We have tried various "high-end" restaurants in Cincinnati, but none compare to the Plam Court at the Netherland. From the elegant environment, personable and knowledgeable wait-staff, to the unparalleled cuisine, one is never disappointed!
Wonderful dining experience. From the moment we arrived we were treated as special guests. The food, service and ambiance was all excellent. The room is one of a kind and sets the stage for a wonderful evening. One of Cincinnati’s very best restaurants.
The service was attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant is beautiful with a feeling of elegance. The food was superb. Overall a very memorable dining experience.
It was our 25th wedding anniversary and we had a lovely time! The hostess, bread server, and our server, Chris, all wished us happy anniversary, as well as as a card from the restaurant! The food was fun and delicious!
We've had lunch buffets (Easter, Mothers' Day, etc. at Orchids. They were all very good. Our first opportunity to dine at Orchids was a real experience. Comparing Orchids to the old Maisonette, Boca and Restaurant L (the three legitimate 5-star restaurants we've been to) is a real challenge. Orchids' service staff was above outstanding. Quiet and efficient, the table was cleaned and readied for the next course. The food was wondrous. The seared foie gras, Spanish mackerel, made us want more. The first plates are intentionally small and left us wanting more. Our Monkfish was superbly prepared and surrounded by great food. The chocolate dessert was a wonder. We can't say enough positive about Orchids/ We can also mention that the price was relatively low. Orchids is an unqualified winner.
Service was excellent! Enjoyed our first and second courses immensely, especially bleu cheese beignets and Spanish mackerel. However, we had the monkfish and ribeye entrees and felt that both were lacking and not impressive. Monkfish was dry and seemed overcooked, bouillabaisse was one note and didn’t hit the mark for us. Ribeye was cooked perfectly and had beautiful presentation, but the flavor was not great, I’ve had much better steaks at chain restaurants.
The Orchids is in a spectacular setting in the historic Netherlands Hotel in downtown Cincinnati. The setting is idea for a relaxing, romantic dinner, or intimate small gathering. Tables are elegant and widely spaced, so very conducive to conversation. No other ambient noise or music. The service is highly attentive and the pacing of the meal was spot on. It was fascinating to watch the choreography of the staff (and the service is clearly choreographed). The staff was friendly, but with a degree of professional aloofness given the more formal dining setting.
The prices are expensive although not out of range for the setting. However, the food itself, while well prepared and presented, did not have the distinctive, memorable taste that would befit the prices. I had the ribeye which was well prepared and tasty, but not distinctive. My wife had the flounder which was disappointing in the portion size, taste and accompaniments. We opted to not have dessert, but the restaurant provided some petit fors which were the highlight of the meal.
Overall, this is a wonderful place to make an impression and to enjoy a leisurely meal, but is very expensive for the quality and quantity of food. We would recommend, but with caveats.
Morgan, Tate and Oscar are wonderful and made our night fabulous.
The food was good, but bland. The short ribs had a musty smell initially. The risotto had good flavor except for the celery root. The blue cheese salad was good. Service was impressive and everything came out hot. The restaurant itself is amazing and the Jazz band was a very nice touch.
Wonderful dinner with a friend in town for a visit. Tate was amazing as our server, food and drinks were great, everyone we encountered went above and beyond, and it was a special time.
Incredible food and service. Can see how they recently received the highest rating.
Chris and his team provided wonderful service!
Absolutely amazing food and service. Staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. I am pescatarian, no meat, and they catered to my diet and gave me a delicious chefs tasting that I will never forget. If you’re thinking about going, just go. You won’t regret it.
Great experience. The food was excellent and complex, but delicious. My wife and I each ordered four courses, which over the period of 2 hours was just the right amount of food. Service was excellent, and although the menu might be considered haute cuisine, our waiter made us feel very comfortable and at ease.
The food, service and ambiance are consistently superb.
Wish the meal had been better. Service and ambiance awesome.
I have consistently had excellent meals here, both at dinner and brunch. This was an exception. Service was lackluster, and the food was inconsistently good. I knew we were in trouble when the bread arrived and was stale. Overall, this experience did not match the price level.
Fantastic food, service, and hospitality in a beautiful environment.
This is our 2nd time coming here for a special occasion and it was fabulous, just like the first time. The food is exquisite and the service and ambiance couldn't be better!
This is a great restaurant for a special occasion or just a very good dinner. The presentation is especially good and the service is excellent. I highly recommend Orchids.
Food was quite good. The bouillabaisse was insultingly modest (filled with potatoes and little seafood [no monkfish as advertised]. For $48, you HAVE to do better!
Service was very spotty. Busing of the table barely occurred. For a five star restaurant?
Seemed like there was no one managing or guiding a VERY young staff. Simply not impressive.
Go to Restaurant L or Jeff Ruby to see how fine dining is done.
Music was fantastic. Ambience? Fantastic.
Good waiter that had little support.
Everything was great!! The food was perfection and service wonderful!!
Food and service were outstandingin every way, but the noise from the nearby bar was a little high for our taste. When dining at a restaurant of the quality and price point, a quieter atmosphere would be appreciated.
This has become an annual tradition for my wife's birthday. Each year we continue to be impressed with the knowledge and attentiveness of the wait staff. The food is always excellent and the ambiance unmatched. Many thanks to Orchids for a memorable night on a special occasion!
This was my second time dining at Orchids at Palm Court. The first time I dined here was last year and it was fantastic. This year was a different story. To start off, it should be noted that this is a relatively expensive restaurant and therefore comes with certain expectations beyond food, service and ambiance being two of them. We were seated by a very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional greeter, Morgan. Our server, Oscar, was also very professional. However, it took 40 minutes from the time we were seated to meet Oscar. He was extremely busy and for a Saturday night Orchids was poorly staffed--labor cuts? In any event, we were looking forward to the actual meal. My wife ordered the blue cheese beignet salad, popcorn grits, and scallops. I ordered the beef cheek perogies, maitake/cappelletti, and lamb. My wife's salad was very overdressed and almost seemed as if there was too much salad dressing on it, then the chefs decided to pour olive oil on it--what a disappointment. The popcorn grits, on the other hand, were flavorful and delicious and I would definitely recommend this unique and tasty dish! And my wife's third course of scallops were cooked perfectly. My order was a different story. First, my perogies had absolutely no flavor whatsoever-no salt, pepper, herb, or sauce-and therefore was unsurprisingly very bland. The maitake and cappelletti were terrific and cooked perfectly, and the sauce was a perfect pairing (you should order this). But sadly, my entrée was lackluster. The lamb was almost rare and had, once again, no flavor. The entrée did come with two bites of lamb sausage and creamy polenta, but the what should have been the star of the plate, the protein, disappointed in flavor and the way it was cooked.
Along with service being painfully slow, the staff always seemed rushed and in a hurry to leave the table. The staff was so hurried that for our second course they gave my wife and me the wrong second course. Loud patrons.
A fantastic all-around dining experience once again. The consistency of excellence with food, service, and ambiance is truly amazing and makes Orchids a must-do for any special occasion, celebration, love of life, or a memorable date with your loved one(s). The beauty of the art-deco hotel, restaurant, and bar in general...along with the spectacular ceiling, walls, lobby, and furnishings... make this a world-class venue and a fine-dining opportunity you do not want to miss.
The food, ambience, details, and service at Orchids made the experience very special.
Beautiful surroundings in an old “art-deco” environment. Good food, not great food a bit disappointing considering the price. Very, very slow service. We were there for 3 1/2 hrs for dinner. It’s nice to make an evening out of a nice dinner but this was just too long.
Everything was handled with great aplomb and the effort to create a very pleasant occasion! Obviously, the staff wanted my wife and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary in exemplary fashion, and succeeded. The only drawback was the telephone call to our residence to confirm our coming. I always try to surprise my wife on such occasions, but she answered the phone.
We hadn’t dined at Orchids for many years and decided to go back this past Friday night. We were greeted promptly and noticed a lively happy hour going on at the bar. We were seated promptly at a nice intimate quiet table for 2. Service was flawless except a slight delay getting cream and sweetener for our coffee and tea. An apology was issued and offer to pay for our hot drinks which was very nice. Our food was delicious and well paced with chef surprises to taste along the way. The drinks were tasty and popcorn grits delicious as were our scallops and short ribs. We shared a chocolate dessert and enjoyed the sweet surprises at the end. All in all a lovely experience. We’ll go back soon!
I literally couldn’t wait to review this restaurant- and I NEVER leave reviews. Unbelievable execution in service. The food was great but the beef cheek pierogi was by far my favorite thing. Tate, Chris and Morgan made the experience that much better as I enjoyed chatting with them. Cant wait to come back!!
Great aesthetic but the menu was disappointing compared to the level of restaurant it is. For Cincinnati it’s towards the top of the pile but if you’re coming from a larger city with more like options this place falls a little short. Service was fantastic but the food needs a bit of a refresh and the pricing isn’t appropriate for what you got (a bit high for the area and quality). Overall would say give it a shot but coming from Chicago with such a rich food scene this place fell flat
The food was heavenly as was the overall experience. The entire staff goes above and beyond to ensure your experience is great. They even called the valet to make sure our car was there waiting for us.
The service and experience at Orchid were outstanding. The food was delicious but comparable to other upscale restaurants in town.
We went for a romantic Christmas dinner, service was lovely and the food was interesting.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Orchids and had the best dining experience ever! The service was wonderful from the valet parking to the wait staff. We felt well treated. Our waiter Chris was perfect, informative, attentive but not intrusive. The ambiance is legendary in its beauty. The jazz music provided was very enjoyable. The food was delicious (we had the scallops as our entree) and beautifully presented.
The whole experience was classic fine dining.
Tate was amazing!!
Outstanding food & service
We have dined here several times before and it has always been a memorable experience.
Not so much this time. Service was outstanding but the food was mediocre for some and uninspired for others. Not one, in our party of five, said their meal was great. I might try it again but with reservations.
We had a wonderful dinner to celebrate the Christmas Season. All of the food was delicious and the service was impeccable
