Valentines Dinner. It was crowded and food came out slower than normal. Fixed menu for Valentines. Seafood was great.
Was surprised to see service stall out so much. Asked for rice three times. Bread came almost at the end of the meal. Had to get up from table and walk across the room to ask for coffee refill. Pretty disappointed knowing I been coming here for so long
Always a good time. Top notch food and service. Can’t beat it for a romantic night out.
Love this place.
Yes its a wonderful dining experience and the fixed price menu provides excellent value
This is our 3rd time spending our anniversary with Roy's Hawaii Kai. Truly amazing food, service and atmosphere. See you soon Roy's!
Food was excellent
The Original Roy's has always been my favorite. The food is good, although this time around, the Kale Ceasar was just too salty. Everything else we ordered was very tasty. The service awesome! Very attentive.
Our server was friendly and attentive, but the food was mediocre at best. Asked what the difference was between the Dorado and the Mahi-mahi, and was told none....they just needed more menu options??? I choose the macadamia nut encrusted Dorado. The thicker half of the fish was not edible, under cooked and unenjoyable, and lacked the ‘mac’.
The dining room was uncomfortably loud, would have preferred dining downstairs at the bar area with live guitarist. Note to self! Our reservation was after the sun went down, therefore the best reason for going to this restaurant was lacking. The upstairs ambiance is just not so good.
We always enjoy our dining experience at Roy’s. It is wonderful to be recognized as regular customers and treated as such. Highly recommend Roy’s. Service is always amazing. Food delicious. Servers very accommodating
Lovely experience. Dining upstairs was very intimate and great for a post elopement wedding dinner. General Manager was wonderful and congratulated personally. Downstairs was great for a quick bite and drinks. Also had live music outside on the night we were there. Will be back when we visit the island.
Everything was top of the line; the food and the service.
One of my all time favorites. Excellent food, excellent service, and a place to go back to time and again.
2 of our party had the Butter Fish and they were violently ill from the middle oft the night for the next 36 hours -
Amazing food and awesome service! Thank you so much!
Great as always!
Food was wonderful! Gotta try the brusselsprout salad. Service was superb!
I have been coming to Roy's since the early days when Roy would answer the phone and make reservations. Those days are gone. The Hawaii Kai Roy's does not compare to the Roy's in Waikiki or Koolina. The portions were too small for the price. If the bar upstairs is functional, they make terrible cocktails. When Reiner was behind the bar, during the golden years, and Roy was cooking......it was one of the finest eating experiences in the world. Today, Roy's Hawaii Kai is a relic of its past glory. If I go back.....it will be to just have a drink downstairs. Honestly, far more bang for the buck and a great bar, great steaks......the Outback, 100 feet away is a much better dining experience. Actually, Assaggios is a better experience than Roy's Hawaii Kai....and I never thought I would say this. Roy's Hawaii Kai is now in it's Edgar Allan Poe years.
Always a great place to dine.
Unlike many other "iconic" restaurants Roy’s manages to live up to the hype
I’ve been eating at Roy’s restaurants, including Hawaii Kai for many many years - and always a good meal.
Food is always reliable, generous portions, and often reasonable. The four of us all enjoyed a 3 course pre-fix this visit for $50 per person ($70 with wine pairing). Great value for a nice appetizer, beautiful piece of Ono, and a wonderful chocolate soufflé . They called it a Soufflé, although more a warm, molten filled chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream. Never the less terrific. The piece of Ono, a la carte was $42. So, $50 for all three courses we thought was very fair.
The original Roy’s is one of our favorite places to go it’s in our neighborhood and the food is consistently excellent great views of the bay and wonderful service
I want to commend Stacy our waitress. She was outstanding.
Thank you Stacy for making our night with our grandson memorable.
The food at Roy's was delicious! Would order the same again. I had a seafood chowder, except when it came, the "chowder" was a delicious sauce at the bottom of the bowl. Excellent because you don't fill up on the liquid and have room to enjoy the delicious seafood. The shrimp was the best, nice and sweet. The scallops were huge, fish was done perfectly and crab was so ono! My husband had the rib steak. It was delicious and tender.
Fixed price meal was a good deal. But the short ribs needed more flavor. Soft but it needed more salt.
I am never disappointed when I go to a Roy's restaurant. This was my first time at the Original Roy's in Honolulu and my family and I enjoyed the experience enormously.
Special dinner plan was met with rude unwelcoming host and ended with just ok food. (But the oysters were fabulous.) But the server taking care of us was awesome. Unfortunately, would not recommend and would never return.
Been coming here forever. It just keeps getting better. Never disappointed. Roy keeps the traditional dishes that made him famous and always has new dishes to try. My favorite restaurant on Oahu!
Great food, good service, cost was reasonable. However the sound level would be too high for an intimate dinner, so only go for casual dinners
Great evening with the family! Only wished I was informed beforehand of the special menu for holiday.
Service as always was awesome! Love this one the best!!
Original Roy's New Year's Eve Prix Fixe Dinner. I've been here several years in a row for this dinner service and tonight was my least favorite. We had a 630 reservation and once we found our way through the deceptively labelled 4-course meal (which was actually 5 courses), we were able to order. Unfortunately, the first course was oysters on the half shell, which none of us could eat, so our waiter offered the chef's substitution--sliced tomatoes. Yeah, you read that right...sliced tomatoes. I was in a bit of disbelief, but ok, bring it on. It arrived. Not at all impressed. Sliced tomatoes. Then things started to slow down. Rea.l.l.y..s..l..o..w...d...o....w....n. It became apparent that the kitchen--so early on in this long evening-- had already gone into the weeds. It would take a total of 45 minutes for the kitchen to then produce a small salad and a cup of chowder as the next two courses. Our waiter was open about what was going on and he was completely apologetic. He offered and comp'd a glass of pinot noir for the one person in our party who drinks. The other two of us nursed a glass of water, that was refilled many, many times over the following 40 minutes--before our entrees arrived. When they did arrive, they were fine. There was nothing exciting or notable about any of them. At a time when other celebrated island chefs are resting on their laurels and becoming stale, I've come to expect more from Original Roy's. Geez, it's your flagship restaurant, Chef. Honestly, this meal was neither worth the $335 (w/tip for 3 people) nor the effort to drive out to Hawaii Kai. It was perfectly fine and edible, but it was no better than what other restaurants in town are doing. I'm pretty disappointed, because Roy's just had their big blow-out 30th anniversary celebration and I figured they would be on their game. It just didn't happen. I think I'll stay in town for dinner from now on.
Heard so much about this place and so we tried it--but was very disappointed. The food was fair and the service less so. The noise in the restaurant was intolerable--
Great food, great service. Looking forward to the next time.
We have been to many Roys - this was a bad experience. In a strip mall, dining room was crowded and noisy, service was spotty. Food service was rush (one course on top of the other) and the food (aside front the AHI appetizer) was not up to Roy quality flavors or standards.... maybe time to close or revamp this location
Over the top. Such a wonderful meal and such attentive service.
Our favorite restaurant in Hawaii, Roy’s has consistently excellent food. We always come here to celebrate special occasions.
Wish the new Kailua Roy’s had the same menu as the original!
Outstanding service and the overall meal was scrumptious....
Took our daughter to Roy’s to celebrate her birthday. Service was excellent. They made note of her birthday with a decorated panacotta. We were able to get a table with a view. Food was delicious as usual.
Roy’s never disappoints! I have been coming here for the past two years and the service and food is always amazing! Can’t wait to be back again!
Great, great, great!! Strip mall location okay, but the rest is excellent. Wish outdoor dining didn’t include the road/traffic going by, but the views of the sunset are still worth it. Best food!
