Great food. Amazing creations. Love the desserts. Definitely worth trying.
We wanted to try Origin before it closes next week, and we absolutely loved it- especially the tuna salad & bone marrow! Everything was fantastic- job well done
I travel and am frequently in To I always make a point of visiting Origin especially for their Chinois Duck! Also love their devilled eggs, the buffalo mozzarella,Brussel sprouts with Carm onions and pancetta and so much more
Fun to share plates. Service is always pleasant and reliable. Noise can be a problem but all else makes it worthwhile!
Devastated that chef is closing this space but look forward to his next project!
This was my first time visiting origin. I went with a group of friends for a late brunch. The service was fantastic, tostada was delicious, and they didn't be boot us out the door. Stayed for almost 3 hours and the server was still checking in on us. Highly recommend Forbes tasty brunch menu (the scones were *swoon*) and inexpensive mimosas.
The food is good, but the menu hasn't changed in what seems like years. I live just up the street but don't think I'll be coming back until the menu does.
When out steak was undercooked the chef and staff did everything to make it right. They made us a new steak and brought a complimentary appetizer. The staff were attentive the whole evening and the food was fresh and delicious.
I came to origin restaurant 3 times. I was totally disappointed by the last time. I took the tuna salad and it was not the same that the others times : not flavors balanced, too spicy, ingredients coarsely chopped. I don't want to go there one more time.
Maybe the chief was in vacation during christmas holidays...
The service was friendly but extremely slow. Been there a few times and I will take a break from it now. The appetizers were good but the Spanish fries (both orders) were passable at most.
Sorry just being honest
Service was a bit of a mixed bag.
I booked a table for 10 last Sunday at 1pm. Excellent food and service. We will definitely be back.
Good experience but draft your cold by the windows.
We went for Sunday brunch. The food was excellent, service was good (considering how busy it was, and the decor very attractive. The only downside was the overall noise level: difficult to carry on a conversation at our table.
We didn't really even know about this place but just picked it because of location, and our daughter living close by, had passed it and said it looked good. It was one of the best meals all of our party of 4 had had in a long time. All the dishes were superb and the best brussel sprouts ever. Even those who don't like them loved them! The raw tuna salad was excellent as well as the calmari. One of the diners is vegan and she was accomodated no problem. The drinks and wine list were very good. The service was great and our server was lovely...didn't get her name. We did not know the chef was a judge on Masterchef until we were told by someone else but I can see why. Presentation was beautiful too.
Thank-you so much.
The food was delicious and everything was presented beautifully. I'd only ever been there for brunch (which is also fantastic!) but I will go there in the evenings very often from now on.
Very nice, the food was superb....the wine selection was a disappointment, and the price bandwidth was shocking....shame it took the edge of what could have been a 5 star experience
We ate early before theatre tickets. Party going on in the upper bar area that was loud, but we were able to hear each other and enjoy our evening no problem. Servers were great and very attentive, but a little slow to pick up signals (ready to order, refills, check). Food and cocktails were delicious! Would definitely go back.
Everything about Origin was good, though if you're looking for a really special place this isn't it. Good ambiance (though perhaps a little dark for brunch) and a creative menu that could have perhaps been a little more generous in terms of portions.
Origin is a favourite place to dine every time I come to Toronto.
Great food. Great service.
Buffalo Mozzarella , Pears, Honey and Pine Nuts
Beet Salad are my wife's favourites.
Spicy chorizo fries were delicious as well as the burger.
Restaurant was great - only real issue is there was a table of 6 right beside us who were so loud it was hard to have a conversation - the restaurant might consider not having a 2 right beside a 6 as the tables are quite close together.
Been there 7 times.... there will be an 8th
Food service and ambiance just makes it all hapoen
Have been several times. Food is pricy - about 20% over where it should be - $44 for a tough strip loin is ridiculous. Most food is food but value is not great.
Really creative - at times brilliant- combinations of ingredients in a succession of tapas style dishes
Layers of flavor. Bartender fixed/changed our drink w/o a word and new drink was perfect. Great, great dinner
The restaurant ran out of scones at 11.30 am on Sunday. Very disappointing when you book for brunch and that is one of their key items. Very little flexibility in the menu; cannot substitute English muffin for toast. Very slow service.
Excellent restaurant. Original and tasty tapas. Good cocktails.
Origin is a very small, modern, tapas type restaurant. The tables are quite close together. This is my second time there, having been two years ago when I was in Toronto, and I had liked it so much that I returned. I decided to have three tapas entrees and forego dessert. I started with the buffalo mozzarella, honey, pine nuts and crostinis. This was incredibly delicious and the best dish of my meal, but also quite filling for one person. My only complaint would be that the bites were large and messy to eat. Next I had the beet and goat cheese salad which was lovely and beautiful and also really neat in flavor. Lastly I had the chicken tacos which were spicy and very fresh and delicious. The food here is very creative. I will definately be back next time I am in Toronto.
Went to Origin for their brunch, the service was just unbelievable. The level of attention paid was great, water was never empty, nor was coffee until we no longer wanted it. The meal was amazing, though the avocado toast has been better at times, still excellent. Will definitely return for more of the scones.
Good food, wine list could be larger and less obscure (or perhaps it is just my taste that is different?). Staff tried to be helpful, but in the end wine was not what I had wanted. Food was good, and well paced . Dessert was not memorable (dulce de leche, was really bland)
I will try it again, but not rushing back for now.
Will certainly return.
Had a nice brunch on the outdoor patio. Food was great, ambiance was wonderful and service was professional. Would definitely go back. Had the scones (to die for), and the Tostada Ranchero.
Excellent brunch location! The wait staff was excellent and very attentive. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. We really enjoyed the outside seating and the atmosphere. We would highly recommend starting with the boozy coffee and the deviled eggs + soufflétine, followed by the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and the French toast + duck confit. Overall, an excellent dining experience!
Great atmosphere with a view of St. James church and King Street. Eclectic menu with items to share or a larger portion for one. Good wine and cocktail list. Service was excellent and selection was sufficient to find good choices. Food was perfectly prepared, including the house made fries. Another favourite restaurant in Toronto and although we walked there, it's worth an hour drive.
I had placed a reservation for Alex Prunier for August 31 at 12:00 PM, and then called to move it to 12:30 PM.
When Mr. Prunier got to the restaurant, there was no reservation for him. I called the restaurant later that day to inquire on what had happened, and a lady told me that my reservation had been cancelled.
Was pleased it wasn't too noisy - could converse. Ordered six items and found them all quite good, especially the raw bar options and the kale salad (believe it or not). Servers were good at guiding on how much to order.
I do like this place. Service on the patio happened to be particularly poor this day. I was there with a client and after repeatedly sitting with empty wine glasses, we eventually took matters into our own hands and poured.
Food was quite good, though
Too bad that there is so much construction and noise outside...the patio is beautiful but right now it's much better to be inside.
Easy place to go for brunch, good food and drinks, great presentation.
The staff was very professional and attentative. Great for a place you want to be able to talk.
We have been to Origin many times. this time my eggs benny were a big disappointment - the plate was sliding on the table and i could not cut the potatoes ( too tough ) so did not finish . coffee was perfect as was the service. will not order Eggs Benedict again - very poor.
