Origin North is a restaurant and bar that offers gourmet global food in a high-energy atmosphere. The menu features options for happy hour, dinner and brunch, including a raw bar and a mozzarella bar to enjoy any time at Origin North. Diners can choose from chilled, hot or sweet menu items to pair with their drink.
Try spicy Spanish fries with chorizo and manchego, a trip to the raw bar for oysters on the half shell with yuzu dressing or a chilled dish of honey rosemary figs, house made ricotta and country bread. The menu at Origin North includes burgers, duck, mushroom and more. Dont leave without trying the dulce de leche or a cream soda float.
I made a reservation through the original web site and received confirmation emails etc. The evening We were on our way we were late, we tried to call to let them know however the line was disconnected. We called the Toronto location who informed us that Origins North was CLOSED!! We were so discouraged and I feel his closure has been completely mismanaged in terms of customer service. Even Open Table did not communicate the closure even though I noticed it says Origin North- permanently closed!? Very disappointing experience.
Was I embarrassed...I booked for our anniversary and received confirmation from the restaurant that everything is in order. Got there and the restaurant was closed. Permanently!
Apparently they didn't pay their rent and were evicted.
Lucky me, my wife knows me for 25 years; otherwise, I would been in trouble. In the end we ate at another place.
I don't know how evictions work, but I don't think they come overnight.
At least they could've send a courtesy email that they are out of business or whatever.
The restaurant was shut down. I cannot believe that you would take reservations for a restaurant has a notice on the door saying it was closed because it was owing money. There was a very disappointed young lady who was looking forward to dinner there for a very special occasion. We answered poor for everything cause we never had a chance to try it.
I live in the area and have been meaning to try Origin North for a while now so we finally made it for dinner. It was a little bit quiet but it was a weekday.
Our server was great but the hostess seemed like she just woke up and came in to work without changing or fixing herself up. She looked pretty miserable too and seemed really fake when seating us. It was quite a contrast considering the beautiful vibe of the place (and the prices).
Food was good but their menu online is different; I saw the miso black cod online and was looking forward to it but they didn't have it on the menu in the restaurant. Overall pretty good; with a few tweaks this place could be really great and I could see myself being a regular here. I might try again in a month or 2.
We had a fabulous meal!!Our servers were very attentive! The cocktails were delicious.
Not many choices in the menu. Service is bad even though there is no big crowd in the restaurant. The food is not so great and the portion of the food is small.
Went for dessert, but their lemon meringue dessert had too much lemon and not enough meringue. The chocolate crunch bar was good. Server was moving hastily from table to table, and seemed overwhelmed.
Appetizers were a little different. Main dishes were good. Very good dish presentation.
Nice ambience. The brunch fare was tasty, though nothing special. Waitress seemed new so rather than coming off friendly and attentive, she seemed assertive and in our faces.
Their americano is weak; we went for another round of coffee at starbucks after.
At least the place wasn't packed so it was a nice girls get together / catch up over brunch, and the place served our purposes perfectly.
This restaurant is just trying to be something its not. Prices, exterior and menu suggest upscale and delicious dining, but interior ambiance of large screen tv in bar, apathetic servers and tasteless food suggest otherwise. Should have stopped at the predinner martini that was served in an ice cream dish. Oh well....keep trying.
The food was great as always and came out in a timely manner
While the food was generally quite good, the steak was medium when the order was for rare. Unfortunately, the martini was the worst I've ever experienced; either someone didn't know how to mix the drink, or the vermouth had been replaced by some other unrecognizable, unfermented wine must minus the usual aromatic herbs, roots, or barks typically added for flavour.
The brunch menu had a variety of items. The huervos ranchero was good but cold to warmish. My main complaint about Origin almost every time is the bad service. Our server Luka disappeared and it look a long time for get someone else's attention.
I first went to Origin in its downtown location and was super impressed with the food and how fresh and creative it was. Have been to Origin North a couple of times and each time, have been less and less impressed. On this last visit, the menu has changed completely to the point where I would compare it to chain restaurant, or worse. We brought our friends there in the hopes that we would be introducing them to something different. I had the fish tacos, which is probably the worse I've had. For $17, it was literally just two tacos with some garnish and a skinny piece of fish in each, no sides, nothing. My husband had a chicken sandwich that he didn't even want to finish. Looking at our guests dishes (duck tacos and miso glazed cod), I was truly embarrassed that we had chosen this restaurant to bring them to. Neither dish looked appetizing. Their signature drinks were also mediocre at best. I had ordered a dirty martini and it came as a pale yellow colour with no hint of alcohol taste whatsoever. Tasted like pure olive juice. We skipped on dessert as we were completely done with the meal at that point. Bless the waiter who provided attentive service. The restaurant used to be a happening place but there were only a handful of tables on a Friday night. Sad.
The patio's ambiance was great, our server was attentive and friendly. Appetisers were good, our steak was not the best steak considering the fairly high price. The other dish, Short Rib was pretty good. Drinks were good too.
