We each look forward to welcoming you to Oriole.
What Insiders Are Saying
Oriole is a fancy and expensive tasting menu restaurant that’s great for a special occasion.
Fantastic as always
fine dining at its best. superb tasting menu with each course seamlessly following the next. not a fault
Dinner at Oriole is one of the very best meals in the United States, and my favorite in Chicago. Just for context, I have dined at all the Michelin three star restaurants in the US, and just about all the two star restaurants. I have now four times this year traveled by plane to Chicago with this restaurant as my primary destination. Chef Sandoval is humble, gracious, and an extraordinary talent. His wife, Cara, who manages the restaurant and assists in the service is an absolute delight, warm, attentive, and the staff all seem very happy to be where they are. This of course all the more enhances one's appetite. The opener of golden Osetra caviar with cured hamachi, dill and saffron, au beurre, at my last visit two nights ago is one (or two or three) of he best bites on the planet. It just rolls on from there, with creative, imaginative and yummy courses that leave one at the end of about ten approachable courses with the satisfied serene smile of sublime satiation and bliss. I have usually ordered the wine pairing, which has been an excellent touch with no pretense, and appropriately selected from a variety of wine styles and continents, Japan included with a delicious sake course. I am very much looking forward to my next dinner at Oriole, already booked.
One of the most amazing meals ever! Every bite was flavorful and spot on. The service was impeccable. The wine pairings were perfect. I have zero complaints about Oriole. Start to finish...it was perfection!
Great food and wine pairing- but cannot compare PPP w/ Pastel in Montreal however cannot say which one is better between P & O only about taste besides price
- must try: jamon mangalica, foie gras, capellini, Junmai Daiginjo "Divine Droplets" & Tokaji Aszu "5 Puttonyos" 2008
Super expensive, but worth it for food as art. Once in a lifetime experience, like seeing a great broadway show.
The food was probably the best we've ever eaten in our fairly restaurant-ridden lives. Full of surprises, subtlety, variety, fantasy. Service, at reception and our main waitress [Erica], was superb. Have a few reservations which don't really take away from our positive view.
Everything was flawless - from the service to the food to the impeccable spirit-free drink pairings. The best meal I've ever had, with the most thoughtful non-alcoholic drink pairings to go with them. I was blown away by this meal. My boyfriend has now tried every pre-fixe only restaurant in Chicago and said the food and drink pairings were the best he's had.
Absolutely wonderfully executed tasting menu. Some wonderful surprises and an amazing use of pH and acids in each dish. A true roller coaster of depth and brightness in their dishes. The NA pairing was truly unique. Something they take pride in rather than an aside. High recommendation.
Simply amazing. By far the best restaurant in Chicago. Deserves 3 Michelin stars.
Our meal was spectacular! The service was pleasant and efficient. The dishes themselves were beautifully presented and delicious! The restaurant space has a neat vibe. We had an early reservation and got to enjoy the space with natural light as well as see the ambiance change as it got dark! This might be the best meal that I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve eaten at some lovely restaurants! Kudos to Chef Sandoval and the whole team! We will be back.
Hands down one of the best dining experiences I have ever had...! I’ve lived in Chicago for the last 7 years and consider myself a food and drink lover! When I made the reservations, I had no idea the outcome would be what it was. Every staff member was friendly and knowledgeable. The drink pairings with the food far exceeded any expectations I had. I am used to having a nice glass of wine or bottle with my meal, and I rarely venture out of what I know I like. However, this pairing allowed me to try several different beverages and they went so well with the food!
As all reviews stated, the food is amazing! Each serving I was saying ‘oh my god, that’s amazing’... flavorful to say the least! It’s an experience and an amazing spot to celebrate any special occasion or just life in general!
This is one of the best meals I have had. Absolutely stunning and delightful. It’s a wonderful food journey from ocean to land. The texture, combination and taste are so complex yet exceptionally balanced. The selection of wine is outstanding too.
Excellent service to match the chef driven and extremely imaginative and deliciously tasty two star Michelin dishes. Service is impeccable. The wine list is thoughtful and well curated and will notbreak the bank. The Japanese wagu beef grade 5 - I believe- course was my favorite. Additionally, the preparation on the sea bass was excellent.
Oriole is a very good and innovative restaurant. They seemed to have a serious team of young industry talent. My husband and I really appreciated what they do but for the price point, it wasn't quite there for us. The flavor combinations were really very nice, presentation pretty. There were some things that shouldn't happen when paying a certain price point for a tasting experience. For example, the oyster was overpowered by the flavor of the greens/garnish and we did not get that nice ocean oyster taste. I wasn't able to get the flavor of the oyster. The sauce for the Wagyu was extremely salty, the piece of meat was fantastic but the salt in the sauce took away from the experience. The chef attempted sushi. The quality of the flavor of the fish was good but not the best we've had. It wasn't off the charts and the rice wasn't mastered. I mention this as many of the guests may have dined at top rated sushi restaurants. A sommelier wasn't introduced. Maybe our host was a sommelier but I wasn't sure. The nice girl that cleared our plates lacked a bit of refinement / elegance in doing so (i'm only being this picky due to the price point of the restaurant). The music was a good vibe but it was a bit too loud for the particular experience. It made it harder to focus on the flavors of the menu. The service was avery attentive from the personal confirmation text, greeting, clearing the table, escorting us, hand written happy anniversary note, offering us champagne for our first course while our drinks were being made etc. The space is very cool and is elegant yet not too stuffy.
This is the finest tasting menu I have had in Chicago, and far and away the best service. I regret I can only give 5 stars, I'd give 6/5 if I could. The staff truly cares about your experience, and you feel cared about as a guest. Sometimes it feels as if a Michelin star rating is taken for granted, but not so here—they really do deserve all the accolades bestowed upon them. And of course, the Japanese fusion cuisine is perfectly prepared, with exquisite wine pairings.
We've eaten at great restaurants in 3 continents and we were fully satisfied and pleased with this eating and entertainment experience. It's pointless to argue about levels of greatness. Read the reviews to understand the experience, go if you're happy to pay the bill for the food tasting and the almost necessary wine tasting and presentation entertainment, and then let yourself go.
One note: I segregated out the "VIP" reviews to read separately, looking for wisdom and they were essentially useless -- about individual egos and not the restaurant.
Wonderful evening celebrating our anniversary. The pairing was beautiful with the tasting. Such a treat for us to experience!
We went here to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday, and Oriole did not dissapoint. Every dish was fantastic and the service was 5 stars and beyond. Every element of your diner is tastefully done and you leave planning your next dinner here. We will definitely be back.
everything was as expected .could not be better.it was a great evening.
Absolutely wonderful experience from the minute you walk in the door till you are leaving!!!
excellent, cozy, sophisticated yet very casual fine dining.
Outstanding cuisine & experience deserving of 2 Stars - Well worth the splurge!
Staff were amazing, made a fuss over my friends birthday but so genuine. We were travelling from overseas and honestly this restaurant is right up there. I’ll be planning my next trip to Chicago just to dine again.
Food was also amazing as was both wine pairings... the only criticism we had was that we felt slightly rushed. We had a late booking but it should not matter if the time is accepted. That said this place is sensational and would recommend to anyone.
A big thank you to the team at Oriole! Might see you next year.
Oriole was over the top fantastic! The atmosphere, the food, the staff was an unbelievable experience. Can’t say enough about the evening.
This was my 10th time there. Every time I have been delighted, and have left looking forward to my next visit. While I am publicly hoping that Noah, Cara, and the rest of the excellent staff pick up their well-deserved third star, I am secretly hoping they don’t so that I can still get an occasionally available reservation. Go now before you can’t.
Easily one of Chicago’s best. Every course is perfect.
Oriole is our favorite special occasion place in Chicago. The service is impeccable, the food is exquisite. It well deserves its Michelin Stars.
Absolutely incredible. The food is amazing. Some of the best dishes I’ve ever had and I say that having had 20+ high end tasting menus around the world. While the crazy flair of say Albea, isn’t there as much, the quality and flavors of the food are even higher.
The staff knew it was our anniversary and even gave us a card signed by all, even Chef Noah. He and his wife were very engaged all evening and very personable.
I can’t recommend enough.
Best meal we have ever had. Everything from food to service to pairings (non alcoholic and wine) were just amazing.
Best restaurant in the city! Impeccable service. Outstanding food. Can’t wait to return!
Absolutely amazing! I was so impressed with how they catered to my dairy allergy- even the stuff that needed modified looked very similar to my boyfriends. The other 2 Star Michelin restaurants in Chicago were unable to accommodate a dairy allergy which was part of the reason we chose Oriole. You will not be disappointed by dining at Oriole!
An exceptional restaurant in all areas - food was outstanding and presented in a beautiful manner. All staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about each dish. The non-alcoholic beverage pairings were also excellent.
Great food. Unusually good service and friendly staff. The tasting menu is definitely worth the price. The wine pairing is a little over priced.
Well developed and thoroughly thought out menu. Like reading a story with your tongue. Jaw dropping flavors. Perfectly seasoned food. Needed absolutely nothing. Blown away.
Even if your expectations are high, Oriole will exceed them.
A true gem in Chicago.
We absolutely loved this place, came as strong recommendation from friends we trust . By all means it’s special occasion place and everything is superb . The food is probably one of the best experiences I have had , we try to do this level restaurantsfew times per year so we have been to most Chicago spots of this or similar kind , that being said most of them deserve their respectable reputation but Oriole could be my favorite . Go there and enjoy !
Amazing experience. The attention to detail in the food was incredible, but the service might have even been more impressive. Thank you Oriole.
Lovely. Small & intimate. Impeccable but friendly staff. And flawless food.
