We got there just as they opened. Had a couple of Roy’s special martinis. Excellent. Butterfish was amazing. Finished off with mountain lava cake with ice cream. Perfect combo.
Was disappointed in our meal because we had two children with us, 10 and 11 and only one Keiki appetizer set was brought, had to ask for another. Proper bread was not brought for the escargot. Our coffees were refilled with cold coffee from a carafe that probably had been sitting around.
Food was good but not great. Normally The food here is excellent. Sushi was excellent but the Angus Ribeye steak was served slightly warm at best. Lumpia banana dessert was good but not as expected. Service was good but lacked the service I was use to at this location. In the past, service was excellent but this visit it seemed to be a bit off beat.
The reviews were overrated. The commercial food industry has taken the original charm and flavor form the kitchen. The service was mediocre but the few staff members encountered were polite. I went expecting the greatest stake ever but got mostly fat could of settled for Outback steak house next door. The staff made up for the experience.
We love Roy’s! It is our favorite restaurant for a special occasion. The food is always delicious!
Might I suggest you add some accompaniment to the scallops? The scallops were excellently prepared with a lovely sauce but they were a bit lonely on the plate with no sides!
An almost perfect dining experience. Every now and then, open your wallet, forget about the cost, and enjoy Roy's. The 2nd floor dining room at the Original restaurant is serene.
Check-in was efficient as we had dinner reservations. We had requested a table to watch the sunset. We were seated at a table pushed up against a wall/pole in the middle of one section of the room with a table right behind me. Our dining chairs bumped into each other making it difficult for me to sit properly. We were greeted by the waiter and he got our drink orders. We then put in our dinner orders promptly. The drinks & salad were served. We ordered 2 rounds of drinks and we were served with countless cups of water. We waited exactly one hour for our food to come out after we sat down. We had a feeling something was going on and thought maybe they didn't put in our dinner order. Then after 50 minutes or so, our waiter noticed something was wrong as no food was on table. Then dinner was served. We ate dinner and the food was great. The waiter came and advised dessert would take 30 minutes so if we want something we should put in the order now. So we did. Then the manager comes over and apologized for the dinner mix-up. We appreciated it. He then comped dessert. Then when the bill came out, the 1st round of drinks were comped too. We appreciate that too. The takeaway from my birthday celebration was dinner should not take an hour to be served. The ambiance, food & service all count towards the whole experience. If any of these items are lacking, then it ruins the experience. This didn't ruin my birthday but we didn't leave feeling like we should give a 5 star review either. We still left a 20% gratuity because it isn't the waiter's fault.
I was very upset. I specifically asked for a spot by the window in the corner and we sat by the service station. My chair was accidentally kicked a couple times. The food was pretty good but the soup didn't have the clams that you usually get. I was there the night before and my friends had a beautiful presentation. I did not! And I wished the server would have checked in more and on it. Just not as good as usual. The night before, I was downstairs with Ryiley and had the best service ever!
Amazing service and the food was terrific!
Always top shelf
One of our favorite restaurants in Oahu. We first visited Roy's in 1991 and visit whenever we return.
The food at Roy's was great, delicious with wonderful presentations. The view is lovely. Our main server was not very attentive and made us feel very rushed. I find it odd that you make a reservation and still have to wait for your table. Seems they are overbooking as many tables with reservations were waiting.
Roy's is 'our place' and we dine here on a regular basis. The butterfish is superb, and the service is outstanding. We lack for nothing while we are there. From the moment we walk through the door until the moment we leave, we are treated as honored and valued guests. We love Roy's Hawaii Kai!
The food was fantastic! The support staff were on top of their game. Our server however appeared to be too busy to spend anytime with us. He acted like a sprinter in his starting blocks ready to run off to the next table. Not sure what the staffing levels were that night but he was preoccupied with other tasks.
Very noisy atmosphere and not great for a romantic evening. But the food was the best we had while on the island.
Very expensive and not a good variety. Menu was hard to read.
Food flavor was just okay
I celebrated my birthday with my sister and my father; and it was exquisite.
It was a nice atmosphere. The staff was super friendly and on spot with making sure water glasses were never empty and super attentive. The kids meal is the best deal ever!! Would definitely recommend everyone to go.
They knew it was our anniversary and everyone kept wishing us a happy anniversary as they walked by or waited on us. There was a handwritten card on the table for us when we were seated. At the end of our delicious meal, they presented us with dessert and champagne, compliments of the house. It was a memorable evening.
Excellent service, very good food and atmosphere! Would go again! Our server Carmen did an amazing job!
Great service and food was excellent
Stacy and Patrick were terrific Maholo
Best service and good ever!
Another amazing dinner at Roy’s. The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable (especially Stacey)!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for a fabulous dining experience on our 1st wedding anniversary. We had amazing service, amazing food and a beautiful sunset view. We felt like we were special guests and the staff just kept doing more and more. Our experience was superior! We will ALWAYS visit Roy's when we are in Hawaii. Our wedding night and our 1st anniversary are now in the books as "The Best" thanks to Roy's!
Food was delicious especially the tofu appetizer and the hamachi crisp. The fried snapper and ahi tuna were amazing. Very fresh fish and everything prepared beautifully! We were all delighted with our meal!
Fast courteous service delicious food great ambiance but a little pricey
Disappointed that they were out of their signature macadamia encrusted Mahimahi (the reason why we came). Went for the 16 oz. Angus Ribeye and was even more disappointed - it came out a bit cold, not seasoned enough and the daikon topping ruined the dish. Ordered a side order of white rice because there wasn’t enough potatoes for that amount of meat. Couldn’t eat all of the steak because I’d the strange daikon topping aftertaste, so we took it home to feed to our dogs.
Everything else was besides the steak was exemplary: the edemamme, the blackened ahi, the caprize salad and the chocolate soufflé.
As was the Pinot noir suggestion from the waiter. 👍🏽👍🏽
We celebrated our 59th wedding anniversary at Roy’s on August 13th, 2019. The food was fantastic, the service most gracious and the staff most welcoming. Will definitely be returning for our 69th!
Excellent food & service! The Butterfish is the best!!
The service is only second to the wonderful food and spectacular view at sunset. A romantic evening topped off with a delicious dinner and soufflé. Thanks Roy for a memorable evening.
Sincerely Jim and Xing Warneck.
Thank you for a beautiful evening and wonderful food.
Terrific service and ambiance (beautiful restaurant space with ocean view. Old time favorites are good and the new
dishes work well (try the mushroom tempura with truffles).
Cal joins the list of wonderful servers. Stacy and Chris are also wonderful. Food is great, location is terrific and the service outstanding
We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary with a beautiful sunset dinner! The food was excellent and the service awesome! We started off with a pineapple martini and a lychee-ginger drink. Both were delicious so we ordered 2 more! Stacy our awesome server recommended the grilled Brussels sprouts salad, it was amazing. My husband had the 16oz Beef Ribeye. It was a lot of meat! I couldn’t decide on scallops or butterfish so our awesome server said “I’ll surprise you”. She got me a little bit of both! So incredibly flavorful. We “checked in” on Yelp and got a free chocolate soufflé. We also ordered the green tea lava cake which is basically a green tea soufflé. Stacy brought us a Happy Anniversary guava panna cotta and 2 glasses of champagne! We had a lot to eat and it was all under $200! Such a Fantastic Evening!
Great table by the window! Stacy made my mom’s bday dinner awesome! She was attentive, conversational, and warm.
Wonderful wait staff, great food! Loved the sunset view.
Always superb! The food, ambience, and service are second to none...everytime.
Dinner was fabulous. As always. Our waiter, Dylan, is the absolute best. They took very good care of us for my brother’s birthday celebration.
Reservation: Via open table and was done with ease.
Service: Friendly, but with a multitude of people working on your table (multiple bus boys, one waiter, and several food runners) making a request was easy. However, actually getting what we asked for was a bit different which lead to us asking for items again. Still prompt and friendly overall.
Food: Appetizers were great, salad was ok (was told it’s a big salad, yet ended up being kind of small. Main course (had the 8oz filet and added on 4oz lobster tail) which is usually my go to choices at Roy’s tasted a bit saltier than normal which prompted me to down my ice tea faster than usual.
Ambiance: Nice atmosphere and view
