restaurant, but fell short this evening. Nice aesthetics, food and service was just OK. I truly expected more of a WOW factor. Very disappointed with the fried chicken and green tomato- basically a half-cooked chicken tender and a terrible tomato. I don't expect I'll return in the near future.
The service was great and the food came out quickly. The food was hit or miss. Some of the dishes were good but a few were bland. It is also described as food for shared plates or individual meals. Really, it should more be appetizers and entrees. It was okay but I'm not sure I would go back.
