This was the worst venue I have possible ever been to.
I specifically requested a table for 5 and confirmed this twice on the phone beforehand. On arrival I was given a booth for four people. Eventually we were moved to a table for 5 but very reluctantly and told they would need it back in 45 minutes.
We then waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our breakfast to arrive by which point we all had to leave.
I was given the explanation only 1 chef was working.
This was completely unacceptable and for anyone trying to use this restaurant for a business meeting I would firmly
advise against it.
Restaurant was very slow, but it was 5:00 on a Sunday. Ordered cocktails and Spinach Artichokes Dip. Cocktails served and dinner order taken. Dinner came out before appetizer . Explained that a kitchen mistake was made and would not be charged for appetizer. My question is it was so slow how could such a mustKe be made unless the kitchen crew was on break and never saw the appetizer. Dinner was good. Waiter was nice.

Getting water refills took forever! The salad was practically wilted, and soup & salad took about 45 minutes, even though the place was not crowded.
We will return! The food and environment are great!
I arrived at 7:55 for 8:00 reservations, waited along with 20+ other people for hostess who did not reappear until 8:10 to take our name. I asked how long until we would be seated, and she let me know that she could tell me in 15 minutes how long we would have to wait to be seated. We would have to wait until 8:30 to find out when we would be seated for an 8:00 reservation? We cancelled our reservation and left. We went to Morton’s and had an incredible meal.
We had reservations for 8pm New Years Eve. We were not seated until after 9, and did not receive the check until close to 11:15. The poor waitstaff were severely understaffed, and although they did their best it was simply not enough. Most of our courses were cold, and overall it put a severe damper on our evening. Although there was a discount, it came on behalf of the waiter and not the hotel itself, and ultimately was little compensation. I will never come back.
As trendy of a spot as this place may be my husband and I were very disappointed New Year's eve. The prime fixe menu choice selections were great, the problem was the overall presentation of the restaurant and food. My husband's quail and risotto plate wasn't good in flavor. I went with the lamb chops, which were DELICIOUS! The only problem was after such a long wait, during their not so busy time, we had a 6 o'clock reservation, my pureed squash was brought out cold. As if it was sitting plated before the chops were added. Such a disappointment considering the price paid. Earlier in the week we took our family over to Cappy's downtown, they are ALWAYS consistent in their quality of food and service, definitely worth EVERY penny!!
Very friendly staff and good food. They were able to accommodate a last minute change in our reservation on Christmas Day. Very enjoyable!
Although personnel was very nice and willing to accommodate, service fell short. Waited for a seat when not busy. Requested a glass of wine and waited. Ordered a vegetable in place of starch and got fries. Host checked and offered his services but everything fell short of expectations.
I ordered the chicken blt and it was delicious! Would definitely recommend
We were along way from home and not sure where we would have our Thanksgiving dinner. We had a party of ten! They were very accommodating. Thanksgiving dinner was fabulous! Thanks!!!
Thanksgiving dinner was horrible! We selected the prefixed dinner and was very disappointed. Not much turkey, no gravey on turkey and we we asked for gravey, we got it about 10 minutes later. Got one roll each and they we stale. And the only desert offered was pecan pie. Really! No pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving??? We have had better Turkey at diners and Blackeye Peas when they were open. No wonder no reservations were available @ the Menger! Wouldn't go here food again!
Ate there twice on our trip to San Antonio over Thanksgiving weekend. We were staying in the hotel. They made a big deal about getting a table reserved for Thanksgiving dinner, as though it was very difficult to get a reservation, and we were lucky to have been able to get one. Two days before Thanksgiving, I got a call to confirm. Once at the hotel, someone called 15 minutes before our reservation saying our table was ready. I told her we would be right down. One minute later someone else called to tell us our table was ready. I assured him we were going to be there in a couple of minutes. We got there and the restaurant was half empty. The Thanksgiving turkey dinner was cold . One member of our party ordered chicken. She said it wasn't good. We went there for breakfast because we just needed to eat something and be on our way. The restaurant opens at 7:00am. We there got a few minutes after 7:00am and no one was around. Finally, we found a very unenthusiastic waitress . The coffee was terrible, the eggs benedict was served on white bread and the french toast I had was rubbery egg mess. And in the cold light of day, I could see that the restaurant we not very clean.
Great service, delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Yummy white Russian and best coffee I've had in awhile. Attentive, friendly service. A little pricey.
Very disappointing experience. I had eaten there a few years ago and enjoyed the great view of Alamo and the meal. There was no view at all due to construction on the roof. Both of our meals were quite bland. My guest had a steak that was also over-cooked. Did not have the wine we selected. Very bland food.

The options for restaurant week were delicious. The wait staff was attentive and very friendly. Our waitress even put candles on my dessert and sang happy birthday to me. Great experience over all!
We were the only people in the dining room on a Saturday night- should have been a clue- and we still waited over an hour for our entrees, one of which had to be sent back because it was, not only overcooked, because t quite disgusting. The service was horrendous. Waiting 20 minutes for another drink when no one is in the dining room but yourselves and 5 people are at the bar is unacceptable. Our waiter was constantly off the floor back in the kitchen- which could have been on a the other side of the hotel- because he was always gone. Never checked on us- manager came up and apologized for wait. We sent back the ravioli special. It tasted like corn dogs, and got the dry, marginally better sea bass instead. The bread pudding was the worst dessert I have ever had a restaurant; dry, over cooked croutons with banana and Nutella on it, a five year old could have made it, and made it better. In general, the chef must suck- food was just bad, bad, bad. Paid $18 for parking to boot. Never again.
They took the reservation for 10 people but not even close to be ready for us. It took hours to get the food and almost no one got what they ordered. Order for one person was completely missed. They were way under staffed. Not a good experience. They have serious management problems. the food was good.
Terrible. We have been to Oro twice for Valentine's Day and had a great time, so we decided to go and enjoy their regular menu. There was no hostess to greet us. After standing at the podium for 7 to 8 minutes, my boyfriend had to go to the front lobby for assistance. We were seated and waited an additional 10 minutes before anyone asked if we've been helped. The bartender became our waiter from that point on. Took forever to get our drinks and appetizer. Fifteen minutes after ordering our main dishes, we were told they were out of filet mignon. The swordfish was very dry and flavorless. We were seated by the bar and there was the most obnoxious group right besides us who were very loud. Was not anything I expected and/or experience at Oro during their holiday pre fix meal event. Don't think we'll come again
It must have been an off night as the experience was disappointing. We waited over an hour for our entrees when there weren't very many of us dining at 7 pm Friday. Our waiter did inform us it would be awhile after 45 mi . My salmon was fair. It tasted like a bottle of chipotle sauce had been poured on top. My husband had the filet which was thick and way over cooked. He was unable to finish it do our server took it off his bill.

Overall experience was very poor, worst we have had in a long time. We dined there Saturday night at 7:30. We ordered a bunch of food that took well over an hour. I ordered mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and they literately came out after our meal, so an hour and a half for mozzarella sticks. The waiter kept saying our food was coming, and he was sorry. My daughter ordered chicken nuggets and he brought out everyone's food and kept saying those were coming next. Then he comes back and says they are out of chicken nuggets. So an hour and a half into them cooking our meal, and the "chicken nuggets are on the way" turns out they realized they didn't have any? How did they not know they didn't have chicken nuggets the whole time? Ask the cook or waiter, true story. Crazy experience I have ever seen, never go back. Was expensive too and food was not very good at all.
Waited an hour to order; found out 30 min later that they didn't have steak; then 15 min came back and said they do have steak but no seafood. When asked how long until the food would take they said 60 minutes. Wait, what! After sitting for two hours they just found out that they don't have our order and it will take another hour to get our order. And there are only two other tables with people. Felt lied to and disrespected. Do not go to this restaurant, you will regret it!
On a business trip and staying at Emily Morgan Hotel (excellent) and tried the hotel restaurant on first night. Did not return. To be fair, the food was fine but service and ants (yes, live ants) on the table were too much for this foodie to overcome. When raised with the restaurant manager, he acknowledged they had an ant problem. Enough said. Plenty of other options nearby.
It was a little concerning when you walk into a greatly reviewed restaurant in a conference city at 8pm at night and you are the only ones there. We had a party of 10, so we made a reservation, but there was no need to do so. The ambiance is nice, but the food quality was okay. Staff seemed a little short handed, but not sure why since we were their only party.
I was a bit skeptical because the restaurant still had reservations during a huge conference, when many other restaurants were booked. When we arrived, there were very few people, which made it a bit more concerning. However, the experience was very satisfactory - the food and drinks were good, service prompt and attentive and decor was appropriate. Someone in the group commented that it looks like it had a major uplift since the last time he was there, so maybe the restaurant is trying to revamp.
Oustanding in every aspect. Food was excellent and service was top notch.
We were having a very good time the food was excellent however I was very upset that when we got the bill there was an 18% Gratuity charge already built in. We were only two people and no where on the reservation nor the menu did it say they would build in this service fee. I thought it was very dishonest to try and sneak this in, most people probably didn't even look that closely at the bill since it was Valentines day and no one wants to look like a cheap skate. I will never go there again. The waiters service was not worth the $32 dollar tip.
Dined at Oro for Valentines dinner and was very pleased. Server was attentive but not intrusive. Five course meal was timed perfectly, and food was delicious. Had several different martinis at the bar afterwards and all were perfectly made. I will be back!
Service was great...until we were charged someone else's bill..it was reversed (after two days) then charged correctly for the bill..but still..the rest of the money won't be returned til two days later. So it was like we were charged twice.
Food was fantastic.
The food at the Thanksgiving buffet was good but the service we received was terrible. Our waiter was extremely slow in clearing away our plates and was it took forever to get a refill our water, coffee and tea. The desserts were nice to look at the the taste was rather bland, the lemon meringue pie was too sweet and was lacking in lemon flavor and the cookies tasted like cardboard. I would go back next year and hope we do not get the same waiter.
We had to travel on Thanksgiving day so we wanted a family-friendly experience with our kids before we had to board a plane. Oro provided that experience and then some. We were able to eat a great Thanksigiving lunch, then walk across the street to the Alamo and explore. It was perfect. Thanks for providing such a great experience.

Oro at Emily Morgan is an undiscovered gem. The food is good - the service was good and there were not many people. Going to dinner prior to the symphony at the Tobin Center , this is an excellent choice - it is a 10 minutes walk and Oro has valet parking.
We will do this again.
The Mac and three cheese really was the best we had ever had. We also had the avocado and heirloom tomato salad which was delicious. The brisket springrolls were very inventive and tasty. Drinks were very good as well-my wife had the cucumber martini and I had an old fashioned. Service was excellent. Our only complaint was that our particular booth was wicked uncomfortable. I would definitely return, I'd just ask for different seating.
We waned to try something new so we went downtown to Oro. The staff assumed we were tourists like almost everyone who eats here. It was actually fun acting as tourists in a beautiful restaurant across from the Alamo. I wanted chillquilles and mentioned to our server how everyone had their own interpretation on this local classic. The chef certainly does! With char-grilled chicken and homemade salsa verde I know I will return for more. Oro is a great downtown gem with highly original creations and a beautiful relaxing restaurant.
The dining room of this hotel was entirely empty during lunch when I went despite being located directly across from the Alamo. Prices are high for mediocre food and well meaning but poorly trained staff. I was excited by the description of the brisket spring roll but when it came, I had to remove some paper towel remnant from the wrapping process and the brisket was indiscernible. The best part of the dish was a smear of a spicy, smokey BBQ sauce on the plate. Had the Cobb salad with chicken which was overpriced and really poor. Tomatoes were improperly prepared and stems not removed before chopping. Corn was definitely frozen which is fine if you give it some char for flavor. Staff were really ill trained but well meaning.
When seated, some of our party had no cutlery and more had no bread plate. We were provided no menus. After an initial drink order, we were given fewer menus than we had diners and asked to share. After we ordered, we were ignored by waitstaff for 45 minutes. We asked about the status of our meals and were told that it would be another 10-15 minutes. Food was delivered about an hour after we ordered. Food quality was mediocre. Easily among the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had.
